Makes him easier to moveWhy did they sign Gauthier?

They got bored. Why did they sign Gauthier?
It's like when Staple or someone mentioned last season that several guys over the past few years have asked out from Hartford, and the usual crew trotted out the "Hartford is a f***ing cesspool and no one wants to play there" line. Totally ignoring the fact that in the minors, where guys have very limited windows to NHL careers, they ask for trades all the damn time, in every organization (also ignoring that we've never had any problem signing guys to play in Hartford, including those who know exactly what it is).I don't think they do. We're just more aware of the ones here. Ask a Kings fan if they heard about Julien Gauthier asking for a trade.
I see fat people at both, but one group, with all due respect, is trying to make it better, while the other is eagerly embracing making it worse.but do you see more fit people at McDonald's than fat people at the gym?
If the Rangers don’t sign or trade for a legitimate 2C, I would consider Nemeth for Monahan and a 2nd. Nobody is taking Monahan’s $6.4M cap hit for free.
I agree with you, what I just don't think the PLD is the guy to do that for. He's going to cost you a lot, he's got character issues which people here are trying to gloss over, and you're going to have to give him a giant contract to keep him here. We literally don't even know if he's just going to leave regardless in 2 years because he wants to go to Montreal. What if he only agrees decided to your deal that walks in the UFA status? What then? You traded this stuff and you're going to get a guy who might be a malcontent for 2 years until he can leave and go where you really wants to go is at UFA? Gorts got us two impact players that wanted to be here without going crazy, he's patient and calculated. He's going to oversee the same sort of thing in Montreal if PLD eventually wants to go there. I just don't want to be taking on a headache that two other teams have had to dump off in the process trading our main pieces that we have left to fill the 2C situation.

He was always overrated and injury prone. Not really washed up but injuries got to him.Makes 2 of us.

His 1st 5 years he was good and then injuries caught up.He used to be pretty good but he’s finished
I would have said nothing. But apparently since they re-signed him, they're optimistic? What could Gauthier even return in a trade? Maybe a late round pick?
Surprised they didn't just relinquish his rights and have him free to sign with someone else honestly.
A 12 pack of chicken tenders if we throw in a 6th.What could Gauthier even return in a trade? Maybe a late round pick?

If we want to win instead of compete we need some large improvement at center and wing in the top 6. After playing TB and seeing Colorado we should see that. Never mind that Pitt and Carolina also dominated us at times. We can rearrange the deck chairs all we want on the bottom 6 but the guys playing 17-20 minutes need improvement.I still maintain we don’t need such a 2C upgrade. Either get a speedy defensive guy who isn’t allergic to scoring or play Chytil there and get a matchup 3C. We don’t need a super expensive center with Panarin on that line.
Yeah but the cap exists so imo we need to get that improvement from the growth of young players we already have and then some smart and cheap guys who mesh well with the big guns we already have. Laf, Kakko and Chytil should get better. Panarin needs someone who doesn’t indulge and encourage the constant perimeter pond hockey. That guy doesn’t need to be a huge name high price playerIf we want to win instead of compete we need some large improvement at center and wing in the top 6.
