Was there anyone on these forums who actually thought that was a good contract? lol
That's what I mean, the pressure to have a good team from the Pegula's forces whoever their GM is in any given year to go out and overpay for whoever is available at that moment, instead of actually having any sort of plan for roster moves. Remember the Leino and Ehrhoff contracts when they had just bought the team?

The funny thing was I thought they might actually get good when he bought the team. But as we know, just spending tons of money don't guarantee anything.

And then big $25m deals for Cody Hodgson and Matt Moulson two consecutive summers

Every time I have to read 3 pages about Eichel after the last 2 years of talking about somehow poaching MacKinnon

Here are my hopes and dreams:

  • Lundqvist retires, freeing up his $8.5MM cap hit.
  • That leaves 14 signed players, 8F (Panarin, Kreider, Zbad, Buch, Kakko, Howden, Gauthier and Chytil), 5D (Fox, Lindgren, Staal, Trouba and Smith) and 1G (Shesh) for a total cap hit (including buyout costs) of $58.6MM/$22.9MM cap space.
  • Trade ADA for Lindholm (adds $4.85MM)
  • #22 and Hajek for Dunn. Resign him 6 years at $5MM AAV)
  • Trade Strome for two seconds.
  • Trade Georgiev for a 2nd and a 5th.
  • Sign journeyman back up 2 years $1.5MM AAV that can be exposed in the expansion draft.
  • Resign Lemiuex 2 years $1.5MM AAV.
At this point the Rangers would have 18 signed players (10F, 6D and 2G) with $10MM in cap space.

  • Resign Fast 3 years $3.25MM AAV
  • Rangers draft Laff and he gets rookie max, allot $3MM for salary and bonuses.
  • Sign Trevor Van Riemsdyk 1 year $1.5MM as a stop gap RD until Lundkvist comes over.
  • Resign McKegg 1 year $800K.
That brings us to 22 players (13F, 7D and 2G) with $1.5MM in cap space.

Panarin - Zbad - Buch
Laff - Lindholm- Kakko
Kreider - Chytil - Fast
Lemiuex - Howden - Gauthier
McKegg/Smith

Dunn - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Staal - TVR
Smith

on eichel...he is a tremendous player and I think that if he didn't play in buffalo and happen to be drafted the same year as mcdavid, he would be talked about alot more. so there is no questioning the talent but it really starts to approach video game category. and aside from the likely insane price in a trade you can't ignore the impact to the cap as well...

mika needs a new contract in 2 years and I can't see how you could possibly have 2 $10 mil centers plus panarin on the back end of his deal, plus raises to kakko and laf (if they aren't going to buffalo) and there is no way it can work and you can still field a team.

the scenario were he might make sense though is if you are afraid to give a huge 7-8 year extension to 29 year old zibanejad...you could then trade mika and keep eichel who would be like 26 as the #1 center. but I really don't think you could have both as a 1-2 punch for longer than 2 years.

anyone interested in feeding my delusion that vegas would be interested in trading us glass/krebs, hague and a 1st for ADA? they won't but I'd like to dream

Take Hague out & the basic framework for a deal is there. Vegas is very thin on D prospects, so I can't see him included unless the deal is expanded with a NYR D prospect going back. Also, the Knights would need to shed some salary to fit both ADA & Lehner under the cap.

Just wondering but have you seen Shea Theodore play in the playoffs?

Theo has been phenomenal, but the Knights could really use another option on the PP. ADA would really add a dimension that they're sorely lacking.

You lost me at re-signing McKegg.

How about laf strome and trouba to buffalo for eichel 8oa reinhart and either Montour or Joki. I'd like to get away from the trouba mistake. Maybe add smith to balance the money. Draft Sanderson with #8. Solves a lot of problems at c2 and rw. Provides a placeholder for trouba and gives a long term shut down defenseman prospect. Eichel would thrive playing with panarin.

TROUBA. IS NOT. BEING TRADED.

minor issues in the big picture but just to note...belesky & fogarty are UFAs and nieves, o'regan, lettieri, and ebert are group 6 UFAs....I figure Fogarty will be resigned since he is captain but the others are probably gone. so thats a decent amount of AHL veterans that will need to be replaced in hartford to both provide injury callups and to provide leadership in the AHL.

just something that will need to be addressed this summer...on the lower end of priorities

Delete this cuz.

Common sense takes precedence over a couple posters making baseless claims that they know something isn't happening. Sorry if that's tilting.

I don’t think anyone was proposing stuff they think is happening. It was just a bad proposal or idea from someone.
