Virtanen would be an interesting addition. He'd fit in the mold that Gorton seem to like and he plays a heavy game which this team needs more of. What do we think his next contract will look like? 2 x $2.5m?

Vancouver has players who play that heavy style already and if Ferland comes back it probably pushes Virtanen down the line-up.

Would you do Andersson for Virtanen
100%. It's exactly the sort of move the team should be exploring.

Hate to move one of our few center prospects, but you're at a point where he may need a move to recover his value and you want a similar guy back in exchange. If you wait another year or two, you run the risk that he starts to enter Yakupov territory...

I feel like if Lias had anywhere near that value to bring back a roster player, he’d be gone by now

Think the Rangers are adding there

Getting him away from his home town crew might be a good step in the right direction. Then again, bringing him to another party city might negate the benefit. He's also one of those guys who I could see having sneaky value to a GM. Where he nets Benning a late 1st rounder and people are flabbergasted by the return.

Having Kreider, Virtanen, and Gauthier adds a lot of speed, size, and physicality to the wings. Virtanen could fill that Fast gap on the wing with Panarin and Strome that I was hoping Gauthier could step into.
I feel like we still haven't seen enough of Gauthier to say whether he can or can't. Personally I've been mostly impressed in the very limited sample size Quinn has provided (by the same token, there is likely a reason he has limited it in the first place).

That said, I agree with all the rest of this – certainly can't hurt to have more options. It's a good problem to have if they all work out.

I agree that we haven't seen enough. I didn't mean to imply that he couldn't, just that Virtanen would likely block him in the shorter term and that's okay. If in a year you wind up with Kreider, Virtanen, or Gauthier on each of your top-3 lines that's not a bad thing by any stretch. 3 guys with size and speed who can chip in (or potentially chip in) 20 goals.

I thought Buchnevich would be a goner for sure this offseason when Kreider signed his extension.

now with Lafreniere coming I can’t imagine any scenario where we’d keep him. We aren’t going to pay him his next contract that’s for sure. Can’t do it.

I think you are right, I really like Buch its not that, but when you sign a player to a bridge deal in today's league you are basically cutting ties with him unless you are prepared to pay that player UFA money.

And that's possible. The fact that he came back from the break out of shape will be an issue for quite a few teams.

Lol, I googled some, haha, he is first destroyed for showing up out of shape for ordinary camp. Then there is the paus, and he shows up out of shape for camp -- AGAIN -- i.e. twice in the same season.

If Goat can be a meaningful contributor at the NHL level this year (which he kinda needs to since he's now waiver eligible) and you add Virtanen to that, that's a pretty diverse forward group. It doesn't need to be Virtanen but he's definitely a skillset that we've been looking for for that spot.

Guys, Lias is worth jackshit.
You're selling jackshit short

Hf Rangers Forum.....We hate Howden.
Then....Lets trade for Virtanen

Keep whatever asset and cap hit you need to get him and play Gauthier more, problem solved. Not sure why this board is in love with other teams disappointing players. Virtanen was overrated since he was drafted, was a HUGE reach when he was picked and has pretty much lived up to his actual potential. Passsssssssss

Again... unlimited keyboards...

Virtanen's the name this time.

I'd be interested in Virtanan.

But Lias doesn't even come close to getting him. Lias realistically has like 3rd-4th round trade value right now, its pointless for us to move him. We might as well just wait it out and hope for a miracle. But at this point if theres no progression its not a big deal to eat the loss, because we aren't moving him now for anything useful

Because that type of player makes a very good bottom-6 forward.

Why because of the potential price?
I think his ability to be a dumbass outweighs his ability to play hockey and I'm not all that confident that he'll figure it out enough to be anything more than enigmatic at best. I get the upgrade at bottom-6 angle, but I don't believe he'd actually be that

His most common line mates were Gaudette and Roussel. Both were significantly worse with out him.

He would absolutely be an upgrade in a bottom 6 role.

I agree with all of this, with the exception of a situation where we get a similar disgruntled player in a similar situation (Puljujarvi) back as the return so everyone gets a change of scenery.

Plus Pajuniemi and Puljujarvi on the ice together would be hilarious.

I think it'd be more along the lines of an Andersson for Borgstrom type deal.

Lias doesn't bring back Pulju either

Lias is a throw in for a larger deal

That's where we're at with him. Him playing well in the SHL isn't raising his value all that much
