What would an ideal Buch trade look like?

"Ideal" would be finding a fit where they have a young center, a willingness and ability to sign Buch and an interest in Buch's camp to sign there.

A Panthers team that wants quality on the right wing beyond Hornqvist and has cap space.

An Avs team looking to spread it's offensive weapons around a bit more.

A Kings team looking for help on the wings.

have you heard any rumbling of intent from Barkov?

Imagine a world where we add Panarin and Barkov for nothing but cap space

Can anyone help me with a comparable today to what Mika was a few year ago? I know the usual names of Turcotte, Zegras, Krebs, Newhook etc, but I feel like Zib was a bit further along than them at that point.
He was much further along. That trade was made ahead of Z’s D+6 season. He had already established himself as a 50 point player in the NHL. PLD is a decent comp, but he wasn’t viewed as a disappointment like Z was. Dylan Strome? You’re looking at NHL players not prospects.

Who's more valuable?

Zibs has never really been amazing at 5v5. Very opportunistic. The better PKer. Is his PP #'s worth paying for when we have so much talent?

Strome is harder to gauge 5v5 since it's mostly with Panarin. In his limited time away from Bread, he still looked the part. Better 5v5?

I honestly don't know how I feel about paying players merely on PP success. Zibs is more than just a PP specialist but his PP production is the reason he will get double digits. I don't know
Trade Zibanejad, it's the right decision. I can't see an extension being anything other than a disappointment.

Yeah, makes sense. I didn't realize Zib had scored that much before we got him. That trade still baffles me from Ottawas side.

Dvorak and Schmaltz from Arizona maybe. Larkin.

Possibly monitor if Detroit decides to shop Larkin.

Possibly monitor if Chicago shops Toews and is willing to retain.

Eye young centers on teams with an interest in Buch.
24 turning 25. Still a lot of untapped potential. Speed for days, 2 way game, can score goals. Will be the perfect center for our wingers. I honestly could see him blossoming like Mika and Strome have previously.

It costs Chytil, Jones + at the least. Yzerman got a crazy return for Mantha.

Not bad for playin in Detroit.

That's a tough one. It's almost easy to forget how young Zibanejad was, his high draft pedigree and the fact that he was at least a 50 point player (like I said previously, a weird freakin move for Ottawa).

I mean by comparison, Zibanejad was the same age as guys on our team like Howden, Gauthier, Lindgren, Hajek, and less than year older than Barron will be next year.

At 23, he and Adam Graves were the epitome of onward and upward youngish-experienced talent for their respective Rangers generations.

So if you're looking based on age, you're talking the 2016 draft. PLD is a guy in that 50-60 range you hope becomes a 70-80 point guy. That's probably the easiest comparison. I dunno if there's another good match there.

If we include the 2015 draft (24 next season), maybe Strome. Maybe Colin White. Maybe Roslovic. But the first isn't quite in the same boat, we're not dealing with Ottawa for the second, and the third is already doing his thing for the team that acquired him.

If we look at the 2017 draft (22 next season), Glass comes to mind but doesn't quite fit the mold of having the track record under him. Ditto for Mittelstadt. Suzuki? Thomas?

Vegas is a possibility if they find the cap space. I don't see that deal happening with Buffalo. Montreal would need an extension in place before they'd even remotely consider Suzuki or Kotkaniemi.

That's another one that's gonna cost ya. Not as much as Eichel, but still hefty.

Personally, I think he'd be a great fit here with this roster.

Like Chytil or Lundkvist... or Chytil and Lundkvist

I'm gonna guess the opening volley from Lil Stevie is an ask for Kravtsov and Lundkvist, with a moderate add from Detroit.

barf. That’s why you don’t deal with Stevie Y anymore. He has a long track record now of smoking people in trades.

I have absolutely zero interest in trading Kravtsov until we know for an absolute fact how all three of him, Kakko, and Lafreniere pan out. We ideally trade none of them, but in a world in which we probably have to trade one, we have to make sure we trade the worst one.

Maybe.

There are two challenges present for that to happen.

1. Brassard had more term on his deal - multiple kicks at the can so to speak.

2. Aside from turning out unquestionably one-sided, I thought it was a weird deal for Ottawa at the time as well. It didn't feel like a great deal for them at the time, even before it was confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt it wasn't a great deal for them. Having said that, it might be hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice.

With a year left, you're probably look at a first and a young player with decent upside, but not necessarily a blue chipper.
Can they extend-and-trade?

Both fair points. I feel like every time WE have traded with him, we got the short end of the stick.

I dunno, we didn't get the return on Hajek and Howden we wanted. But we also used the assets associated with that deal (space/pick) to sign Panarin and land a kid who is now one of the best defensive prospects in the sport. I think when push comes to shove, our destiny is gonna be pretty okay from that deal.

Callahan for St. Louis actually saw both teams gets to the conference finals with the guy they acquired, with our guy playing a bigger role in our journey.

Chytil for Cirelli kinda feels like a wash for me.
Essentially buying middle6 Selke defense

Can wait for Chytil to develop further and see if he can take on that role. But I truly believe our window opens next season.
