Is Ekholm for the Carolinas 1st and aHajek/Andersson type be fair value ?

That's definitely someone I'd target together with Danault. I don't think the players we all want, are available. We can talk for days about Eichel, Cirelli, Barkov, Heiskanen, Dahlin and Sergachev but at the end of the day you're far more likely to acquire a player like Ekholm/Danault

Larry has been calling the ePanthers the Puddy Tats for years. No one ever noticed.

I rarely read his stuff. And now I don't see his tweets after he blocked me for pointing out something wrong in an article the one time I did read haha

Withdrawn after the interview. Interesting what’s that about?

That position is a waste of time.

Drury made north of $40 million, has his Colony Grill expansion and is in good standing with Rangers who are in close proximity to his Greenwich home. Not to mention his kids aren’t even in High School yet.

“Wait, you signed Bobrovsky for how long? Oh damn...yeah, I’ll stick with pizza.” - Chris Drury

I don't think we're at a point yet where a trade like that makes sense. Maybe if we moved ADA in a separate deal, because otherwise we don't have a protection slot for him.

That is besides the point - if it wasn’t - Drury would’ve said no before the interview. He doesn’t need to give an impression that he went for an interview not in good faith (i.e. not wanting a position even if it was offered).

We aren't ready for a cup run so let the old guys leave and then fill in. Also i wouldn't throw Hajek under the bus yet, up until camp last year Lindgren was basically considered an AHL player but he put the work in and looks decent now, Hajek is the same age as Lindgren and is not near a finisher product.
Making his way to bustdom, though I agree. If he hasn't progressed after 40, expose him, easily. Re-sign Smith for that, too... they need to keep getting all they can out a player.

The position probably came with strings attached. We already have our coach and coaching staff and you have to keep Shawn Thornton, Brian McCabe and Roberto Luongo in the front office. That could turn off a lot of candidates who want to bring in their own people.

I wonder what Drury’s deal is. Withdrawing from consideration is weird to me. Unless he just really enjoys working for us. But there’s only so many GM jobs to go around

He does this with the Canes as well calling them the Candy Canes

It’s so lame
Feels like Drury's in a good enough spot where he can stick around and wait for a perfect opportunity. GMs aren't recycled to the degree coaches are so if he jumps at a situation that isn't exactly ideal and doesn't do well, that might be the end of his GM dream right there. And working for a hot and cold owner who wants to add big tickets one year then cut payroll the next is like a lot for a GM who's been around, let alone a new one. For now he can go interview places and get acclimated to that sort of process.

Yeah, i agree - like i posted, that position is a waste of time.

that org is a mess along with its location. Waste of time.

Likely that the Panthers told Drury they are going in a different direction and invited him to withdraw, as a professional courtesy.

You withdraw when signaled you aren't going to get the job on your terms/move on to second round. It's a win/win "you can't break up w/ me, I broke up with you" professional face saving.

I know some people are on the "quality over quantity" train but that only applies to the top of the draft for me. If you can get into the top-10, that's great. But in the lower end of the 1st, and the early 2nd, I rather have 2 picks

Was thinking the same thing.

Like sure, sometimes you think you can get a player that really sticks out in the 20s, then it’s one thing. But given how much it takes for these kids to pan out, how patient you must be, how they must get a proper environment to develop in, stay healthy and what not — along with our scouting departments ability to find ability later in the draft — I don’t mind two picks in the second than one late 1st. I definitely think we can find quality on Robertson’s level with those picks.

When we're talking about quality over quantity in the draft, sometimes the best shot at quality is to have a higher quantity of shots at it.

I agree once you get to round three and beyond, but the first fifty picks or so are really well scouted.

its still a crap shoot and a LOT of 1st and 2nd round picks that were well scouted don't pan out for a variety of reasons...it becomes more of a crap shoot later in the draft but the whole draft is.

It’s either this or Drury wasn’t happy with what was coming from the other side of the table. When you’re in Drury’s position and you go for another interview, you’re evaluating them as much as they’re evaluating you.
