Has a team ever had 2 Calder nominees in the same year? The Rangers could legitimately do it.

I’d put more money in the 24 year old than the 18 year old. I already had to talk people down from the “kakko will be a finalist for the Calder not fox” from my last preseason poll.

whats his criteria/cutoff? is it only non-nhl prospects?

I am also curious how he views system vs. drafting.

For example, Colorado has an impressive system/cupboard because they picked up some great young talent with lottery picks. But anything outside of the first round has essentially been non-existent for a while now. It's simply a matter of stockpiling top end prospects enough times.
Its 22 and under in the system.

Rangers had Leetch and Granato nominated in the same year with Leetch winning, more recently Tyler Johnson and Palat for the Lightning were nominated and MacKinnon won. And Kane and Toews with Kane winning

Edit: going through the list, it's more common than I would've thought
List here if you want to go through it yourself NHL Records
Fine. The Rangers'll just go ahead and have to have THREE next year...

Pronman's parameters on The Athletic:
..this year’s version will have full evaluations with tool grades of all players in an organization who are 22 years old or younger as of Sept. 15, 2020, regardless of how many NHL games they’ve played, to go along with the rest of the players in the pipeline./QUOTE]

Top 5 might be a reach, at least before the draft. I would expect teams like Colorado and Ottawa to be high with players like Makar and Tkachuk being "prospects". LA, probably the #1 organization by HF standards, was 13 I believe. Just hinges on the parameters.

The New York Rangers and Jesper Fast are attempting to work out a contract extension, sources tell Blueshirt Banter.
Fast, who is in his home country of Sweden, spoke with both Head Coach David Quinn and General Manager Jeff Gorton as recently as today (Friday). Quinn specifically has gone to management and vehemently vouched for Fast’s return, Blueshirt Banter has learned.
Fast’s strong priority is to remain a Blueshirt but, as a source claimed, “he knows his value.” The 28-year-old is an unrestricted free agent and his camp believes he would earn a contract on the open market that pays him $4 million annually. However, he would be willing to take a discount in order to make things work with the Rangers, requesting compensation that would fall short of that figure but still pay him an average annual salary in the range of $3.2 million.

EXCLUSIVE: Fast, Rangers Mutually Interested in New Contract

He's one of our best players. Get it done. What the hell were we waiting for?

I like Fast

I don’t like Fast at over 3 million

I really don’t like Fast at over 3 million while also paying Ryan Strome 5 million+

Please Hank save us from ourselves

I love Kakko but he isn't on the same level as Laf. I think Laf will lead all rookies in scoring.

I don’t know, I don’t think anyone would even remotely expect Laf to have the kind of WCHs as Kakko did if he got a chance to participate last spring. OTOH, Kakko definitely had ‘one of those tournaments’ were every thing went his way.

I am not expecting more from Laf next season than we got from Kakko. It’s a tough league for kids. I think we are impacted by exposure bias in our expectations on young players. Kids who are super good AND gets everything served on a platter produces. Extremely few of them consistently. If we take away Matthews and McDavid, who has really made a difference early? Laine just bombed away with one-timers. Tkachuk has zero competition for ice time and is de facto great around the net. Teams let down the guard against those teams too. A lot of stats boosting in meaningless games. Then there is a whole bunch of top 5 picks who needs a lot of time to do some damage. Nolan Patrick. Nico Hischier is still far from a big factor. Hughes/Kakko. Dach, Byram and Turcotte. Kotkaniemi. Hayton and Zadina. Sure Svech has scored some, 37 pts his lol rookie year. But also a thankful role.

My point is just, it’s not enough to be really special. Just must be a heck a lot more special than the average top 3 pick to hit the ice and do really well from day 1 in the NHL.

I wouldn’t at all be shocked if Laf had an harder time than Kakko. It’s not what I would bet on, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I think laf does better for a few reasons. I doubt he will be as gassed as kaapo was. Kid was playing non stop for like a year straight and then thrown into the hardest league in the world where the players are bigger and faster and the ice is smaller. It was no coincidence that he looked like a different player for us in the playoffs. The time off did him wonders. He will be a real stud once he develops his core, lifts, runs, trains and gets him man strength. Future is bright for sure. Laf also has the benefit of playing with a deeper and better squad. All of the kids are a year older and got a taste of how the playoffs are, although a sour taste and I hope they remember all offseason. I bet laf and Chytil build pretty significant chemistry. I could be wrong but I just have this feeling that a line of Laf -Chytil-gauthier/fast will feast on teams other 3rd lines. The latter too are both going to be better this season in their own right.
