Our forward pipeline is very barren after Barron and Berard :naughty:

We got several forwards that could be decent 3rd/4th liners

And you have to keep cap space in mind, we can't afford to lose good players to UFA, selling high on some players is the way to go especially the likes of Strome.

Yes we wont have a ton of prospects, but we can add more this draft. And we dont have a need for top 6 players so those u can also add through FA.

sorry i would rather see the team compete than be scared what our cap problem may be in the future. If your players play well u can always trade them later. Thats what tampa is doing and it is working well.

Just cant gove dumb kreider contracts to buch or strome. Keep them at 4 years.

this way in 2-3 years when we “might” have a cap problem u can trade them still.

add to the fact that we are overflowing on d prospects that u can probably trade one for a forward prospect quite easily if we needed

Yes, the Rangers need to decide or figure out which of the 2 seasons we can expect going forward and why a decision should be made this offseason. It's going to be a huge commitment and will play a massive factor in this organizations success going forward.

If they resign him and he doesn't get back up to his play of last season and for the last ~month it's going to hurt.
He may not get back to his level of play of last year as it could have been a career year. But it also does not mean that his level of play is what it was for the first 20 games when clearly he was suffering the after effects of COVID.

we can't because the madmen will draft either a Dman or a Goalie in the 1st and we don't have a 2nd rounder and in the 3rd they will likely draft a Dman or a Goalie.

From what I have read on their board, most Flyers fans seem to believe Laughton is a LW more so than a center in terms of what he is good at.
And yet he is still a better center than Rooney, Howden, Chytil, and arguably Strome as far as playing the center position goes.

I like the idea of Laughton

our last 4 drafts we took a forward with our top pick.

but dont let this get in the way of your annoying narrative

last 3 drafts we took 7 Dmen and a goalie in the first 3 rounds. You can't count Kakka and Laf because taking a Dman or a goalie in those spots would have been a huge reach.

and we took 6 forwards as well.
And if u go back one more draft we took forwards with the top 2 picks.

But whatever keeps u miserable

It shouldn't be a draft pick, mid-late round picks for UFA rentals and extras are fine, but the "bigger" names, if they were to be moved, should be returning guys who can help now.

But there are plenty of other pieces I'd take back for Strome other than a center prospect. Panarin will survive without Strome.

I don't think they have to help now - especially since they are basically out of the playoffs. Why not a name who could make a roster next year?

Frankly I don't think it even has to be that close as long as it's a prospect you feel quite good about and is relatively close - a Braden Schneider except at center, for example.

I love Buch as much as the next guy, but I feel like you have to trade him. We have too many wingers. His spot is the most easily replaced from within and he should have big time value.

Wish we extended him and not Kreider, but we’ve made our bed and have to lie in it.

Because is there one?

Byfield is probably the highest rated and we just decided we wanted Laf over him.

I'm not giving up Kakko for Lundell, Newhook or Krebs.
Yeah, I mean, I agree. But what I am curious about, and what the organization will never be honest about, is if their approach to the 2019 draft would have been different had the results of the 2020 draft been known. I think we can all safely assume that their approach to the Kreider conundrum would have been different has they known Laf was in the pipeline, the same applies to the draft as well.

Drafting two potentially elite players in two consecutive drafts is great, but when those players play a position that is already an organizational strength, it introduces problems. Good to have problems, but problems nonetheless.

I don't know which of Kakko or Lafreniere the team views as more of a sure thing. But, with Panarin already in the fold, Buch having developed into a complete 1st liner, and Kravtsov looking legit, I really don't think they should rule out a potential trade for a cost controlled center. Kakko to Zegras might be a downgrade one for one (for example), but since there isn't enough ice time to go around on the wings anyway, it might not end up being a downgrade from a production standpoint even if both players hit their ceilings.

I am not advocating for this to happen, but I think it should be explored. Players on my short list include Zegras, Byfield, Newhook, and Cozens with necessary adds as you work your way down the list.

I personally trade either Laf or Kakko, whichever one the team thinks is worse, for Zegras straight up. Not sure if Anaheim does.

The best strategy for building the roster is to let the young kids develop. Even if that means we're a bit thin at some positions and busting at the seams in other positions. We know we have about 8 young defensemen who could be on the team for a long time. We know we have at least 6-8 options for 4 top 6 winger spots -- if we include Gauthier and Pajuniemi.

There are no immediate positions of need -- meaning we don't NEED to sign/trade a top 9 C until end of off-season of 22. If a can't miss opportunity appears sooner, then we should go for it. But making a super painful trade in the name of balance or adding depth in one position when the depth we have at the other positions hasn't fully sorted itself out (due to youthfulness) then I'm of the opinion not to rush anything.

If anything, I put even more effort in developing the young depth we have in smarter/faster ways. If that means changing coaches or anything else, i'm more up for that than making a trade because we're under some illusion that we're a contender or that we need to make the playoffs. We don't. We need to maximize our future by seeing which young pieces develop into our core.

The slight bummer of this season so far is that Fox is the only young player who has emerged as a core piece.

Kakko, Miller, Chytil, Lindgren and Kravtsov have all taken steps. As have Jones, Schneider, Robertson, Paju, Barron, Skinner and Berard. Laf has taken steps as well but less obvious steps. Shesty and Georgy have had a weird year.

They self rented Fasth last season for no reason at all and I hate to be the messenger on this but Trouba and Kreider don't need anyones help to "waste" their contracts.

Who knows what heights the 3rd/4th rounder Fast might have gotten might hit! It's limited only by your imagination!
