I prefer Robertson over Jones so that’s a plus imo.

Still - look at what Gorts has amassed:

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
___________
Robertson/Jones — Lundkvist/Schneider
•Hajek, Reunanen•

We’re have 4 STUD defensive prospects at LD+RD, while our top-4 pretty much set. Abs Two more quality dmen after the blue chippers..

Gorton will go shopping sooner or later. Teams league wide are dying for a fraction of the potential we have at D.

Can we get a center or two out of this?

That’s one way to look at it but to be clear Lithuania is not Russia and Kaspar (according to Wikipedia) has US and Lithuanian (no mention of Russian) citizenship. My grandmother’s family (Tolsz or Tolosz) was Lithuanian by the way. She definitely didn’t see herself as Russian or Polish. The Polish actually have a lot more commonality with Lithuanians than Russians though. True though that Lithuania was a satellite state of the now defunct Soviet Union and that Kaspar grew up in those times and that was his in to Russian hockey. I would call him a Russian trained and developed player but not a Russian though.

Yes, I know the difference between Russia and the other former Soviet states. When Kasparaitis was born, it was the same country, and he represented Russia after the union fell apart. I have to draw the line somewhere. Eligibility to represent Russia seems like a good one, no? Just like Georgiev.

A 3rd line of Kreider, Chytil and Gauthier would be pretty scary for oppositions, assuming there's a reason to move CK away from Zib.

Yes, but I cannot see them dismantling the top-2 lines right now

Two possibilities: When Lafreniere is better or at least at the similar to Kreider level offensively, or he’s very good defensively against top opposition.

The defensive piece that I think is most marketable is Zac Jones if the Rangers choose to make him available.

It really depends on what the potential trade counterpart is looking for. With Zac they are not going to have an immediate lineup option (if this is the reason to trade) unlike with Hajek / Reunanen,

Brooks says Kinkaid on the taxi and if he needs 1 more game to be waiver eligible I wouldn’t be playing him w Igor and Georgiev healthy

I was watching some highlights from last year (what a fun season, I miss ADA), and Georgiev looked soooo much better. Idk what happened to him this season. He was lights out on many nights. Sure sometimes he collapsed under the weight of our team giving up 45 high danger sog a night, but he looked really legit. He was making 10 alarm saves routinely, stealing many games for us (remember what that feels like?) This season, in addition to his bad numbers, he's looked so shaky. Maybe Hank's influence?

Goaltending is just a really fickle position re-consistency. Look at Cam Talbot's 18-19 season. Most goalies have bad years, it's just that we got one of the most consistent starters in NHL history with Hank.

Question with Georgiev is whether this is a blip year, or if he is on the Roman Cechmanek path out of the league.

Also- inventing my own rumor. Florida is in position to make a run in the postseason this year and needs secondary scoring. Would anyone say no to a Buchnevich for Lundell deal?

I’m not sure there’s a more useless article Carp has written in his Athletic career than the trade proposal one that went up earlier today

literally the entire article is just people giving him trade proposals and him arrogantly stating “will never happen”.

And then at the end he says thank god for Jeff Gorton is making the decisions and not the fans

Yea I did find that a bit odd. I thought his commentary about what the NYR actually might offer up for Eichel to be a bit insightful.

Custance had an article this weekend where he asked "NHL execs" their thoughts on fan trade proposals.

Eichel offers:
  1. COL for Byram, Newhook, 2022 2nd, 2021 1st. NHL exc: Sabres say no...picks late in the round and no guarantee of getting a star back.
  2. CBJ for Seth Jones and Bemstrom. NHL exec: Sabres say no...Jones doesn't have term.
  3. NYR for Buchnevich, Strome, Lundqvist, Schneider, 2021 1st. NHL exec: Sabres say no...none of the NYR untouchables are part of the deal (lists as Fox, Shesty, and Panarin (?)). "If you don't want to give up those guys why should Buffalo give up Eichel."
  4. MIN for Fiala, Dumba, 1st round pick. NHL exec: Sabres say no...no first line player coming back.
  5. LAK for Byfield, Turcotte, Kempe, 2022 1st, 2023 1st, 2022 2nd. NHL exec: "That's what Buffalo would be saying yes to." He does admit "I think the Kings would say no. It's too much for the Kings."
Some pretty hot takes in there.
  1. I don't understand how the NYR not being willing to part with their best assets is relevant if their offer still beats other teams and Buffalo feels they have to move Eichel (not saying it does in this scenario just a general point)? Only in the muddled incoherent world of NHL GMs does that make sense.
  2. Yea no shit that LA trade would get it done. I would be completely stunned if that was offered. That is basically their rebuild. If that is the type of value it would take it really means that Eichel is not getting traded. Based on the situation as it presently stands.
  3. Pretty sure this exec works in the Sabres front office?

I think that Buffalo definitely says no to that offer from us. At least until Eichel forces his way out; then who knows.

Using Fox as a centrepiece looks right value-wise, but our defense would be absolutely crippled by it. We may not have an Eichel at C right now, but our top9 is looking pretty damn good for a couple years down the road.

For my money, Fox + ~2.5M will have more value to this roster than Eichel would.

Brooks says Kinkaid on the taxi and if he needs 1 more game to be waiver eligible I wouldn’t be playing him w Igor and Georgiev healthy

Waiver eligible would mean he would need to pass through waivers to be placed on the taxi squad. If we lose Kincaid on waivers and we do not acquire another goalie that fulfills the minimum exposure requirements before the expansion draft, Georgiev would have to be exposed to Seattle.
