Ultimately I'd like to keep ADA but not sure about the price tag.

If he is traded, who takes over his minutes?

On powerplay, Fox/Trouba split. Even strength, a free agent defenseman not currently on the roster. I promise you the world will not end

No, the world certainly won't end but ultimately will end up a worse team.

Who replaces his minutes in FA?
UFA RHD this offseason:
Barrie
Schultz
Vatanen
Ceci
Tanev
Hamonic
Braun
Gudas
Pysyk
Kevan Miller
T Van Riemsdyk
Polak
Shattenkirk
Michael Stone
Jan Rutta
Bogosian
Tim Heed
Dylan Demelo
Engelland
Luke Scheen
Y Weber
then a handful of tweeners

In this hypothetical, without ADA's PP time you're looking for a stop-gap 3rd pairing defenseman to eat up between 15-17 mins a night for a year or two until hopefully Nils is ready. Browse - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Kevan Miller, Braun, Demelo, Polak, Bogosian, Rutta, etc?

of course it's not as aesthetically pleasing as an offensive defenseman like DeAngelo, but if he's gone it would presumably mean Gorton found a 2C or legitimate top 4 LD

Who out of that list is going to improve this team moving fwd?

I really feel like the Rangers are going to end up making a trade with either the Flames/Oilers this (likely brief) offseason. Our available assets match up with those teams the closest.

I feel like you're not accounting for the player who DeAngelo is traded for improving the team in this scenario if you're worried about finding an upgrade for our 3rd pairing defenseman

I just think it's going to be very hard to get equal value unless it's in the form of prospects.

We need players that are NHL ready now until our prospects are ready to go.

Either that or it will be for a different position (2C) entirely and his position will be completely abandoned lol

Been out of pocket for a few days. Any substantive rumors in the mill or are we still speculating which winger should be tried at center?

:confused:I think you're going to be disappointed if you're looking to trade DeAngelo for an NHL-ready 3rd pairing RHD...

I don't think his position would essentially be abandoned, Fox's offense isn't much worse than DeAngelo's and Fox is a better defensive player on top of that, so I think he'd be good on the first powerplay, or if you want the powerplay to run through any of our forwards who would be capable of doing that you can just stick Trouba on the point and let him be a guy that just shoots and shoots and shoots. The potential upshot with his replacement would be getting another player that can actually play defense because there aren't that many on this team as it is, be it forward or defenseman

I'd personally wait until after the expansion draft to go trade hunting to fill the holes on the team and I'd give DeAngelo and Strome (yuck) 2 year deals and only do a trade that's bigger than moving depth pieces around that falls into our laps if it just makes too much sense not to

We aren’t going to find a good UFA dman that would save us much money compared to signing RFA DeAngelo, let alone adding the contract of this bonafide 2C as well
Well the good news is that they wouldn't need to be anything other than a depth defenseman and you wouldn't need to pay Strome

See..I feel that players aren't being utilized to their strengths.

I need to see Panarin on the LS half board and also Zib on the LS half board.
That's where they make their bread and butter.
That's 9/10's of 2 PP units on this team.

Trouba blasting cannons all day long on either unit.

Wtf is DQ doing?

You would if the hypothetical C has a hypothetical contract for 4.875M over the next 4 years. Hypothetically speaking of course

I mean, the Rangers powerplay was the 7th best in the NHL this year and Zibanejad scored 15 power play goals this year

It could be soooooo much better through with very simple tweaks

And what did it do in the playoff round?

You must've missed the full week of me ranting and raving about how Panarin, Zibanejad, and Kreider didn't bother to show up to the bubble

I mean, what really is the likely number of acquisitions the Rangers are going to make this off-season? I would be pretty surprised if the number is more than 4... It's definitely not going to be 8.

I think there's going to be more caution than we usually see from teams.
How upset were teams getting about the TDL when the season was potentially cancelled? Next year is really up in the air. Who is really going to be stepping up to acquire Gaudreau for example? He has two years left. One of them may be cancelled. And then you have a flat cap to try and convince him to sign his UFA deal. Not ideal. Plus expansion...

I think the teams like Tampa will make necessary moves to be compliant. The low cap teams may make some financial decisions. But everyone else will probably be somewhat conservative. I can see guys on the last year of their deal being moved around. Bold moves will be very difficult.

I think we add a reliable LD. Probably add a wing that fits the style management wants to cultivate. Maybe one more move for the 4th line, typical McKegg/Glass depth addition.
