I'd take shot with Nolan Patrick if the Flyers were reasonable. Run 4 2nd lines till they drop.

I think it's Gauthier, could be wrong but I see Blackwell protected and Seattle takes the upside of Gauthier over Rooney.

Strome, Rooney and Blackwell are the only forwards we have who meet the games played required, and are under contract for next season. Assuming we protect Strome, if we protect Blackwell also, then we have to re-sign one of Howden, Gauthier or DiGi prior to the expansion draft. They meet the games played requirement, but not the contract requirement.

This is true, but if the decision is made to protect Blackwell, then I don't think it will be difficult to extend PDG for another year at around the same salary. He's good enough as a 13th forward and he would probably just be happy to have an NHL contract for next year. If that is the case, then Gauthier is almost certainly Seattle's pick.

The Canucks did a lot of damage to their rebuild by trying to buy what the Islanders have and giving all those big contracts to bottom six grinders. I didn't want the Chris Kreider contract, but they had no idea they'd be getting Laf and in a couple years he should be one of the league's top third line players: a big, fast, experienced guy who scores goals and probably gets leaned on for the PK more than he does now.
Vancouver is a poor example. Who are the comps to Scott Laughton? Certainly not Roussel, Eriksson, or even Sutter. Because those are really the external contracts they added. Sutter is movable but they havent had a reason to move him. You can say the other two were mistakes but again they are apples and oranges. Laughton is only 26 years old.

Acting as if adding Laughton at $3-$4 million AAV over the next 3-4 years will hamper the Rangers in any way is wild.

If the top 9F are as good as we all hope the 4th line would play like 5-7 minutes even, and then some on special teams.

That would require some of the top 9 to penalty kill, something I think would be a good idea for Kreider to do more of, if they keep Buch they have him. Not a huge fan of Zbad, Strome doing it often, which is where Rooney types come into play.

All the same the 4th line and bottom pair can not take up much cap space if they want to keep their top 9, top 4D, 1G even if there are some different players then right now.

If they had a center prospect who projects as good top 6 who was going to sign a 3 year entry level soon then maybe or if no movement clauses did not exist.

Yet as is, Zbad is getting like 9M, Fox long term like 8M unless he is bridged. A Shesty comparable contract, Demko just got 5M. There is not a lot of cap savings going on beyond Kakko, Laff, Krav, Miller, Lindgren all being bridged. And Bridges end, usual two to three years after they are signed.

Buch, Strome ... heck, anybody not one of our most talented young players maybe.

I can't believe I'm reading Kakko and Lundkvist proposals too.

Yeah, but you got to get rid of some of the talent to get some in return. We have a bounty of riches at D in terms of development and prospects.

The Rangers need to turn some of those guys into centers.

Busch and Strome aren't gonna get it done.

Nice to see trades going down this early. I bet there will be a legitimate after-market bargain bin hunting period late sunday early monday. Maybe move a Hajek or a Smith then.

So I'm looking at potential young C's. Players that at least realistic to be gotten, not like the untouchables of other teams.

Kupari (LA)
Bowers (COL)
Krebs (VGK) ?
help me out here, who else is out there?

Most intriguingly to me, but probably stone-handitis, Logan Brown from Ottawa!

What would a deal for him look like? 3rd + a body (Hendriksson) ?
