Hmmmmmmmm...speaking of Virtanen and potential availability...

:dunno:

Considering the Nucks are the benefactors of our former prospect turned party-boy turned legit 1st line power-forward in JT Miller, it'd be almost poetic for Virtanen to have the same outcome with the Rangers.

Fits the style of player the Rangers supposedly want to add but he's not really dedicated to the game. Showed up to the play-in camp out of shape. Showed up to training camp out of shape. Hence the comments from Benning. Would be sort of weird though considering the Rangers have Gauthier in the fold who is a very similar player just a couple years behind in his development. How many RH power-forwards who aren't great in their own end does one team really need?

He had a pretty good year......were they expecting him to hit 25-25??

The quote is likely taken out of context. Benning might have been referring to the playoffs. He only had 3 points in 16 games.

Virtanen is an interesting case. Never lived up to his draft potential. He has the speed and size, shot is solid.

I think they're looking more to Gauthier to take that role on this squad.

Don't see them as an ideal trade partner.

I definitely wouldn’t mind Kreider rubbing of some on Virtanen if we could get him.

Jake’s hockey sense is very underdeveloped. I remember pointing that out his draft year too, I saw him in some international play and it is quite frankly one of the ‘dumber’ players I’ve seen. But Kreider was also very underdeveloped in terms of hockey sense. But through hard work he has become a really smart player that can play with guys like Ziba.

Virtanen first of all must slim down. He carries way to much weight for the wrong reasons. I also think he is living life a bit too much. But the big missing link is just hockey sense, and it’s something that can improve if you focus on it.

The upside with Virtanen is, the kid is very powerful physically. He can go toe to toe with guys like Wilson and then some. He is strong along the boards and infront of the net.

How has Edler been holding up as he’s gotten older? Could be a perfect stopgap LD for next season had for cheap (if he was willing to waive).

I honestly don’t know the answer to my question, so don’t fillet me if it’s a bad idea.

I think a change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered for him. You can't be a whooping boy on your team and expect to succeed. I think, and have thought for the last 2 years or so that Virtanen would be a good acquisition. Question is, what do you pay to get him?

With the Expansion draft coming up, he could be a slot that the Rangers are able to protect. If the price is say, Lemeuix & a component for Virtanen & a component... that's a manageable way to upgrade the team.

He's also the type of player that Boston will end up trading for, and doing very well with.

Brandon Prust scored 40 goals in his career.

Anderson eclipsed that total in his last 2 full seasons. Shoulder injuries are not ideal, but they're hardly a death sentence.

I suggested Buch, but Strome for Anderson is a lay up.

Shoulder injuries are a death sentence to power forwards yes.

Shoulder injuries are a death sentence to power forwards yes.

Shoulders are tricky because injuries there can become chronic, but it's far from a sure thing.

Medicine has come a long way and he'll have almost a full year of rest/rehab between surgery and when things start up again. Most chronic shoulder issues happen because players jump in too quickly post injury. I don't love that he took so long to get it taken care of, but at least he will have had ample time to heal properly.

I'll put it this way, if he were healthy, there is 0 chance his name would even be floated in rumors. Players like him are very rare across the league and in terms of risk/reward, he's worth gambling on, especially if the price to pay is sending someone like Strome the other way (it wouldn't be, but even someone like Buchnevich is a price im more than willing to pay.)

I could get behind Virtanen. I still think a guy like Roussel with 2 years left if traded for next to nothing (say Brandon Crawley) would be a nice depth option who’s contract expires at the perfect time. Also a guy who they can expose in the ED.

By that logic they are making him available because he isn't healthy. Pass
