I have no prolem with us walking away from the trade talks if the return turns out to be too much. Let other teams overpay.

There are other centers to pursue.

the point is some are bashing the kid like he's suddenly awful. I'm not overpaying for anybody and very cognizant of this cap.

Even without any clause, are teams really going to be wanting to trade for those player with their contracts, without either major retention or without sending back cap hits neither team really wants? Or do the Rangers have to attach assets they would rather keep to move them?

I mean I don't know for sure, yet usually big contracts to older players seem to only get traded for cap in cap out type deals, at least until they are in the final year of those contracts.

It's going to depend on how they are playing at the time. Trouba will be 30 with 2 years left. Kreider will be 32 with 3 years left. If both players are producing anything similar to what they are doing now I dont see an issue with moving them. Cap will be higher so percentage of cap will be lower.

Now if they are sucking then its potential buyouts for them both or attaching an asset to get rid of them. Obviously not ideal.

Here is the Roster Building thread...

Fire Quinn, Oliver, and Brown. Keep Martin.

Then go from there. To me nothing else matters until those 3 are gone.

CGY and MTL fired their coaches. Its time to get an experienced coach in here. I dont know for sure who that is, but something needs to change here. It needs to change not just for the rest of this season, but for the future of this organization.

According to my calculations we’re about 2 months and a Sullivan firing away from Quinn being gone

Slow and steady wins the race lol

One could only hope. I would love to have Sullivan. But really at this point I would take any experienced coach with a proven track record.

We know what we need. A 1C/2C, 3rd pair, and improvement in the bottom 6, specifically the 4th line. But those things can take time.

We need a new coach. We need a new voice. We need someone who can get the most out of his players and the team as a whole. They all too often come out unprepared. They just look sluggish constantly. It just isnt working.

I know some dont want Claude Julien, but I certainly do. He has a winning track record. He gets results. I dont care if he rolls 4 lines. If we get W’s it doesnt matter. The talent of the kids will take over and develop, or it wont. You have multiple 1st round picks. Chytil, Kakko, Lafreniere will either figure it out or they wont. But they need a coach who can teach them how to win. Someone who has been there before.

Alright let me light the world on fire a little bit.

What would you all give up for Larkin, if Yzerman was at least open to taking your call?

I would definitely, I've mentioned him a few times as a guy of love for us to have. Speed, skill and defensively sound. Obviously it would depend on what went back but I really like the player.

Love Larkin. But the Rangers are so inept at center that acquiring him would inevitably lead to disappointment, because he would be viewed as a savior and could never live up to that expectation. Basically the Trouba of forwards.

Theoretically if the Rangers could trade for Larkin and then trade Zib this offseason, their center depth would more than likely be Larkin, Strome, Chytil. With Strome a UFA at years end next season, it MAY allow them to pursue a player like Barkov if the opportunity presents itself OR allow them to pursue and acquire a young center in return for Zibanejad (say Krebs as an example)

Also, let’s cut the talk about anyone “bashing” Eichel.

His cap hit is 10,000,000 USD for the coming 6 years.

You can be against getting someone with a 10,000,000 USD cap hit without bashing the player. The cap will be flat for the coming two years. That is a — tremendous — commitment. If Eichel was a UFA, I would definitely be against giving him 10m per. For the same reason I am definitely against trading for him.

If Buffalo was willing to retain say 3m, it’s a different situation. Then I would be willing to bring up like Chytil and the likes.

But I just don’t think Eichel is a 10m player.

Eichel is a top 5 C in the league. He’s worth Chytil plus a ton more

No he isn't. I got to 7 or 8 centers EASILY off the top of my head before it even got debatable. Eichel has only finished in the top 10 in scoring once, and it was tied for 10th. Other than that, he finished ~25th one year and then had three years in the mid-50s. Surprised? It shocked the hell out of me. The more this rumor has lingered, the more I've looked into Eichel, and I gotta tell you, there are warts all over this kid. People act like he has the value he would have if he'd actually DONE some of the things he would have/could have/might have if not for Buffalo/injuries/bad teammates, etc.

On top of that, his last three seasons, his numbers plummet in the last couple months of the season. I want nothing to do with a career loser whose reputation hides his lack of production and who gives up on his team with two months left in the season while wearing a C. I would rather roll with Zib on a new contract or possibly move Zib for a high end center prospect.

I'd say top10, probably top15.

McDavid
MacKinnon
Draisaitl
Matthews
Barkov
Crosby
Bergeron
Kopitar
ROR
Tavares
Stamkos
Aho
Point
Eichel
JT Miller ( who saw that coming? )

theres no order here, just 15 names. I'm sure I'm missing someone.. I think Zibs was better than Eichel last year.

Your top 7 here, plus Point and Stamkos are 9 where it just isn't a debate IMO. Kopitar, ROR, Tavares, Aho I put on a similar tier as Eichel. I think Miller needs to replicate last season another time or two before he's in that crowd.
