You deal with it when it presents itself, you don't overload a spot on the roster only to find out you don't need those guys. I like Trouba but had we waited a year we probably wouldn't have taken him on and maybe used that space for something else since we have fox deangelo and lindqvist and had Keane.

You just proved my point with your example. Trouba was brought in while the Rangers had a hypothetical (not proven) depth at RD. Keane brought Gauthier. Lundkvist is still at least a year away. ADA situation will resolve itself. So while I don’t advocate for a very expensive option at LD, a single quality long term option to be brought in from the outside would definitely not be out of question or a bad business.

P.S. No one within organization is unhappy that Trouba is here and signed for 6 more years.

I like Fast as much as anyone, and would be happy to bring him back. But whether his cap hit is 3 mil, 4 mil, or something in between, we can't afford it without clearing space elsewhere. If Fast is re-signed, it means one of Strome/DeAngelo isn't, unless by some miracle Hank decides to retire.

YUP , Smith is the easiest to move. I’m asking if teams will take him w Andersson

Say Ottawa for a 3rd and the Gaborik contract to bury

This (Colorado’s goaltending situation) does annoy me a bit lol (since we got a goalie to sell).

Why? Think about it — any GM and coach get a total pass for who they put in the net lol. If you ice a team that can’t score or can’t play defense — it will to a large extent go on the coach/GM. Especially if it’s a team that is supposed to go deep. But if a team put all resources into their skaters and is default between the pipes — nothing ever gets sticked on the coach/GM.

That is a team that — from my POV — were idiotic not taking care of their glaring hole between the pipes.
They’re gm probably didn’t want to pay anyone’s price. He’s another Yzerman . Plenty of free agent goalies available so maybe he pays up this time.

I hate to be a broken record about Georgiev but I hope people temper their expectations for a trade return.

UFA: Holtby, Crawford, Markstrom, Lenher, Greiss, Howard, Khudobin, Smith, Talbot

Rumored available: Korpisalo/Merzlikins, Murray, Anderson, obviously Lundqvist and Georgiev

Maybe Quick, Kuemper, Fleury.

Maybe Carolina and Colorado upgrade, but one of their goalies will go the other way or add to the market. Vegas can't re-up Lenher and keep Fleury.

The contenders aren't gambling on Georgiev to start with this kind of market. Colorado is linked the Murray and they have cap space. Carolina isn't going to trust their window to an unproven starter after trying that 2 years in a row. Vancouver has a tight cap but 2 possible replacements in house if Markstrom walks. Columbus has a crazy goalie pool so they probably fill within.

Where do these UFAs land for big bucks? Or will we see 1 and 2 year deals for modest salary until the flat cap is lifted? Holtby won't go to Buffalo.

The UFA list isn't exhaustive, just people that would be viewed to start based on conservative thinking and recent performance. Elliot, Dell, Kinkaid and Miller are proven back ups, probably getting dirt cheap contracts.

Where is the steal, hell even a fair value deal, for Georgiev? The contenders will go proven and the bottom feeders are saving money/assets. They may like AG but they can shop for the right price.

Would Colorado be interested in Buch for some more depth?

It would be nice, but he's going to be paid like a legitimate top 6 player soon and I don't know if we can afford that long term.

He has felt so close to breaking out as a guy you need to keep though. One of these years it feels like he'll get over the hump and be a 70+ point player.

The challenge with bringing back Fast is, ideally one of the younger guys (Kakko, Kravtsov, etc) should replace him in the top 6 and force him to the third line (where is is truly best suited). If that happens, will the Rangers being paying him as a top 6 forward or athird line winger?

Even if Fast plays on a bottom 6 line, he’s still the top forward PKer and slots up when the team has a lead and needs to lock down. He’s still going 14+ min a night.

Simple solution: Don't sign useless old guys.

Staal and Girardi were self inflicted injuries. Its was clear both were in decline (especially the former) when they were extended.

Exactly let the kids grow...dont sign anyone....thanks for proving my point

But with guys due for raises, how much can the Rangers really afford to invest in him?
