Again, if he gets moved it’s not a matter of desire so much as a potential matter of economics based on previous decisions.

I have no problem with a desire to keep Buch. There’s a damn good argument to be made for that tactic. But we need to stop presenting this topic as if it’s because the Rangers and fans want more picks and prospects.

That’s not what is prompting the conversation.

Thanks Gorton for your Kreider decision.

We need top9 2 way centers, while being less finesse and perimeter style players.

Barkov
Cirielli
Larkin
Krebs
Holloway
Lundell
____________

Obviously if someone like Kravtsov can make the transition to center, it changes a lot of things. Maybe Barron as a bottom6 center. A lot of things can change in a season.

JG emptied the deck already. He kept Kreider which was dumb but all of the guys who were pending UFAs and moveable are gone.

our pending UFA’s now would return mid to late round picks. I’d still move them, but it seems pretty clear that there won’t be a whole lot of anything that will happen tomorrow. Major moves will happen in the summer.

I mean, I'm glad that Kreider was the one who was kept, because at least he has some unique qualities as far as net front presence and speed, as opposed to Hayes and Zuccarello who got similar type deals.

But yeah if Buchnevich has to be moved because of Kreider that's an unfortunate break.

Thanks Gorton for your Kreider decision.

And unfortunately these are the ramifications of some of those deals. Many of which haven’t exactly been unpopular with fans either.

At some point the amount of players we “can’t afford to lose” at any given time impacts the next wave of guys we feel the same way about.

That’s going to lead to more tough conversations in the coming years with names that are not 29 and heading toward UFA status.

I say that because it’s coming sooner than some realize and it’s going to involve names that this fan base is sad to potentially see go.

There are also many people on here very high on Beniers. I don’t know how many years away he is. But who knows maybe they trade for the pick to draft him

Trading Blackwell, who's pacing like 27 goals for less than a million for a whopping mid round pick seems epically stupid.

Sometimes you should just keep your found money.

I think the reason to move Blackwell is to open up a spot in the lineup. Kravstov showing he can play real minutes, Kakko has been great on both the Panarin line and Kid line. Barron is Hartford's highest scoring forward and could use a taste of the show. No reason to have Blackwell blocking a spot in the lineup when he doesn't have a future here, give him a shot at the cup with a contender.

If you can get a late 2nd for the guy you should move him. I'd probably even happily accept a 3rd.

Completely agree with this assessment edge. I also think the people expecting to see Zibby locked up long term here are going to be in for a surprise. I think we see 2 major trades in the next 18 months and we are going to move some players and prospects that many think are destined to wear the jersey.

Thanks Gorton for your Kreider decision.
Kreider is fine. He's not being paid to be 'the guy'. He's 2nd wave. At the time Buch was just as inconsistent and we didn't win the Lottery. I also rather have Kreider in the playoffs

I do not know what's going on with our vets. They've been bad/flat/non-respnosnive/going through the motions.

I mean once Boston gets Hall do they stop pretending they are going to make the playoffs this year and get real; start accelerating some of this?

Unless we 3peat in the lottery.. I dont see it happening.

Gorton might not make a big move until the lottery takes place anyway. Get Steven McDonalds badge ready...

I think any major moves for the Rangers, if pursued, will be summer time topics.

Right now I expect them to maybe see if they can flip Smith, maybe PDG, and maybe ADA.

Howden is a maybe. But having Blackwell, Rooney and Howden means that at least two of them will still be the Rangers post-expansion draft, so that might be a facto.

I love Beniers and think he would be a great fit for the Rangers as well.

But if I was going to nitpick, I would say that there is some validity to questions as to whether you’re looking at a top six forward, or a guy who is valuable middle six forward.

So from a fan perspective, I would just caution about that. Because I think it’s still a bit of an unknown. (Putting aside any thoughts about trading for the pick, or winning the pick, etc.)

When was the last time Kreider used his speed effectively though? His speed doesn't disappear from game to game, he just doesn't use it well. It's a big reason he's so ineffective for long periods of time. Sure, he beats out icings here and there, but thats about it. He's not beating guys on the rush and driving to the net. He doesn't forecheck well with it. His speed is already a non-factor most of the time.

He's a great net front presence, but if pucks don't bounce his way for extended periods, this is what we end up with.

No one out west even offered close to that? basically a mid to late second for hall?

rangers really should sell.

Sell what? Sellers sell their expiring contracts at the TDL. Rarely see players with term moved as main pieces. Smith is expiring. PDG is expiring. Rooney and Blackwell and even Kinkaid have another year. Buch is RFA, not UFA. There’s nothing to sell. Rangers moves would be hockey moves, not rentals and if they happen, they’ll happen at the draft or over summer.
