I think the path to bigger roles for the kids are as follows...

1) Buchnevich traded, either for futures or in a package for a star center. Kakko steps up and takes his role, including potentially some PK time.

2) Kreider stays on PP1, but his role is reduced to a third line forward at even strength. Lafreniere steps up and plays with either Zibanejad or aforementioned star center, if that is the direction they go.

3) One of Kakko/Laf takes Strome's place on the right half wall on the power play.

Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Kravtsov
Kreider-Chytil-Gauthier
Barron-Rooney-Blackwell

At the end of the game down a goal, you have Panarin, Zibanejad, Kakko, Lafreniere, Kreider and Fox on the ice.

Absolutely how it should go. Hope this is what the org ultimately executes. Rest of this year gets a pass, but if this isn’t happening next season and Colin Blackwell (w all due respect) is still getting prime minutes and PP2 time, we’ve got a big problem.

If the Rangers walked away with a 2nd (Blackwell), 4th (Smith) and 6th (PDG) I'd be very happy.

Would give them 12 picks in the draft this season (1st, 2nd, two 3rds, four 4ths, 5th, two 6ths and 7th)
We have enough picks. We need to start trimming this roster and bring in some young talent already in the league to fill out positions we are lacking in such as center. There is plenty of talent in our pipeline. The only problem is it is not balanced by position of need.

Kravtsov does not need anymore time in the KHL. He is ready to play in the NHL. We have plenty of room for him on this team.

As others have mentioned, Kreider needs to go into a 3rd line role at ES eventually as Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravtsov become more dangerous players.

They could do the same with Buchnevich, but his value as an asset this summer to get that top center they need could be too enticing. It may be hard to actually get one this offseason. Depends on if they look to revisit a potential Monahan deal. Eichel will be available too, but his cost will be extraordinary.
It's funny you bring up Monahan.

Reading the tea leaves and bringing together all of the nuggets of information @Edge has dropped on here in the last several months, the Rangers and Flames have definitely been talking.

Teams like Calgary and Nashville may look to make some changes this summer and retool on the fly rather than just hit the reset button and blow it up and rebuild like the Rangers did. I think Monahan would be very much available in the right deal. He and Gaudreau are the one's dealt if the Flames go for a culture change/retool on the fly. As much as I would personally rather go after Lindholm, I'm afraid he'd be the guy they choose to keep over the long haul along with Tkachuk.

Buchnevich is a player I can see them be interested in. I'd ask them about Mangiapane too. Pain in the ass player with some pop for the bottom six that's difficult to play against. I'd offer Buchnevich, Gauthier (if not dealt this deadline), and Georgiev for Monahan and Mangiapane.

Strome dealt to the highest bidder.. Zibanejad takes a small hometown discount and extends.

Lafreniere-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Monahan-Kravtsov
Kreider-Chytil-Strome trade?
Mangiapane-Howden/Rooney/UFA-Barron

Not sure if this is better or worse than what we have now, but it's definitely a team with a bit more depth and more clearly defined roles.

Looking at Monahan's stats the last two years it looks like we're giving up the much better player, why?

You get the picks to keep the pipeline flowing as the team becomes competitive and for trade chips to upgrade down the road. Rangers are going to need those cheap ELC 3-4 years down the road.

Rangers aren't making the playoffs this season can't hurt to add some more picks for this coming draft.

Savard 75% retained = 1st
Foligno 75% retained = 1st

Any chance we could pry Lundell out of FLA for Bush retained? If they believe he can help them get into the playoffs.

Seems like it's a seller's market. Buch and Strome could net a huge haul each.

Foligno has 16 points in 42 games and netted a first and two fourths

Strome has 37 points in 40 games, and he's signed to a reasonable deal next year. He's not even a rental. Buchnevich has 35 points in 39 games. If guys like Foligno and Savard can net what they get, the Rangers should get a first, a top prospect and possibly more for Strome and/or Buchnevich.

Could be all of three months if the right offer comes along.

Given how “anxious” by nature NHL GMs tend to be, which one is more likely (also keeping in mind that Buchnevich is currently much better than BOTH Ks and cap difficulties won’t start until at least after two more seasons)?

I told u guys earlier this draft is absolutely garbage. No one is afraid to give up late firsts right now.

the top guys in the draft barely project as middle six middle pair dmen. The goalie is the best kid in the whole thing.
