How did we get so much cap space?
How did we get so much cap space?
We had a lot of potential performance bonuses that we had to leave space for, but most of them won't be earned.
Only hope is if the Sabres keep Ullmark and he steals two of those gamesBoston plays Buffalo a lot. They are locking up that 4th spot make no mistake about it.

The Sabres have played much better of late, and Boston hasn't been so hot. I wouldn't assume that Boston is just going to roll over them.
Boston has also added and will probably add more. We are staying put.
I like Smith he is overpaid but one of the few players willing to stick up for teammates.. Rangers need more of this mentality.I'm totally fine with this team playing meaningful, somewhat 'playoff' games down the stretch even if they miss the playoffs. The Rangers deadline additions are going to be the development of guys like Kaako, Kravtsov, Chytil and Laf.
I'm fine keeping Smith (I'd even extend him if he was open to it). Rooney and Blackwell to me are keepers. Rooney has finally been able to make the Rangers 4th line viable again and he plays the ideal style for this teams 4th line C. Both guys have another year on their deals.
He’s a solid goalie and a huge upgrade on smith and Koskinen.Edmonton would be mental not to be in on that.
Buchnevich has been the Rangers best forward this season. Zibanejad and Kreider have been inconsistent. Panarin disappeared for 3 weeks when those allegations surfaced. Buchnevich plays in all situations. He is a very good teammate. The Rangers can't afford him. The cap will be a flat $81.5M for a while.
The Rangers gave Kreider $6.5M last year thinking the cap would go up with the new NHL TV deal. Covid-19 ruined everything.
Even if the Rangers had the ability to pay Buchnevich long-term money, would it be a wise decision?
The Rangers have so many mouths to feed. Panarin will get his minutes. Kreider will get his minutes. Lafrenière and Kakko are ready for bigger roles. Kravtsov isn't far behind them. He still has to go through the process a little bit more. There are not enough minutes for everyone.
Buchnevich has become everything and more for the Rangers. He is a group II with arbitration rights this summer. One year away from group III. We know what that means.
