So...I mean what's going to happen? Can this continue? And I don't mean the losses. I mean the struggles of Kakko and Lafreniere.

I think Quinn is as good as gone. The question is when? In the coming weeks or after the season? Because I wonder if the longer Quinn and Oliver are on this team, the more their hooks will be sinked into Laf and Kakko and we may reach the point of no return.

As important as finding the right coach (Quinn isn’t it), the most important decision this team is going to have to make is which wingers go and which defensemen go.

The Rangers have accumulated even talent and assets to make this work, even if all the players don’t pan out.

Unfortunately, Quinn is the coach right now. So, some of this evaluation will have to be made on his watch.

The Rangers are going to have to make the right decision on who to keep between Buchnevich, Kakko, LaFreniere, and Kravtsov. The same can be said with Miller, Lundqvist, and Schneider.

The Rangers need more C. They have plenty of desirable assets.

Kakko, Kravtsov and/or LaFreniere may never be the guys we thought they would, so Gorton needs to get off the carousel sooner than later. Same with the defensemen.

A lot of our NCAA prospects have had a seamless transition into the pros the past few seasons, but kids out the CHL and European leagues have generally had a difficult time adjusting. There's a culture problem in there somewhere.

Trade Buch and Strome while their values high. Force him to play the kids the rest of the year. Warts and all. I really don’t have an answer, but this team needs a serious shake up and the kids need minutes in all situations. If Zibby is going to continue to blow, just play them and hope for the best

Who are the NCAA prospects??? Fox and Lindgren? Miller is having his struggles and if we had better depth he maybe isn’t playing with Trouba right now, possibly getting scratched or AHL time.

Skjei regressed under this staff even further.

Quinn f***ing sucks.

I have been against giving up Kakko in an eichel deal BUT I am beginning to become more open to the idea. I say this mainly with the caveat that zib is also moved out for a young cost controlled 2c that can win a damn faceoff AND we are able to keep chytil out of an eichel deal. We simply need to get the center position settled here with some long term stability. Our top 2 centers are both a year away from ufa. Zib may end up with a monster bounce back contract year and I hate paying players for these outlier contract seasons. They wont keep him as a self rental and at that point they also wont trade him so you can be sure they would end up paying to resign him.

So in an indirect way there is an exchange of:

zib to eichel (who is also weak on faceoffs)
kakko to legitimate long term 1b/2c on par with kakko's value (I know centers are more valuable than wings)

I guess my point is I am not in favor of moving kakko for just eichel unless there are other moves that accompany it as well to balance the roster. We are so heavy on the wings, we need to get the center positions settled with some stability. Right now we are building a baseball team with no shortstop or centerfielder, or a football team without a quarterback. We all keep talking about when the window for this team is suppose to open to contend but right now we have no stability for the roster at center.

At BU Quinn coached Eichel, Grzelcyk, McAvoy, Brady Tkachuk, Greenway, Keller, Forsbacka-Karlsson, Shane Bowers, Evan Rodrigues, Keifer Bellows, Dante Fabbro, Jake Oettinger and a half dozen other low end NHL picks.

The years Quinn’s team finished 1st were the years he had Eichel, Grzelcyk, Rodrigues and a few other low end draft picks like AJ Greer, or McAvoy, Bellows, Fabbro, Keller, Greenway, Forsbacka and Oettinger. They never won a championship.

I’m not sure how you measure the quality of a coach when they’re getting guys like Eichel, McAvoy, Tkachuk, Keller, etc. come through their program routinely. That team with McAvoy, Fabbro, Oettinger in net, Keller, Greenway, Bellows, etc… can it really be bad at the NCAA level? Most of these guys are already drafted before their freshman year so they’re already super standouts.

Are you a development coach because Eichel and McAvoy, Tkachuk and Keller chose your college? Do you really get credit for how good these guys are? If he coached a non-prestigious hockey school to success it would be a lot more impressive than a program that consistently attracts NHL 1st round talent.

This has always been the consensus on Quinn. He is an excellent communicator who is amazing a recruiting. But what has he shown on the actual side of coaching?

I think Laff needs to sit a few games. Let him watch guys like Rooney and Blackwell compete up and down the ice with a combined half the talent Laff has. I saw him joking on the bench last night, not the worst thing but not a great look when you're invisible most nights. Someone needs to light a fire under his ass.
