Your roster is going to be build around wingers, Lafreniere, Kakko, Panarin.
There won’t be enough cap to spend high end money to C just like that especially if you want to have a good defense.

Danault seems pretty ideal right now for Rangers, 27y match up C who would be playing with talent he has never been able to.
For sure one of the scariest top2 lines in the league.

That off season would be moronic. So basically trade most of our farm system for guys we can't fit under the cap and will lose one in the expansion draft. Good thinking.

All of that makes sense, especially those 2 retiring. What a help that would be. Could see Hank retiring, but not Staal.

thats what the + is for. It's magical and mysterious. It can be their 1st rounder in this instance but the 1st rounder didn't matter much in my fantasy lineup

I like Buch but I think in the long run it's more of a question of salary cap management. He's a good player but he doesnt' bring other things to the team the way someone like Kreider does and therefor isn't likely to get a longer term big contract the same way. You don't need to trade him right now but he might be on the move before they give him another contract.

And that is something that I honestly expect. I have maintained that all three of Strome, DeAngelo and Buchnevich are not long for the team. One will be gone short term, one in the medium term and one will be here long term.

My only issue is the belief that players like that will be moved for nothing more than picks and prospects at this point of the rebuild.

I could see some team overpaying him for his “intangibles” on a 3 or 4 year deal. I don’t want to be that team. If I’m wrong maybe he has to settle for a 1 or 2 year deal thanks to the stagnant cap. In that case I wouldn’t mind keeping him around. This team def needs diversification though whether that’s a loss of him, and/or a trade of Buchnevich is yet to be seen. I don’t want to overreact to a 3 game sample size, but that Carolina series did show some glaring holes. This team is built better for regular season hockey than deep playoff hockey. This stew is missing a couple important ingredients. Hopefully Laf is one of them!

I do not disagree with the initial sentiment, but cannot judge anything based on 3 games in the most insane of time.s I do however think that Gorton and JD will assess what happened and act in a measured way. We already know what type of team they are trying to build. Nothing that I have seen changes my opinion.

Depends on what management is looking to do next season. The goal of being in the playoffs might say it needs to be a better player currently, but if they are looking at being in the top 8 of the east as more of a bonus on top of the development of their players, he's got a great shot to play there.

If Brendan Smith can get the ES minutes with Trouba and management was okay with it enough to move Skjei, I'd think Reunanen or Miller lining up next to Trouba in December/January would not shock me at all.

The whole Staal and Smith on their last years of their deals is killer for this team. Staal has never not played when healthy. I think last season was the first time. Hopefully management is on board with him being scratched since there appears to be actual options to play in his spot with Reunanen, Miller, and potentially Robertson being close to NHL ready.

No way more than one of those happen. If you have to add to "build around" other prospects in the deal, eventually you have no more assets to trade and you prospect pool/draft picks are bare.

I do not think that an untried would be rookie can be the plan to play with the guy that has the heaviest usage on the team.

I am beginning to think that the plan may be a stop gap.
