I feel like it’s bittersweet. The league did an amazing job here but feels like a lot of damage done and doesn’t seem like we are going to see a game again for a long time. Can’t wait for the draft but when do we see these guys competing again I don’t know. Feels like minimum January and even then it might only be 50 games or so.

Playoffs are where the TV $ is. Had to get it in. I agree it does suck how open ended it is right now. I sure hope we are playing in January. Have to think lack of fans hurts the NHL more than other leagues. I'm sure some owners will be bleeding cash without fans, if there are too many it could be a long shutdown.

I'm not sure how much Eichel will get to pick where he goes, he might have some input, but at the end of the day he's signed for another 6 years and he doesn't have any sort of trade protection for another 2 years, where Nash had a like 3-5 team list he would accept a trade to

I still think he's gonna cost a haul once he is eventually traded, just that very few teams will have both the opportunity or resources to do so.

I said many times already the Rangers are not having 3 guys on their defense that are 5'11 in Lundkvist, Fox and DeAngelo. That being said I would want picks back with Lindholm for TDA. I have to assume that the Rangers know they can get Lundkvist over here from his SHL team. Still would go for Dvorak as my choice to bring here. I have to assume Gorton is still going to try to acquire first and second round picks if he moves guys like TDA, Buchnevich and hopefully Strome who might bring back a second.

By taking on his contract we handcuff ourselves for a decade. 36 mil tied up in Panarin, Trouba, Kreider and Eichel. 45 mil for 2 goalies, 5 Ds and 11 forwards. That is just 2.5m on average. Lets say that we can get 2 goaltenders and a 4th line for 10 mil -- which is very cheap, like 5+2+1+1+1. 35 mil left for 7 top 9 forwards and 5 Ds. That is just 2.5m on average for 12 core players. And more importantly, its 2.5 mil on average for Lafrenier, Kakko,. Zib, Fox, TDA, Chytil, Buch, Howden, Lindgren, Kravy and co.

Its more that players are traded for value that doesn't equate in most fans heads. Fans place a sentimental value on players that far exceed their actual worth. GM's cannot afford to do that.

This is a very good point. The other thing is that EVERY time these situations come up, there is, for the most part, historical reference for what the return is going to look like, no matter how many times fans say, this situation is different. There are always outliers, (usually involving Chiarelli), but, you can pretty much write down the return will likely be a top 6 forward, a top 4 Dman, a quality prospect (not a team's best) and a 1st round pick. There might be filler on both sides, but the core of the deal almost always remains the same. Any trade from the Rangers side is going to involve DeAngelo, (top 4 Dman), Buchnevich, (top 6 forward), and a 1st, (but, not 1OA). The prospect remains up for debate.

I keep wondering how the TV deal would be affected by Covid. For instance, if they do start the new season in January but still do not have fans, does the TV deal get negatively or positively affected? I would think positive because more people are stuck at home to watch. Or do they lose viewership because people are more concerned with Covid than watching a hockey game. And of course the deal I believe will be impacted if there is not a full 82 game schedule.

Teams have to spend to the cap floor every season, just to exist. If the 12 is the problem and not the 2, then Buffalo should just call it a day and move to Quebec.
