There’s also the Eichel is locked up for 5 more years where mika has a new contract due in a year. And while Mika will probably make less than Eichel, he’ll also be older than when eichel’s deal ends.
OTOH, Eichel will be looking for another long term deal when he is 30; one that will have him locked in when Mika's expires.

Yes, it is true that Kreider is going through one of the worst slumps of his career, and we know that he has always been the definition of a streaky goal scorer.

But, I would bet that there is something else going on here, something that we, as fans, are just not privy to. I wouldn't doubt that he is suffering from some kind of physical issue. He just doesn't look right out there, he looks pained in a way beyond that of a player who is experiencing a loss of confidence. I would bet, that if this is the case, it is not a knee injury but upper body, groin, etc.

Whatever it is, and if it is truly the case, at this critical time of the year, he is, like most hockey players, just gutting it out and playing. It is not serious enough for him to sit it out but his play is has fallen off markedly.

I would tend to give him the benefit of the doubt here. Perhaps we will only find out at breakup day or a few days later when he learn of all the banged up players needing surgery or a serious recovery period.
IDK, this happens every single season.

Did the team get the Johnson&Johnson vaccine?

EDIT: This is the wrong thread. I meant to be in Around the NHL. Can this be moved?

I think Quinn made some adjustments since his quarantine and it feels like the temperature dialed down around here.

The lines have been more stable, and if they do get jumbled he has been more consistent in applying his standards. Kreider to the 4th, Kravtsov getting good minutes with quality linemates for example.

Those were my two biggest gripes, uniform coaching and stable lines. He did it so it is only right to back off and give some credit. Denying that there were issues before is just as silly as refusing to acknowledge the fact that those issues were addressed.
It also helps that the team is winning.

Whether that's happening because of or in spite of his adjustments, I'm not exactly sure. But it did feel like the Rangers were running really, really bad and were losing games and dropping points they should have had in the first 15 to 20 games of the year.

So is the consensus that Howden is the only weak link on the roster ? Lol

watch them protect Blackwell over Gauthier in expansion

We'd be in a playoff spot if Putin weren't such a weenie.
Or if there was even mediocre goaltending in the beginning of the year, or if Mika did not have lingering covid effects for the first 20 games, or if Igor was not hurt for 10 games and the Rangers needed to play with a third string goalie.

Best goal differential in the divison.

best forward in the divison.
Best dman in the divison.
best goalie in the divison.

5th place, most likely going to miss.

How can Quinn sleep at night.
Have you watched this team play against anyone other than Buffalo and NJ? If so you know the answer. I'll give you a hint... it's not all about Quinn.

The Rangers are most likely going to end the year on a serious streak (they're already 6-2-2 in their last 10) and will probably miss the playoffs. Is Gorton going to make the kind of move that empties the prospect and draft pick bin a bit, costs him 2 or 3 good young players they've already invested in, and forces him to move or not resign Strome, Buch and Zib (guys who have not only played great but also have chemistry with guys that will be here to start the season)? You bring in an Eichel and you're pretty much guaranteeing the "new core" is already dismantled by the end of next season. Or does he trust the stars he already has, who's developing (is there any doubt that Kakko, Laff, Chytil, Miller, and Kravtsov won't be better next season?) and supplement this roster with a few smaller deals and the next wave of prospects expected to make the team next year? I think you can sell a Brassard type deal if it meant losing Strome, Buch or even Zib. Sucks, but that's the business. But to basically blow it all up for one player who by some accounts is a pain in the ass and has a bad attitude? I don't know.

I think some posters here are too quick to give up what they already have for some player that checks all their boxes, in a perfect world you swap an older C for a younger, cheaper C sure. But it's not foolproof. Strome isn't perfect, but the guy has done nothing but produce since he got here. And he plays really, really well with Panarin. I get the desire to build an optimum lineup, but I don't think that's a reality. Sometimes what you have is better than what you could have.

I agree with a lot of this...but the pain in the ass and bad attitude by some accounts is questionable. I've never heard any credible sources on that, have you? More importantly, we should focus on his $10M salary for the next 5 years, how we will fit that under the cap, and who we will need to deal for him.

I think I read it here? Someone mentioned it on a podcast I believe.

Some one needs to take the responsibility of combating idiotic and ignorant takes. Can't let the board go to complete hell by allowing the uninformed take over.

I have some red in my ledger. So it's a mitzvah.
Well at least now we all know what’s kept the board from going to complete hell. I’ve often wondered.

But by that time our core wingers will hopefully be far more capable of pulling up a 2nd line center. So we may not need him anymore.

It's been a pipe dream.

They have 7 games remaining vs Buffalo and NJ. NJ has given them trouble, but this will be the post
We have a better shot at the Isles going on a skid and catching them.
I think Hall helps the bruins. Even though he’s been dog shit this year, his speed is a welcome addition to that line up. Krecji or Bergeron defiantly have the passing capabilities to make him a weapon. I’m not sold on another team going to pieces. We didn’t play well and we were in it with the Pens. They are just very well coached and are more experienced at weathering the storm. Same with the isles are Trotz. We really need a teams goaltending to fall to pieces to get in IMO. If they don’t that’s fine I just want them to finish the season on a strong note. Especially the kiddies
