Or maybe it’s because Skjei was exposed as unfit for the role the Rangers expected for him while with a more complete and mature roster around him in Carolina Skjei looks decent. Canes sucked for many years before they got to this point (what two seasons ago?) even when all pundits were saying they should have been doing better because of all the quality of their roster. Developmental and maturation takes time and it looks like well over 50% of this board is incapable to comprehend it and show patience.
Skjei plays in almost all situations with the Canes. He isn't playing with Slavin. Pairs with Pesce at times. Carolina's roster is still very young, but definitely more mature. My point was that they play hard every night. That is something that is in any teams control and the Rangers don't always look like they give the effort.
I'm one who is very optimistic with the Rangers future. I just don't know if Quinn is the guy to get them to the next level.

Can anyone tell me why people are so focused on Howden all the time. The guy is a good penalty killer, plays on the 4th line for league minimum...we're getting our moneys worth. Its asinine how people pile on guys here.

With regards to Skjei, i never got the hate, he was asked to fill a role he wasn't fit for. His contract got him traded, if he was making less he'd still be here imo.

It's 100% because he was part of the McDonagh return. But I agree with you.

Playing with a consistent effort is also a part of maturation. The amount or a ratio if you will of when the Rangers look like playing with effort vs not makes it a none-coaching issue to me. Further, the team’s goaltending outside of Shesterkin, early season struggles from most of the vets then the injury bug has unsurprisingly taken its toll on the mental preparedness of younger players.

I don’t there was hate per se. Your post sums it up perfectly. He didn’t meet front office expectations and with prospects coming up - was traded with his contract for a good value. End of story.

Some also hold unwarranted resentment because of Andersson fiasco. But at this point it seem anything higher than a competent 4C would be a surprising development no pun intended, and the Rangers seem to already find a better option for even that spot. It is what it is.

I don't think maturity has much to do with consistent effort. If a young player doesn't come to play every night, you replace him with someone who is going to play hard. I think the ability to get your team to play your system with maximum effort is the most valuable asset of a coach. Systems are what they are. Nobody is fooling anyone. By the same token, you can have great players who don't play hard and your team will not succeed.

He has regressed every season and has produced no offense whatsoever. There are simply better players who can also penalty kill while offering other things to benefit the team. Rooney, for example, is much better and they snagged him off the scrap heap in UFA. It's clear Quinn has favored Howden from the start, for some odd reason, which only compounds things.

Ship out Georgiev and roll with Kinkaid as the backup. Save additional cap there.

I’m ok w that but only if Shesterkin is fully healthy and they get Atleast a 2nd plus a G to expose in expansion

Buffalo makes sense for both Georgiev and Howden but will they move picks? I think they should

They aren’t getting a 2nd for Georgiev. They probably couldnt get that when his value was higher. He certainly isn’t fetching that now.

well keep him then. He had 2 horrific games let’s not overreact. He can bounce back and they need to keep expansion in mind

So this is pretty much our pipeline right now. I bolded the guys that seem to be in long term plans and left pending FAs. Buch and Strome we have no idea what will happen, same as Zib. VK could be trade bait. I love Goat but we need to let VK play and I don't want either one wasted on the 4th line. One of Trouba/Nils/Schneider will eventually be moved. We have an embarrassment of riches at D and we have a lot of unproven Wing talent. Is it worth taking a draft pick for Strome? What are we doing with a 2nd rounder to move the needle for the future? Better off getting a prospect IMO unless we squeeze a 1st. Then we have to decide are we moving our D for a 1c or 2c. We can't keep them all. If we grab a 1C then Zibanejad is likely gone. I think Chytil can easily be our 2C next year. Maybe best case scenario is move up for the best Center within reach next draft whether that;s trading our 1st and a prospect or whatever Strome nets us. Just thinking out loud with what to do. It's time to start making moves this offseason and figure out who we are. But we certainly don't need extra picks to add to the log jams.

Jones + VK can net us what Center prospect? I really like VK but Buch has earned top line for us and we need Laf and Kakko getting as much ES/PP time as possible. Heck maybe add in Robertson if we can get guys like Hajek and Bitetto to look solid or sign a vet each year like Smith.

Because Staal is in Detroit, Vesey is in Toronto and Tanner Glass retired.
