What an idiot. He is awful.

Replace wrestling with hockey for Staple:

So Staple says Gauthier requests a trade but is resigned. He could have just not accepted the QO and gone UFA.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but you can’t refuse a QO as an RFA and just be a UFA. NYR still hold his rights regardless if he signs it or not

Now acquiring teams know his number. Makes it easier to move the bum

There is definitely a center or two buried on someone's depth chart. Centers would rather not be on the wing, but will do it to play higher up the lineup.

One of those LA centers are going to be available. Just a matter of which one and what they want. Vilardi or Anderson-Dolan.
@RangerBoy suggested Bourque from Dallas. May be a case of right team, wrong player. They seem to be loaded up the middle. Curious who they may be willing to move. Certainly could be Bourque. Definite chance for a value for value trade here.

Forgot to post these snippets from Staple's article:

Says we have spoken to the Flames about Monahan and that Drury is "prepared to lose" Chytil for an upgrade at center. So it seems that if we do make a trade Fil is going to be the centerpiece of it.

Because I don't think he's really an elite player and the only thing that will get NJ out of the basement is to get an elite player.

I could see him coming in somewhere in between the 28 he usually gets and about 40 ish. I don't expect him to break 40.

But the thing is his importance is dwindling while Lafreniere's is ascending and Panarin's is staying the same.

This would be classic sell-high on a 31 year old player whose value to us is going to drop precipitously very soon, most likely. Except we can't move him.
He's scored 40+ goals 2 times, was on pace for over 50 once and has been around a PPG or more 3 of the last 4 years. He's not an elite player?

Monahan would be a massive roll of the dice.

Surgery on both his hips the last 2 seasons. Wrist injury as well.

He’ll be UFA after next season, but man, that’s a wild risk.

If McDonagh at 33, with 4 years left on his deal, with all of the miles on his body, and a full NTC can get traded (including him…waiving?? his clause)…gonna need to rethink the idea that all of the NYR clause players are immovable.
Fair point. I think most players if they are asked are willing to work with their teams. It's just a matter of finding the right fit and whether or not their current teams want to trade them. I don't think there's any impetus for the Rangers to do so right now, next offseason that could very well change. Especially if Lafreniere breaks out or if Schneider shows he can handle 2nd pairing minutes next season.

The sheer panic we are experiencing with our center depth at ??? Without Strome and Copp

Monahan? Might as well keep Copp/Strome
Well no, that doesn’t make the Copp/Strome contracts any smarter or more palatable.

The advantage would be that Monahan would be here for 1 year. But I think there’s too much injury risk for him to be the guy.

it's not even a worthwhile risk IMO, he's not a good player even if he's healthy.
Eh I mean is that true? From 2014-2019 he was quite productive. Then he started to fall apart

Product of Gaudreau. I guess maybe he could find that magic again if you put him with Panarin.

But he's a slug and terrible defensively even when he was producing. Not the direction the Rangers should go.

I wouldn’t move Fil for Monahan+. They basically produced the same amount of points, in the same amount of games this season.

Only a complete f***ing idiot would entertain this trade.

Why do so many of our players request trades compared to the league
Meh. None of the good players request trades out of here. Only the ones that suck ass.

If this organization would have the guts I would try and extend Fil now for 1-2 years. Slot him in 2C next season next to Panarin. Give him pp time. Could see him putting up 50+ points. Get a new 3C. Someone like Roy.
