What do you think the odds of each of the following are? How many would need to happen for us to be a contender next year?
  • Igor Shesterkin is a top 8 goaltender in the NHL ---- 60%
  • Adam Fox becomes a 21+ minute per game 1D ------- 40%
  • One of our LD prospects steps in and plays the season at a competent, second pairing level --- 20%
  • Filip Chytil becomes a 45+ point C who penalty kills ---- 90% (he better)
  • Kaapo Kakko has a 55+ point sophomore season -------- 80% (he better, let's say 45+)
  • Alexis Lafreniere has a Calder quality rookie season ----- 50%

We would need all of those things to happen, if we want to contend. Any then some maybe.

He has been putting up points ever since he came to the Rangers. Granted, last year was far different but we know why. But, there is a basis to believe that his scoring would not drop to 30 points.

You know, even if we split the baby here and say that he is a 20 goal, mid fourtyish points player who can play BOTH center and wing, that still makes him a good commodity at that price point. And if Chytil over the next several years shows that he is ready to take Strome's spot, fantastic. Slide him up and put Strome back at center on the third line. Or even wing. And in case of emergency, break glass and he can slide back up to play center or wing. There is value in that.

Totally agree with you regarding the positional versatility. That coupled with the fact that he's more or less a known quantity, fits in with the room, and provides a buffer for someone like Chytil makes me think he has a lot more value to the team than most give him credit for.

Not only that, but who better to have in a room who knows what it is like to struggle as a young player and what it takes to turn it around?

All that makes me reiterate that he is probably worth more to the team than what the return profile in a possible trade looks like

Based on the reactions, it seems that most people believe that Pittsburgh overpaid. There's always the chance that someone overpays for Strome, but I'm not counting on it. Kapanen is also 2 years younger, under a relatively cheap contract for 2 more years, and will be an RFA when it expires. All of that adds to his value.

And 22OA - not a small "bonus" to complement Strome's value.

All of them.

  • One of our LD prospects steps in and plays the season at a competent, second pairing level - 5%
  • Filip Chytil becomes a 45+ point C who penalty kills - 35%
  • Kaapo Kakko has a 55+ point sophomore season - 25%
  • Alexis Lafreniere has a Calder quality rookie season - 75%

Just gives management time to see if Chytil will progress or what the trade market is for such player. No need to rush. You have something that clearly works.
Yea and also I think if Lafrenière starts on the 3rd line which he absolutely should regardless of how his camp goes, then Chytil will have a serious winger to play with as he develops more as a center.

Hopefully we can sort out who will be an appropriate RW on that line.
Preferably a veteran like Fast but we dont know what the deal is with him
Maybe Gautier would be good. Idk if he plays both sides or just LW

So, this basically ends the “operation pirate” stuff, no?

Speculating on these things can be so meaningless lol, but it did make me think about how it most certainly sounds like his family is planning to stay in NYC. Right? Starting school is a big thing. A progressive young Swede male won't without second thought plan to put his kids in school somewhere and then yank them with him where ever his career takes him. I mean, its not strange. He has lived in NYC for 15 years. So what can his option be? I can't imagine that returning to Sweden is still on the table. That shouldn't have been hard to arrange and if that was what he wanted, that is what they would have planned for.

Going to play anywhere else in the NHL? Nah, I don't see it. Like who knows. This to me makes it seem like either a buy-out is coming or a trade of Geo. In case of a buy-out, I would expect retirement. Going into the front-office after that?

I'm going to put on my tin foil hat here and speculate that management has asked LB to continually insinuate that Henrik has "likely played his last game as a Ranger" to try to convince him to retire.

Because there's been zero evidence from Hank that this is the plan, and NYR lose that that when Georgiev is eventually dealt.

That or to affect Georgiev’s perceived trade value.

i don’t understand why the Rangers don’t opt to stop dressing him. Hank couldn’t take the hint of riding the bench while the other two rotated both starting and dressing in street clothes around him.

that was done because if they aren't playing the other 2 guys benefit more from watching the game from the press box with allaire than sitting at the end of the bench.
