I am with you. I would probably opt to do the same. I will say that I do not think that Gauthier's game is suited for the 4th line. Or rather PDG's game is more suited to it than Gauthier's is. But yeah, it is tough to make changes after two wins. But that is about the only way that Kravstov is getting in right now

And then we wait for Kravtsov to get 8 minutes of ice.

At this point to me it seems as if the Rangers are taking calls on the guys who can't get into the lineup. We aren't sure what they are doing with Buch. Are they keeping him to give him a contract around $7m per? He would most likely fetch a very nice return but he has improved in all aspects of his game. We can't just start paying everyone 7m+ per. Fox is getting one hell of a raise in a short time. Lindgren will most likely sign for around 4/5per for 5 years or so most likely. Zibanejad I estimate around 8-10m per.

Raises for the kids after that. It looks as if they will have to make some moves. Tough time for the team with that ridiculous Trouba contract.

I dont see any reason for Gusev to clear other than a league-wide gentlemans agreement. This league is just such a joke sometimes.
What does this even mean? That he is really a solid player and is being blacklisted? Can't be that his play was lacking, can it? No. Believing it is a leaguewide conspiracy is much better.

a $4.5 mil cap hit for 5 points in 20 games might also have something to do with it...he hasn't been good at all. how many contenders have that kind of cap space to spare. and he can walk as a ufa at the end of the year. last year he gets claimed without question

I believe this organization should consider bringing in a Crash Davis type player to Center between Alexis Lafreniere and Vitali Kravtsov and make that our third line for the remainder of the this season.
There might be some options available out there if the price to acquire them is reasonable.
This list includes but not limited too:
Brandon Sutter
Luke Glendening
Mikael Granlund
or the ultimate Crash,
Ryan Getzlaf.

Strome is at $4.5 now, right? I think he would sign for $6-$6.5. He is not going to, nor should he, get more than Kreider. I think that Strome sees the value in playing for this team, with a coaching staff that resurrected his career. And oh yeah, he also gets to center one of the top players in hockey. Maybe idealistic, but I do not think that he would go and search for every last dollar.

I just don’t see him signing for less than $6.5. GMs will look at his performance, stats and how well he’s regarded and will discount previous struggles as the growing pains and probably will be right.

And he will want a long term contract too. Whether it’s Zibanejad or Eichel, if either of them are here then I don’t see the Rangers being able to sign Strome. Folks can think I’m crazy but with the way Kakko is shaping up this season (and expecting very similar from Lafrenière next season) IMO it’s almost even money that Strome and Chytil will be our long term top-6 centers. This could be two years from now:

Panarin - Strome - Kakko
Lafrenière - Chytil - Buchnevich
Kreider - Zib trade - Kravtsov

He did that during last year’s Covid Cup. Again, he’s 3 years removed from the draft. He’s not some kid straight outta juniors or college. He’s been playing in the second best league in the world, throw his ass in there and see what he has. I can’t wait until training camp in September where it’ll be 4 years since his draft and we’ll still have the same question marks about him because he only played in the final few games of the season after the Rangers got eliminated from playoff contention.

Trust me when I tell you that after following Kravtsov development for 3 years (while watching all these Traktor games from across the globe) I’d love nothing more than watching him in the Rangers gear on game day.

But I completely understand and accept Quinn’s point of view - to him Kravtsov’s play at this moment is largely unknown and in the situation the Rangers are in now, I’d too rely on players that played so far this season in front of him, not somewhere in the KHL.

Does it do disservice to Kravtsov? Probably but his time will come when the right opportunity presents itself.

You may be right about the cost. But you and I are splitting hairs at that point. I will say that at $6.5 , that is a hard cap for me with Strome.

And no, don't think you are crazy. I have been envisioning for a while a what a world looks like with no Zibanejad and a resigned Strome and Buchnevich.

If moving Mika, one needs to bring back a young center as a part of the deal. Preferably a tougher to play type. Those are rare. Kadri is taken. Fredric comes to mind. But Boston would have to send more back. And the Rangers may be handing them a Cup next year if trading Zibanejad to them. Look at what that would do for their center depth.

Anyway, back to the original thought, yeah thinking of what a world with Strome and Chytil would look like

Quinn will barely play Lafreniere now and we want to put Kravtsov on his line?

Howden was already out last night. PDG could go, as he doesn't really have a defined role, but I don't see how we are fitting both players. Barron can continue to play in the AHL for now. One problem at a time.

Rooney is a primary PKer. If he is out, then Howden is probably in to fill that role. Blackwell has played well and deserves to stay in the lineup.

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Laf-Chytil-Kravtsov
Blackwell-Rooney-Gauthier

It's not really fair to Gauthier to drop him from that line, but I don't see any other way to make it work, barring an injury.

Agree with this but Gauthier played well on the 3rd line and Howden is off Covid protocol so PDG out likely means Howden’s in in that spot and no other changes.

He's playing little minutes because that's what he deserves. Honestly, he probably doesn't even deserve 3rd line minutes right now. No way he should be playing more than Panarin or Kreider, especially when they're rightfully trying to make the playoffs. Its very simple, play better get better minutes.

Kreider has been slowing down recently. I’d give his ES minutes to Lafreniere for a game to see if he’s better than the last time he played with Zibanejad and Buchnevich.
