Another reason getting Lafreniere is going to be great. He's a guy that'll really step on the gas when things aren't going 100% his way

He certainly helps the mindset portion of it, if not a lot of the on ice things that we also need to improve on.

We need more of it beyond him. Its partially why I would keep Fast over Strome and also why I want Buchnevich moved out for someone who may not be as skilled, but is skilled enough and has the useful grit that MH was talking about. I'm excited at the thought of what a 2nd year, physically stronger Kakko can do to help here as well.

No more of this PDG, McKegg, Haley crap. Those guys either suck or are AAAA players/13th forwards (I don't think PDG is THAT bad, but I don't want him as a regular.)

Howden during his last year in Juniors legit looked like a player.

He was probably thrusted into the NHL a bit too soon, though he held his own at the start before gassing out/getting hurt. Took a massive step backwards last year which is worrisome as his rookie campaign wasn't great either.

Theres a glimmer of hope because the tools are there to carve out a useful player and I don't think he's as dumb as he's played so far either. If he can commit to getting stronger, going to the paint more frequently and learning how to play the boards, the complaints will end. Still don't think that makes him any more than a borderline 3rd line player, but thats a million times better than what he currently is now.
I thought Howden was doing way better than expected his rookie year up until he got that leg injury. He rushed back and was lost. This season he was up and down but that’s to be expected. I think we’ll learn a lot about him seeing how he comes out of the gate next season.

I thought he looked strong to start the season and then finished strong post leg injury. The bulk of the season in the middle is where I remember him being really lost.

I know he's putting in the off ice work, I hope to hell that he's going to focus more on the on ice stuff during the time off.

Another thing with Howden is that he’s quite tall and a bit skinny. He’s still changing physically. Which has got to be an adjustment. I really think he deserves time and patience.
I did talk crap about Howden but he isn't that bad as most make it seem. i mean would you want Tanner Glass or Mike Rupp skating on the 4th line

Would be nice if could be a strong 4th liner for us. We really don't need him to be more than that honestly.

Yep, if Howden could turn into a Dom Moore or Blair Betts that would be awesome.

Lemiuex, Howden, Trouba, ADA, Gauthier, Lindgren???

Led the league in penalties. Led the league in misconducts. Top 5 in hits.

You think we don't have it because it doesn't lead to tangible success. You just illustrated my point.

I didn't see

Mika, Kreider, Buchnevich.

Don't really expect it from Panarin. And Both Kaako and Cytil are still finding themselves

I think they respond well.

But I don't feel that they initiate often enough.

Not knocking the skill they do have, but i think they can engage earlier and more often.

Cruising the NYP archives from our last coaching search. I wonder if they circle back on former defensemen like Brad Shaw and Scott Sandelin for an assistant/defensive coach to Quinn.

interestingly enough brad shaw worked for JD in both st louis and columbus...

sandelin has no nhl experience so I don't think he'd be a good fit with Quinn who is still learning himself.

You withdraw when signaled you aren't going to get the job on your terms/move on to second round. It's a win/win "you can't break up w/ me, I broke up with you" professional face saving.

Yup, like expected direction / approach to the future does not agree with your views, likely as it came out during the interview.

maybe others should try harder...I don't get how this is a punch line. quinn was given the option of 2 players. 1 player was shitty, can't skate and had a terrible attitude. the other was a shitty player that at least tried and people act surprise that howden played.
Coach likes young player who works his ass off. Fans are dumbfounded. Story at 11.

The organization and the coaching staff like Howden and see potential in him. They're trying to help him get better. It's really that simple.

Yup, Howden is a prospect who only has been in the league two years directly out of juniors and that’s somehow gets lost. Even if he’s not going to be more than a 4th liner, I can’t see why he can’t become a GOOD 4th liner.

I don't think we're at a point yet where a trade like that makes sense. Maybe if we moved ADA in a separate deal, because otherwise we don't have a protection slot for him.

If they get a LD my assumption is TDA for a C w expansion looming

Brandon Prust is the type of guy I’d be looking for. He was super effective at his role and a good overall player. On top of that he was tough as nails

He was an identity defining player for a couple of organizations. Body gave out, but that's the type of dude I'd want to bring on as an assistant dude. Someone that the players will respect because he did laid it all out there in the NHL using his own body.

Also think that there is no way Shaw leaves CLB unless he ends up as a head coach, and he might just be happy. Guy has an incredible track record. JD knows him since he worked for JD before.

I would hire Troy Mann as an NHL Associate Head Coach. Lots of players thrive under him... and not just top picks. Here's who he's coached in the last 6 years in the AHL, if you look at his recent Sens teams... there are a bunch of point per game under 22 year olds in the AHL. Some of the guys he's graduated have had a bit of success as well with other organizations.

Recent Cup winners and finalists:
  • Grubauer
  • Orlov
  • Copley
  • Schmidt (Finals with Vegas)
  • Vrana
  • Stephenson
  • Wilson
  • Siegenthaler
  • Zach Sandford (Cup with Stl)
This past year with the baby Sens. 22 and under:
  • Brown (AHL PPG)
  • Brannstrom (AHL PPG)
  • Bratherson (AHL PPG)
  • Formenton (AHL PPG)
  • Balcers (AHL PPG)
  • Norris (Won AHL Scoring title as a 20 year old rookie)

How is this guy working for Eugene Melnyk?

SO Kravtsov in the khl then back in NY mid year leaves the door open for a Fast return IMO. Need to make space by moving Smith

Gauthier is gritty ? You mean Kreiderlike Gritty ? Personally I don't call that being gritty . Howden ? He must do a lot of it when the camera is off of him . As for the rest...they do meet the qualifications of being gritty and if Kreider and Gauthier can bring that for consistently ....we will be OK . If it is only every 3rd 0r 4th game.....we will struggle .

After tonight, we could have a pretty good idea of where we'll be with Carolina's pick. I'm thinking Dallas and NYI continue, we pick 22.

Yes, Howden. Absolutely Howden. It's not my cup of tea, but there's no other reason he would play. Quinn likes him because he tries hard. He's basically said this ("good intentions").
