why would he be traded for next to nothing

He had an up and down regular season. And Vancouver may need cap space

Virtanen and Gaudette to NYR for Buchnevich and Andersson??

There’s a few of us that would be interested in a conference call.Right now I would say Lundell is definitely be on the trade-up radar.
They like Holloway and maybe would consider trading up if he's sitting there when Calgary picks, but I'm not sure they'd go as far as they would for Lundell.
Mercer and Jarvis are guys who, in theory, should be on the list of trade-up options, but I don't know that for sure. Both guys are also more high-profile so trading up could be a challenge there.
I also suspect, but need to ask about Guhle being on the list of players they would consider trading up for.
Because why? Better coaching or mature environment?I think a change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered for him. You can't be a whooping boy on your team and expect to succeed. I think, and have thought for the last 2 years or so that Virtanen would be a good acquisition. Question is, what do you pay to get him?
With the Expansion draft coming up, he could be a slot that the Rangers are able to protect. If the price is say, Lemeuix & a component for Virtanen & a component... that's a manageable way to upgrade the team.
He's also the type of player that Boston will end up trading for, and doing very well with.
Staal is going to be like one of those Harry Potter ghosts in Hogwarts; he's never leaving.Staal will still be on the team when we retire Lafreniere's number.

Kreider is by no means smarter than the average power forward. Intelletually, probably. But when he's not aggressive, he doesn't get much done.I definitely wouldn’t mind Kreider rubbing of some on Virtanen if we could get him.
Jake’s hockey sense is very underdeveloped. I remember pointing that out his draft year too, I saw him in some international play and it is quite frankly one of the ‘dumber’ players I’ve seen. But Kreider was also very underdeveloped in terms of hockey sense. But through hard work he has become a really smart player that can play with guys like Ziba.
Virtanen first of all must slim down. He carries way to much weight for the wrong reasons. I also think he is living life a bit too much. But the big missing link is just hockey sense, and it’s something that can improve if you focus on it.
The upside with Virtanen is, the kid is very powerful physically. He can go toe to toe with guys like Wilson and then some. He is strong along the boards and infront of the net.

Is exposing Howden the only solution to protecting both Lemieux + Gauthier?
Pfft you don't understand how to play the protection game. I would explain it all to you but I don't feel like it...Is exposing Howden the only solution to protecting both Lemieux + Gauthier?
If youre protecting Gauthier and Lemieux, and I'm assuming Buchnevich and Chytil were protected first, then Howden, Strome, Fast and Andersson are all exposed. Is exposing Howden the only solution to protecting both Lemieux + Gauthier?
That’s where I keep running into a wall...man I keep forgetting about Gauthier.
No I do but shit gets fuzzy with certain players...Pfft you don't understand how to play the protection game. I would explain it all to you but I don't feel like it...

Im doubtful Anderson and Fast are here by that time. Buch could be gone too but that depends on what they feel about Strome.
