It's also pretty clear that the draft isn't a panacea to parity- it isn't sufficient to fix critically broken teams like Ottawa, Buffalo, Detroit, ect.

If better parity is the goal the NHL needs to think of alternate strategies.

We have said it for a long time, good teams develop prospects well. Miserable teams cannot develop prospects, almost. And especially not defenders, they are shelled to heavily playing on a miserable team. Just look at Rasmus Dahlin. How would Q Hughes or Makar and co look after playing 19 straight without a win?

Raty is one of those guys who I was never sold on as the top pick, or even a sure-fire top-5 or top-10 pick.

But in that 11-15 range? I like him a lot.

I think the key with Raty is expectations. I don't go in expecting a top six forward, or a guy who should be considered a blue chip prospect. If he takes a giant step forward after being drafted, that's awesome. Of course I'd take that. But I would consider that a bonus rather than an expectation.

But he's definitely a guy who looks like he has a path to the NHL. He also looks like a guy who could do his best if allowed to develop without a world of expectations heaped upon him.

Does anyone in Europe know his contract status for next year?

His current deal expires in 2022, but he'd be subject to the transfer agreement if signed between July 1st and August 15th and could then come over without needing the team's or federation's approval.

Contract status? @Amazing Kreiderman can tell you what he ate for lunch.

This never gets old, does it?

Ross the Boss only played 6 games so far for Isles....read earlier today they are scared to waive him in case they lose him . I doubt he ever makes it to the Rangers.....would be funny though if he did . I suspect that the Isles will use him more against the Caps .Drawing a nice check though for a guy who came all the way from Tier 2 Junior on PEI . If Rangers landed him they could trade/package Lemieux who might be attractive for a playoff bound club and pocket some money and make room for a 60 % guy next season to rotate in/out of that spot with Ross the Boss . Every half million will count for us and we likely have Barron for that spot on most nights .

I don't. Buch has been consistently improving year after year. If anything, I'd be concerned if he wasn't.

You talk about his most consistent season is during a contract year, while ignoring the fact that he's just a better player than previous years.

lol

he’s a better player this year than his previous years which is exactly what I said. It also happens to be a contract year. Which is exactly what I said.

so what am I ignoring exactly?

Here is "Coach Quinn" talking about how he wants the team to go back to playnig that super strict N-S style that we played when we didn't score any thing and played super predictable hockey (starting at app. 3:55:

How long before he is back? Like DQ (indirectly) says in this interview, the players aren't listening to him. The players won't listen to him when he gets back too, but that doesn't mean that he can't do damage.

When your shooting percentage is the lowest in the NHL, its not even a remotely about bad puck luck. It is structural, LAK was there for a long long time. Its not like Anze Kopitar, Carter and co all of a sudden couldn't shoot, they were super disciplined, didn't gamble with the puck, didn't go staright to the net but dumped and chased instead, faced collected defenses -- and so forth. DQ doesn't realize that.

I would buy this spiel if the team didn't take half the game off most nights. You know what might set the tone for discipline and organization? Keeping your lines together longer than 3 minutes.

That's been a breath of fresh air from Knoblauch.

He's only played 6 games because he sucks and rarely actually does anything of note toughness wise.

We can get that from Lemieux.

Who posts this literally a week after they beat a team 9-0?

I just mean that between he and Reunanen he has a couple of pieces teams may be interested in. Robertson allows him some flexibility there to move those guys for upgrades as needed. If Hajek had dropped the ball, the depth doesn’t look as great.
The defensive piece that I think is most marketable is Zac Jones if the Rangers choose to make him available.

100%. He's the most redundant piece in the system that has the most value in a trade. I'm very confident that both Lundkvist and Robertson will be Rangers next year. Schneider the year after. DeAngelo imploding really made Lundkvist an absolute untouchable, as if his body of work in Sweden didn't already make it that way.

In a perfect world five years from now.

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Schneider
Robertson - Lundkvist

That future alone should keep Gorton's job secure for a while. All of those guys except Robertson and Schneider were targeted and dealt for in some capacity, whether it was moving up in the draft, finagaling trade pieces, or gambling asset capital.

I prefer Robertson over Jones so that’s a plus imo.

Still - look at what Gorts has amassed:

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
___________
Robertson/Jones — Lundkvist/Schneider
•Hajek, Reunanen•

We’re have 4 STUD defensive prospects at LD+RD, while our top-4 pretty much set. Abs Two more quality dmen after the blue chippers..

Gorton will go shopping sooner or later. Teams league wide are dying for a fraction of the potential we have at D.

This isn’t the same Ola from like, 5 years ago.

I’m pretty sure he’s using. Totally addicted to lucky charms or some bullshit.

Haha, it was a reference to what DQ said — i.e. in the linked interview DQ notes that our shooting percentage was the worst in the league, and claims that it was unfair that we didn’t score when the team played his way — and that game was of course before the 9-0 game. In that interview he also declares that he wants the team to go back to playing his way, when it seemed like we could play hours without scoring a goal unless someone gift wrapped us one.

My response was in relation to that comment, it’s not bad puck luck when your shooting percentage is the worst in the league (like it was when we played DQs preferred way). Then it’s structural, and it happens when you play a style that is too predictable.
