Idk if he is allowed to be posted directly but IncarceratedBob said this morning the Rangers aren’t directly in on Kadri but are monitoring the situation as things progress

So take it for what you will, sounds like Drury to me 🤷🏻‍♂️
The problem with Kadri is he is 31 years old and he wants a longterm deal. This has bad decision written all over it.

I don’t understand how the Rangers can sign a UFA C to a multi-year deal. The math just doesn’t work this year or next.

Copp is the most realistic option of players in that category, and we can’t even make him fit.

Edge, before people chased him away, mentioned that, if asked, both would be willing to be dealt to a place of their choice. So, the Rangers would have limited options, but something could be worked out. The NMC is really about having control for the players.
Thin skin if true....maybe the regime change dried up his leads?

neither Strome is as bad as people claim they are. They’re somewhat one dimensional in that their defensive games are lacking but if they were to be used as mainly wingers/backup center in the case of an injury, I think they’d be useful. I’m not 100% against Dylan. But not as a full time center

Here’s a wild idea that I think could work down the road. Why not Laf as the 2C? Has he played center at all? He has the IQ, vision, and tenacity to be a center. I mean he can’t be any worse at faceoffs than Chytil. It would also finally keep him in the top 6 and increase his minutes rather than forever being stuck behind Panarin and Kreider.

He sucked even playing his off wing.

There is zero chance that a team giving Ryan Strome significant minutes in important situations can win a Cup. If they resign him, or go after his brother, any aspirations of winning it all in this “first window” here go completely down the toilet.

We do not need anymore offensively oriented players. We have a top ten C and a 50 goal scorer on the first line. We have the league’s highest paid, and of course defensively questionable, winger on another line. We have three top ten pick wingers beating down the door for more ice time, and a recent first round pick that just scored 50 goals in 66 games in the O.

The pieces needed to score goals are in place. Those players need to be complemented with players that do the shit that scorers don’t like to do. The opposite of Ryan Strome. They cannot afford more offense, and they simply do not need it.

Two way players that make life difficult for the opposing team. That’s it. Do not over complicate this.

I’ll preface this by saying this isn’t my preference or proposal but something I’ve become increasingly convinced is likely.

The team obviously is going to treat this current core and window as a legit opportunity to win a Cup and build off last year’s run.

Malkin and the Penguins seem to be at an impasse and Malkin has essentially said he’d like to play for MTL or NYR. MTL is not going to be a contender any time soon. NY is viewed as a contender currently. Drury will definitely kick those tires.

And Malkin, although health being an issue, is still a point per game player. Having a chip on his shoulder and playing with Panarin in NYC may reinvigorate both. That said, I’m still not keen on the idea.

However, we have a big reluctance to move any of our high ceiling kids right now and most don’t want to. The asset cost for a Miller, Scheifele, PLD, etc. would be significant. Malkin would only cost a contract so the question becomes very simple - what will Malkin accept to take a shot on a team that is viewed as a contender. Would he take less term if he’s leaving Pittsburgh to make sure he’s happy where he goes rather seeking 4 years like he reportedly wanted from Pittsburgh? Would he take a modest deal to play for a contender with another Russian?

I still think there would be a lot of risk involved, more regarding whether he can stay healthy than his actual skill decline. If he could come in on a 2 year deal it would allow Chytil more runway to keep developing and kick the can on a true center decision down the road for us. I think Malkin, if healthy and motivated CAN be a good 2C for us, but I think it’s unlikely he’d stay healthy and then we’d need to back fill with Chytil/Goodrow, etc.

As I said, I’m not proposing or supporting this, but based on the team’s desire to add a 2C, Malkin’s perceived pedigree and the opportunity to not lose any assets, I can see Drury trying to swing this. This post is more me preparing for Malkin’s ugly ass to be a Ranger than advocacy if for it.

Panarin - Malkin - Kravtsov ? All hall of famers, right Ed?

I always like when management is prevented from doing something I don’t like, and in this case I think that applies.

Besides KAM breaking out a bit earlier perhaps than expected — we were in this exact boat after Ziba, Shesty and Fox signed. Right? Still, there were substantial talks and reports about how we were after Jake Eichel. There is just no way that could have been true, how could we fit anothwr 10m contract under the cap?

I don’t know what Drury is considering, but I can guarantee that those rumors where 100% false because it wouldn’t have been doable if you looked 12 months ahead.

It’s the same now. We.Just.Cannot.Shed.Any.Salary. RB reported on how someone said that Drury was fed up with all NMCs. Trading Kakko/Laf doesn’t clear any salary. Chytil is marginal. Fox and Shesty is off the table.

Lindgren? If we are contending, Lindgren’s 3m cannot be “upgraded”. Drury cannot put himself in a spot where we lose KAM if we want to contend. KAM is a top 5 MVP on this team and could be top 3 in near time.

(a) Drury does not have any cap space.
(b) Drury cannot clear any cap space.

Like, we need to turn every stone just to be able to afford to keep the kids here on cheap bridge contracts. Besides that, we might have about 5m to play around with, but that is far from a given. On a 1 year deal, it’s perhaps max 7m. This includes buying out guys like Goodrow, Nemeth, and so forth. There is no cushion.

Dylan Strome is better than Ryan at everything he’s good at and worse at everything Ryan is bad at

Thinking about it, this is spot on lol.

Laf has like never played center, Kravtsov played center most of his life and then went back to center as the 1C of the Russian WJC team. I know I think very highly of Krav but even if I thought Laf was the better player, I think Krav is more of a center stylistically than Laf is. Krav loves going to the middle of the ice, which our team is allergic to. Krav is the much better skater
