Don’t know but I hope you’re wrong. The wishful thinker in me sees many NHL teams that are not happy with their goaltending and their G.M.s that are under pressure not to fail this coming season.

The Rangers are bargaining from a position of weakness on a bunch of fronts - they can’t afford him, he doesn’t want to be here, etc…

He supposedly passed on a 3 year deal keeping him in Pittsburgh. Why would he sign he for less term? Not that we can even afford him. Plus, he’s not what we want or need at 2C.

He looked like ass in the playoffs. He’s always injured. And he’ll be 36 to start the season.

Malkin is anything but enticing.

I guess the idea of him is better than the reality. I also think for some of these veteran UFAs, the dollar amount they want in free agency is not going to be there from the contenders. I remember reading that Penguins management is not exactly banging down the door to get Malkin & Letang back, which makes sense because they havent won a round since their back to back Cups

Staple reported Edmonton is interested in acquiring Georgiev's rights but they want to send the Rangers a mid-size contract in return and the Rangers don't want that.

Edmonton has a few mid-size contracts. Kassian. 2 years. $3.2M AAV. No. Foegele. 2 years. $2.75M. No. Ryan. 1 year. $1.25M. No. Ceci. 3 years. $3.25M AAV. No.

Ryan McLeod would work.
Derek Ryan would be great, but I doubt that's who they have in mind with a mid-size contract.

UFA's want term. That's just the way it is. There is no reason to think that Kreider at this point can't continue to produce. He is the best net front presence in the game on the PP and with the leagues crackdown on cross checking he will likely continue to produce.

Yes, I understand all that.

I wish I could move him for a center though and I can't because he's got an NMC and his contract's very reasonable but still high AAV is preventing us from otherwise addressing center and also extending Laf, Kakko and Miller to long term deals.

Keep dreaming on a Kreider trade, he is likely ending his career here (probably on LTIR).

We've gone back and forth on this, but they are very obviously not committing to the youth like you want them to. At least 2 of Kakko/Kravtsov/Chytil are most likely gone by next summer even without a long term commitment at 2C.

Fireable offense.

Careful everyone, it's Boob McKenzie season again.

How are the Rangers fitting Kadri? Unless they pull a shock move and trade Kreider for futures with no salary coming in, there's no cap space. Classic leak by the agent of the player to say the Rangers are interested to drum up his cost.

If Copp isn't brought back, I agree with going the two year route. Big Center UFA class in 2024. Matthews. Aho. Stamkos. Etc. Cap goes up that summer and one of those players is a Ranger. Outside of Panarin and Lafreniere the Rangers will be cheap on the wings still with Othmann, Cuylle, and Berard on ELC's. Kreider or Trouba will be gone next summer or sooner. Invest up the middle.

The problem is the guy doing the firing is an idiot who is now overseeing a Cup drought nearing 30 years, but hey, let's keep doing what doesn't work.

Dolan already fired the guys last summer who put us in this position. The team is going to prioritize extending K'Andre, Laf, Igor and maybe Kakko if he actually does something one of these years.

Good, now add Kravtsov and Chytil to that list.

kadri soon to be 32 years old and gonna wanna cash in. If we ever get a sweetheart team friendly deal great but unless that is the case want no part of 6x6.5 plus for Kadri

This lineup and depth chart is one that should be a perennial competitor for the Eastern Conference.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kaako
Panarin-Copp-Lafreniere
_______-Chytil-Kravtsov
Motte-Goodrow-Blais
Hunt

Miller-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Lindgren-Schneider
______

This line up fits under the cap and the team can either go out and sign a 4C (Larsson) or try to find another winger for that 3rd line spot (Zucker would be my choice). This doesn't need to get overly complicated to improve moving forward and worst case scenario, the team has to bridge Lafreniere or Miller 9either player may actually PREFER this anyways) in order to continue contending for The Cup.

Everyone see this news about Flyers goalie prospect Fedotov being detained and potentially forced to enroll in the military? He was planning to come to the NHL this summer.

If I’m not mistaken, Panarin said he was back to Russia for the summer. Not sure on Igor or Kravtsov’s current status.

Definitely a little worried…

No worries. It’s not documented very well but Panarin worked for 3 years as a baker in the mess hall (bread obviously). That’s why he started his NHL career late.

Kravtsov demanded front line minutes, but Russia wouldn’t budge so he got relieved of duty and traded to Traktor at a young age. He was also too valuable as a model to risk bodily harm.

Igor saved his entire platoon during his first year as a full time soldier and was honorably discharged so he could start his hockey career doing literally the same thing.

We’re all good.

It's a decent gamble for a team like Washington because they only have another 2-3 years of contention anyways. Beyond that, who cares, they will be rebuilding.

For them I can see it for us a long term deal to a mid 30’s player will not be so good.
