If Krav doesn't have at least a hat trick in our first pre-season game will it be a letdown?
It will not as long as he gets a minimal smattering of votes for being one of the top 3 players in a meaningless preseason game and has good mentions in the GDT threads. This is the proper method by which to evaluate success.

What about regular season? First team all nhl or let down?

He doesn't, so I wouldn't bother too much. UnSerious. I'm no AV fan, but to think he's behind Torts and Renney? It's a sick dream. It's revisionist history.

Torts couldn't get what he did out of the 14 and 15 teams. Torts never puts together Zuccarello-Brassard-Pouliot. He never wanted to play Zucc to begin with. Pouliot would have been on waivers.

Torts chased Gaborik out of NYC. Some good that did cause he's as big of a reason that 13-14 team lost in the Final to LA.

All the coaches got carries by Hank in the end. AV was able to harness the rest of the roster enough to get them as close to over the hump as they've been since 94.
absolutely. I'm not big fan of AV either, but you have to give him some credit. If you were around here at the time AV was hired, alot of people felt the Rangers DIDNT have the talent to play AVs system. They came out of the gate awful that first season with AV, and then became a juggernaut. But as we see saw, AV was just as stubborn in his own way and he wouldn't make adjustments.

Torts just jams round pegs in square holes with teams. He has his truth. You either buy into it or you don't. He is a backwards thinking individual with a very small tool box.

Goodrow traded? Based.

AV was a fantastic coach in year one. Really did almost everything perfect. It was impressive. IDK wtf happened to him after that though.

I’m not advocating it but come on Kane is still a top 20 player . At the deadline you take him for a cup push . He’s also great w Panarin

Shouldn’t cost a ton as a rental
Yes. If they do acquire a star on an expiring deal, I would hope they do it at the trade deadline. Do something like this to fill a hole, not as a building block or focal point of the season.

Also, when Hornqvist is bought out, he should be someone Drury pursues hard. He’s a good compliment to this bottom-6 and he’s a PIA
Yep. Another reason to take it slowly. Cap issues will lead to a bunch of good players getting squeezed out. Should be good players available for reasonable cap hits if Drury can stay patient.

We are in the same situation we were with Hank now that Igor has emerged. Every year, get in and we can win. Simple as that.

Great, so no need to overpay aging veterans then. We can get in with the vets we have, keep adding more kids.

You really think this team will tank like Montreal? What a loser perspective.

No but if we did have a down year that ended with us getting the #1 overall pick next draft it’s probably the best thing that could happen to us frankly. Even for older vets like Kreider and Panarin. Adding a stud 18 year old center …. Instant contender.

The other fan bases would absolutely riot. Remember we'd have to drop to at worst 10th in the seedings.
You cant jump more than 10 spots to get 1oa.
But holy shit would every other franchise be furious. We'd be in cap hell in a few years, but bedard as our 2c would be insane.

One of the best looking farms out there IMO belongs to Columbus. Cole Sillinger and Kent Johnson will pay dividend for them for almost a decade and a half.
That's not even mentioning the draft they just had, or some of the other pieces in place. Their future looks real bright

If we want to go for a value C option, why not call up Minnesota about Freddy Gaudreau? He was great between Boldy and Fiala last year, and it opens up a spot for Marco Rossi. Underrated 5v5 scorer there and PIT the last two years and is super cheap for one more season. Not sure what they’d want, but I think he’d be a good option here.

He’s also good on faceoffs since everyone is obsessed with them now.

That’s just ridiculous thinking
