Perhaps, but I don't see Eichel keeping them.

If he wants out this summer he will make the necessary noise.

A organization who makes a trade based on what type of noise a player could make is Buffalo, or similar. He is not going to mope for 5 years, nor go play in the KHL, worst that happens is he publicly requests a trade and the team says they are working on it yet have not found the right trade.

No team wants a player around that doesn’t want to be there.

Very few players want to be in Buffalo, if they did they would not be where they are.

I know some Ranger fans want to think they'll get him cheap, yet Buffalo would be far better off keeping Eichel and trying to build around him. He can't just choose to go anywhere else, or not extend, or only extend until his RFA years are over. He can complain and that's about it.

What are their other choices? To take some prospects who were drafted outside of the top couple picks, like they have amounted to much of anything on Buffalo in the past? Or picks that too would be outside of the top couple picks? Maybe they develop another Reinhart or Ristolainen at best?

Or wait until some other team ends up with a player near his caliber that does not want to be wherever he is, where Eichel, nor that player also does not want to be or go to?

Not trying to say Buffalo will not do something dumb, more so saying if they do trade Eichel is will turn out to be not much in 5 years for them.

As far as the Rangers trading for Eichel that would also end up disappointing, they'd eventually become some form of the Buffalo roster due to both the return going back for him, and his incoming cap hit. Eichel without Zbad, Buch, the return for Eichel, and take your pick of whatever good young cap casualty while they are still married to Trouba, Kreider over the next 5 years ends up poorly.

This isn't a decision to waive a guy, if Knoblauch is responsible for putting kakko on the line with strome and paranin during the last game then you're telling me he cant make a decision to scratch a AAAA level player to dress Kravtsov if he feels VK is ready for game action? Or are we now suggesting that Quinn is actually the person Drury is talking to in game on the mic and he is relaying instructions from DQ to Knoblauch realtime during games and Knoblauch is the avatar coach....
Exactly, might be easier to just install a speaker behind the bench. Gotta think insecurity is creeping in Quinn’s head.

I hate to say this as the team needs a player or two who can step in for their teammates and play a physical, heavy style, but Lemieux has been a disappointment for me. If there are interested teams at the deadline looking to add a player who can bring that physical element in the playoffs, I'd consider moving him.
You and me both. You were the one that got us all interested in lemeiux before the trade. Definitely need more players like him but just a bit more talented.

Let's be clear, if Quinn doesn't want it to happen, its not happening .
So originally it was Quinn instructed him to do it and it was Quinn's decision, to now this statement which eludes to knoblauch being able to do it because Quinn was okay with it happening. Just stop. If igor were to shit the bed tomorrow knoblauch is the one deciding if and when to pull him, it's not like there is some random fomular of antalytics Quinn dictated to knoblauch in some pregame meeting. Quinn advises him how he wants it handled but that's it. Quinn isn't there to make the live in game decisions. If Quinn was calling the shots from home during the games then the towel boy could be wearing a suit on the bench as the surrogate rather than the org taking the head coach out of hartford just to act entirely on orders. They put a qualified guy in the position to run the team/bench in game because that person IS making decisions.

Can we talk about panarin for a minute?

95 pts in 69 games last year.

he’s literally on a 95 pt per 69 game pace again this year.

he’s a top 3 player in the nhl since becoming a Ranger. It shouldn’t be a debate at this point.

While being shackled by Quinn. He would have been Gretzky like otherwise.

Also it hasn’t been discussed many ch but it really looks like we made the right call moving on from Brady Skjei and getting a good pick out of it

Just right, I don’t see how Skjei AND his cap hit can make left side of Lindgren, Miller, Hajek better.

What are you rambling about?

Knoblauch said the move was discussed previously. Knoblauch was coaching and pulled the trigger on it at a particular time for whatever reason and then it worked right away. Good on him. Time will tell if it continues.

No one is arguing on Quinn’s behalf or saying that Knoblauch is wearing an ear piece. It was a nice coaching move but let’s not turn him into Scotty Bowman just yet.

Eichel wanted to be there initially, he signed the 8 year deal. Things change. Still doesn't change the fact that high profile players who publicly want out (not that its happened yet but its coming) are never not traded eventually. Rarely, if ever, do they convince that player to stay.

They have 2 years of freedom. If he demands a trade when his NMC kicks in, and tells Sabres he’ll only play for 2-3 teams they will get a bunch of spare parts and a 1st. No big impact prospects. I really don’t see that franchise in the playoffs in 2 years or less IMO

Yikes didnt realize he was making that much...

if they retained 50% I would be interested in a trade for a late round pick.

well I can understand why but NYR will be patient . Lundkvist likely slides in next year and Hajek should continue to play this season

I could see Smith traded but I could also see him resign for much less

I would dump Smith now if a team is interested in him and try to get Stralman at 50% retained. It would be an upgrade and a good stopgap for Lundkvist not to be rushed or to ease in with Stralman becoming a 7th D at some point next year.
