Despite our PP woes, Fox is 2nd in the league among dmen with 17 points on the PP. Hedman is first with 20. So I'd say Fox is doing fine there.

We really need to stop moving the puck around the perimeter so much and looking for the perfect shot.
One possibility is that hardly no one has a great release so they think they need the perfect shot.

Last nights loss all but killed Calgary in the playoff chase. Changes are finally coming to that roster.

@Edge - think the Monahan/Lindholm ideas are revisited this summer prior to making a JE deal?

Its hard to say. The Rangers would love to add a Lindholm, and I would imagine that Calgary’s interest in Buch has only grown. But the Flames seem frozen in place.

Strome and Buchnevich would net us pretty nice assets, but I don't think we'll end up trading Buch. Smith could get us like another 3rd rounder.

What PP woes?

Bob's getting bought out once Knight is of his ELC, I suppose.

You can easily identify the contracts that will have to get bought out.

Skinner another one.
I wonder if teams were expecting (hoping for) compliance buyouts in the next CBA when those deals were signed.

Honestly, they look better than they are even though they've been scoring. They dominate the puck. They should be more productive though. I'd say they're top 5 in terms of talent. Fox, Panarin, Mika, Kreider, and Strome is as good as it gets. The results aren't nearly as good as the talent. The Rangers have a lot of problem but getting 5 great offensive players on the ice at the same time is not one of them.

I like how Kravtsov used his reach at times this game. He was aggressive with it. He’s the same height as Kakko but looks taller than him on the ice.

I’ll tell you - when this roster is finished, it’s going to be a pain in the ass to play against.

Miller (6-5)
Gauthier (6-4)
Kakko (6-3)
Kravtsov (6-3)
Kreider (6-3)
Buch (6-3)
Trouba (6-3)
Howden (6-3)
Chytil (6-2)
Lafreniere (6-2)
Zbad (6-2)
Hajek (6-2)

Robertson, Barron, Schneider, Skinner and Cuylle all have size and play heavy games too.

There’s obviously going to be some changes with the roster, but overall, Gorton is constructing a team with size, skill, and talent.

In the right system and proper chemistry, we should be a nightmare for opposing teams, and for a long time if Gorton plays his cards right.

So f***ing backwards. So Larry is arguing for giving more time to the unit that scored one measly goal??? Sorry now THIS would be an entitlement.

Force Quinn’s hand. Make something happen in the limited time, even as little as zone entry and control, high danger chances etc. PP2 has done absolutely nothing to deserve any time increase. This is the cause of PP1 getting more time, not vice versa.

Did you read the full article? The numbers are pretty damning:

Brooks said:
For the longer the first unit stays on, the more the returns diminish. Of the first unit’s 22 power-play goals, six were scored within the first 16 seconds of an advantage, 10 within the first 36 seconds, 18 within the first 59 seconds and 20 within the first 1:06.
That means two power-play goals over 36 games in the final 54 seconds of a power play.
That means when it’s time to change, the first unit needs to change. Come on, already.

I think it is time to show Kreider the third line and bump up Lafreniere to the 2nd . It's not a reward for Lafreniere but a kick in the ass for Kreider who is just so so once again . He scores over half of his goals via the PP and had just a few assists . I think he is better suited out of the top 6 every game and likely still put up the same numbers and it will give Laf some more ice time . I can't see it hurting anything at this stage of the season . Kreider will still have his crease role on the PP . I would also go with Barron-Rooney or Howden -Gauthier on the 4th .

Martin really solidified the defensive scheme. It’s night and day from last year. It gives me hope that if the rangers do find a solid offensive coach Or assistant coach, with the amount of talent we have on the roster the PP and overall offense should be a lot better as well

Then what's the point with Quinn? Martin improved the D. Next on the to-do list is a new coach to fix the transition + 5/5 offensive game. I don't hate Quinn, but in the overall context he clearly needs help with everything.

Just as an aside in the matinee Washington game a couple of weeks ago a Swedish studio commentator saw Quinn as a weakness for the Rangers and wanted him replaced, the commentator didn't like the way Quinn handled the goalie situation with Lundquist etc. Sure you can say it was a homer take, but the criticism of Quinn is not only on this board.

The Rangers obviously sit on some very desirable trade pieces, it's only unfortunate that the current trade climate is so difficult in this flat cap situation. The Rangers need more D and C that are comfortable on the puck and strong on the transition.

Strome is good in the offensive zone, not so much elsewhere. I'd trade him to a team looking for offensive help and look for someone to help the PP2 QB situation + transition out of D in return.

The more I think about it, I don't know how the org is going to successfully carry Panarin, Kreider, and Lafreniere over the medium term unless one of them switch sides. There isn't enough ice time to go around. Panarin and Lafreniere shouldn't be made to switch sides (Hart caliber player and 1OA pick who you need to build up in his comfort zone) and I'm convinced Kreider can't.

I wonder how this gets resolved. The options are basically cut Kreider's time 5v5 (keep his PP1 role) in which case he would start to look overpaid for his role, continue to give Lafreniere limited minutes (and thinking specifically over the next year or so not right this very second...eventually this kid needs the chance to play bigger minutes like Kakko is getting this year) but maybe find a way to get him more PP time, force Kreider/Lafreniere out of position, or trade one before it really becomes an issue. And obviously Kreider may not be able to be moved.
