Imagine we traded the Laf first for pageau lmfaoRangers are playing the right teams but at the wrong time. Six games left against Devils and Sabres but after the deadline. Rangers basically would need to win those games out to have a chance. Doing nothing at deadline is dumb. If they think they can make the playoffs they need to buy. I thought they should have went for Pageau last year, but I don’t think they are as well positioned. Would still be sellers but expansion draft is going to throw a wrench in
Captain Hindsight.Imagine we traded the Laf first for pageau lmfao
thank god we didn’t do that
It would have been stupid either wayCaptain Hindsight.
yes it worked out for the Rangers, but only because they won the lottery; which is not something that anyone thought was on the table at the time.
Not really. Pageau would have been a very good roster fit here. Would have solved the center issue at a good price. Does good a lot of the things the Rangers are bad at, especially last season. Why would it have been a bad move? Certainly is working out for the IslandersIt would have been stupid either way

There’s room on our left side in the near future. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if he was part of a package for a center in the near future either. You grab a prospect of his caliber in the 4th round and it’s found money - perhaps instead of Ludkqvist going it’s Jones. Who knows? Good problem to have. It's early, but at what point do we put the potential of Jones leaving UFA on the radar? Committing to his junior year, potential log jam on defense. Basically the Fox in Calgary situation (minus the rumors of team near his home).
One year beyond his commitment and he can pick his spot and maybe dictate his situation. Again, its too early but if you have a bunch of prospects and maybe look to trade for center help do you hedge on Jones?
Not necessarily, but they are certainly a better team. Pageau is a very good playoff performer who at 5m a year solves a lot of the team’s center issues. Was it a Cup move? No. Did it have to be? Also No.Do you actually think the team last year was a jg pageau say from a contending?
Why is Pageau going to age terribly? I think he probably ages pretty well. Obviously no way to know how this turns out but really short sighted to be dismissive of it. Don’t exactly regret it not happening (especially because of Lafreniere) but it would have made the team better. I like moves that make the team better. Still have nothing at center.Pageau is going to age so terribly and would have been a horriawful move for the Rangers.
I get why the isles made that move and the subsequent contract that came along with it (Lou is a dinosaur and wants to win before he retires, he gives no f***s about their cap situation 2-3 years from now)
Giving up what would have been a top 10 selection in a strong draft (with out the lottery win) for Pageau would have been peak stupidity when you consider where this team is at.
Habs place Mete on waivers. Pending RFA currently making $735k.
Small, 23 in June, and out of favor,
after being next big thing his first couple NHL seasons along side w\Weber

So get an asset that isn’t a rental if they are trying to make the playoffs. I don’t think they should try to make the playoffs thoughBuying at the deadline only makes sense if it's an asset that is here after the off-season as well. Acquiring rentals in the hopes we make up a 5-9-point gap in the final 20-ish games is how you take 2 steps backwards in a rebuild.

I think theres some sort of roster flexibility afforded to the team that acquired a player after they cleared.why would they of needed to get him through waivers he’s dirt cheap

Someone should tell that to David Quinn then. They shouldn't. Acquiring a long-term piece has nothing to do with that. If you can trade someone and acquire a guy who contributes for the next 5 years, you do it.
This team is not a play off team, never was. This season was never about making the play offs. It was about development. About preparing the team to make the play offs next season.
