I mean Rutherford must be assuming someone is going to give up a similar deal for Jarry/Murray right?

Like I don't get why he would agree to this unless they've had a massive hard-on for Kapanen since they drafted him... But still

Good for the leafs to get #15 overall but you’d think the Pens would want to start to reloaded their pool at this point. Seems like a lot of shuffling the deck chair on the titanic. Who is Toronto clearing space for, Pietrangelo?

I think it’s a great trade for the leafs. The penguins on the other hand just continue to make awful decisions

So who needs a goalie for the future?

LA, OTT, DET, BUF, MIN (?), NSH (?!), CAR, EDM, TOR.

Top 5 - will pick skaters

Top 10 - most likely will pick skaters, except BUF. Maybe they take a chance.

#11 NSH - will have a buffet to pick from and already have solid G. They had a bad year at G but still. (?)

#12 FLA - They have Knight.

#13 CAR - these sneeky f***s bruh ... THEY WILL PICK ASKAROV !!!!

#14 EDM *sobbing* *reaching for phone* "Ok, Grotans, we do the deal." Georgiev + something minor-ish for 14.

#15 TOR picks Dman.

The league is gonna be cap strapped for a couple years, a lot of that value comes from that contract. Thats a kid they could conceivably plug in the top 6 and be a +50 point player for $3 million a year. Idk if Strome will carry that value because hes probably gonna wanna be paid, but right now Buchnevich's value could be at a peak with another year at $3.25 million

it's a lot more likely Toronto packages the 1st for immediate D help on the same kind of contract Kapanen had (3/9.6). Tavares isn't getting younger. Muzzin just signed for a billion years. etc.

Why did the Pens need to go after another speedy small winger when they just traded for Zucker?
Because their top guys are aging and unmovable so the other route you can go is depth. All-in for 2-3 years and then a fullscale blow up is a lot better than quarter assing a rebuild on the fly with Sidney Crosby.

In theory I understand the move, but still it's just bad.

The Pens are looking to win in the next two years. They have their top 9 basically locked up for the next 2 years minimum, and after that Malkin and Letang are free agents

Guess we'll see if it works
