I think it is time to show Kreider the third line and bump up Lafreniere to the 2nd . It's not a reward for Lafreniere but a kick in the ass for Kreider who is just so so once again . He scores over half of his goals via the PP and had just a few assists . I think he is better suited out of the top 6 every game and likely still put up the same numbers and it will give Laf some more ice time . I can't see it hurting anything at this stage of the season . Kreider will still have his crease role on the PP . I would also go with Barron-Rooney or Howden -Gauthier on the 4th .

Ha crazy I was just thinking about this same thing. I think over the next ~season or so this is the most likely approach. Cut Kreider's time 5v5 for Lafreniere but keep Kreider in his PP role. Alternative would be have Lafreniere get more min playing in Strome's spot on the PP.

For deadline, I only really see Smith going. Maybe DiG if he has value and Strome, Gauthier, Georgie are candidates if we’re blown away. Maybe a hockey trade in there (Dunn?) if we shelter a D for Exp draft I expect Gauthier to be selected. We hold Strome until we see Barron and Chytil more to figure out our future C depth and maybe until we extend Ziba. I’d also like to see Krieder on the 3rd line providing leadership for the kid line.

So next year a new window opens:

Laf Ziba Buch
Pan Strome Kakko
Krieder Chytil Kratvsov
Howton Blackwell Barron
Rooney
Lind Fox
Miller Trouba
Tarmo/Hajek/Bitetto Lundkvist

In the wings:
D: Robertson, Schneider, Jones, Skinner
F: we lack quality depth but: Gettinger, Cuylle, Richards, Reuschoff, Kho, Panju, Henriksson, Edstrom, Aaltonen, Vierling (I think we see this guy sooner than later).

I believe we should look into Eichel if he publicly states he wants out (or Barkov) and maybe a more sure fire LD like Dunn to speed things up. We’ll have to keep an eye out for a cap crunch starting 2022-3.

Deadline deals will be underwhelming. Blackwell is the trade bait on this team. Smith and Johnson if we can find someone looking for depth. Rooney and possibly Gauthier maybe. Georgiev if someone sees something in him. There isn't much value coming back in any of that

I’d wager Robertson has an excellent camp and doesn’t go back down. He is going to be a shutdown monster on the left side. Don’t want to give assets up for Dunn. I think Vierling can surprise people if he gets a chance as well. It’s going to be very interesting if Schneider Robertson and Lundkvist are all ready to go by next year. Rangers might have a tough decision to make

Did you read the full article? The numbers are pretty damning:

These numbers would only matter if he also showed that this isn't the case across the whole league. The numbers are also biased. Most PP goals will be scored in the first 30 seconds than the last 30 seconds because 100% of PP contain the first 30 seconds but less than 100% of PP even reach the 1:30-2:00 mark. Not to mention I already showed the other day that the Rangers PP1 usage is basically league average at 67% for the year (though I imagine it's higher lately).

Very plausible, they’ll have 7-9 D for 6 spots and need to find Barron room in the top 9 eventually. There will be some kind of C trade to happen before next season

Yea not only that with 34 million in the cap they mite bring in a a solid vet for the bottom 6. Nothing that breaks the bank jus someone with more experience who is good at faceoffs, can Pk, play physical, etc. line up is going to look different for sure

I'd be interested to see a league-wide breakdown of the number crunching that Brooks had. But regardless, my concerns with the powerplay have more to do with the strategy of the first unit (stationary, passing for days looking for the perfect shot) and the composition of the second unit (when you have kids to develop, PP2 minutes should be practically guaranteed, particularly over guys like Lemieux and Blackwell). If, as Brooks indicated, PP2 isn't scoring practically at all anyway, then why not make that the kids' developmental playground?

Has there been any noise around the Rangers and what they may do in the next week?

I'd be straight up floored if they did anything significant (either in additions or subtractions, I assume those moves will come in the summer) but you figure they'd do more than just trade Lemieux, especially with the forward log jam they have going on.

I’m more okay than I used to be with the fact that we will miss the playoffs this year, because recently you’ve seen the kids playing better and better. Becoming a more successful developmental season
Yes Fitzy...I agree and I am the same as I had suggested switching CK to line 3 in an earlier reply . We might lose a couple of goals overall but we also might be better served for it short term and long term ....I don't care what CK is paid ...all water under the bridge as we did not know the future when he signed . He can still be a great net front presence /PP and still help the kids on the third line . He might lose a couple of minutes a game and who knows....it might actually be of benefit for him with the less minutes on his body and mind ? That is something we don't know .

Kreider could/should be able to be a GREAT shutdown guy with his speed and size ....and we can also use that for sure . I think moving forward we will rely less and less on his offense because our kids will score more . I think next season we see possibly 45-60 goals combined out of the KK-VK-Laf trio ,20-15-20 respectively . Crossing my fingers for the future .

Buch cold streak and now Panarin has finally taken his rightful place as leading Rongo scorer. 113 point pace in 82 games, prettay good

no. The beat wasn’t full of insiders to begin with, but now they just watch everything on zoom so they’re not really getting any info.

It’s not the worst idea because Kreids and Chytil have looked good in the past

I think Gauthier is protected in the expansion draft. Hajek Lundkvist will be the third pair to start the season unless Robertson makes the jump.

The ironic thing is it would probably serve the team better to take its leading PP point producer off of 1PP and onto 2PP. The first unit would likely diminish but not much, while Fox’s presence would improve the second unit in many areas it's been failing.

I say they should put Fox, Panarin, and Zibanejad on the 2nd PP unit. We’d have the best 2nd PP unit in the league. I’d even use them to start the PP.

I like how Kravtsov used his reach at times this game. He was aggressive with it. He’s the same height as Kakko but looks taller than him on the ice.

I’ll tell you - when this roster is finished, it’s going to be a pain in the ass to play against.

Miller (6-5)
Gauthier (6-4)
Kakko (6-3)
Kravtsov (6-3)
Kreider (6-3)
Buch (6-3)
Trouba (6-3)
Howden (6-3)
Chytil (6-2)
Lafreniere (6-2)
Zbad (6-2)
Hajek (6-2)

Robertson, Barron, Schneider, Skinner and Cuylle all have size and play heavy games too.

There’s obviously going to be some changes with the roster, but overall, Gorton is constructing a team with size, skill, and talent.

In the right system and proper chemistry, we should be a nightmare for opposing teams, and for a long time if Gorton plays his cards right.

Totally agree. This is still a work in progress but in 2 years watch out.

Yeah. No need to trade for anything aside from a center.

How many more games until it’s clear we’re not making the playoffs? Five or six? Assuming we don’t go on a bitchin’ win streak I expect the kids to start getting lots of p-t after the deadline.
