The fact that us winning it multiple times forced a rule change after what Pittsburgh and Edmonton got away with absolutely trucks any silly idea that it was rigged for us.

I think it's being Stevey Y complained that Detroit was 4th. Elliotte talked about it at some point that GMs were not happy about the fact that Detroit got screwed. Less to do with us and more DET.

Chytil is literally the center this team has been in search of for how long now??
You can't trade him.

Zbad on the other hand..Ask yourself this and while he's great when he's on..Do you really want to commit the money it would take to lock him up?
The only deal he's getting is going to be long term so if it were me?
I'd rather opt on the side of caution when it comes to Zbad..

What other options are there?
You really want to gamble on Barkov being available?
As if JG hasn't failed enough at that..

Any big trade needs to be revolved around Zibanejad..
I’m unsure who’s going to offer Mika a long term deal in a place he’ll actually want to move to from NYC but I guess we’ll see. If this crazy down year wasn’t happening I’d say he’s as good as gone but I’m not sure now.

I agree with not moving Chytil but imo that means not getting Eichel. That’s fine by me, but there’s no deal for Eichel around Mika imo.

Lil Stevie recognizing that it helps to gets them blue chippers at the top of the draft.

I mean clearly he would've been just as successful in Tampa without having the top two picks from 2008 and 2009 already in the system.

Kind of like all that success he enjoyed before Scotty Bowman....oh...never mind.
Not to mention every player he ever looked at in Tampa magically became a star. He's a good GM too, but he's not position to complain about his luck.

Isles fan in enemy territory here..... don't turn your team into Buffalo by trading all this stuff for E. Just 1 outsiders opinion.
Yeah, I'm not convinced myself. He's captain of a team where everyone just gets worse and openly nobody gives a shit. It's a bad look.

The current change was implemented after they landed McDavid. It was literally because of Edmonton's "win streak"
Was it? I know won McDavid in some kind of lottery.

Either way, the current change just made things worse and encouraged tanking more. It made every team not in the playoffs a contender for the top pick.

I always thought they should just not have rules and give the first overall to the team with the worst record. Radical idea, I know.

The format was changed in 2014, to a system where all teams that missed the play offs could win. Before that you could only move up 3 spots.

For the 2015 draft they restricted the lottery to just the 1st overall pick, with the 2nd and 3rd overall picks being added to the process starting 2016. As they want to do now, they gradually implemented the new rule.

The current system is LITERALLY the result of Edmonton sucking for half a decade. Let's not pretend that the league hates us and never acted when other teams benefited from an outdated system

They acted but the way they acted was horseshit and made things worse.

And they're now overreacting. That's not to say it's a conspiracy against the Rangers but it's dumb. Nothing has happened recently that was particularly tragic.

F Detroit. The squad they iced last year was Bush league. Yzerman can suck a goat.

We tried, failed, and fate rewarded us. DRW iced a AHL squad on purpose and fate, who is a fickle bitch, pulled the rug out from under them.

The league is doing this because they see how poorly Quinn has been developing Kakko and Laf; they can't allow us to ruin any more top picks. Bettman couldn't be anymore transparent!

By the time this is implemented, if it is, it shouldn't affect the team until the next letter to the fans, hopefully in 10 years.

Not a fan...hate babcock, Mcilrath is useless, Laf probably isnt playing center, Lemieux isn't a top 6 player, why is Kreider on the 4th line? and Blackwell isn't a top 6 player let alone a top 3. Other than that, a home run lol

I would also investigate moving Laf to C .....certainly won't hurt to try if we cannot get a real leader in the middle via a trade . Personally....I would take 4-5 good seasons of Crosby over 6 -8 of Eichel . Crosby the closest thing in the league to Messier when he came here . Might even be better then Messier with our talent on the wings being fed by him .

Crosby is fairly paid with his current salary and we likely can get him with with both our first round picks this season and next and a combo of players like Schneider or Lundkvist or Robertson + Zibs or Strome or Chytil or Howden . Plus likely see one of Buch or Kravtsov go as well . We would lose two current roster players but we would have our #1 C for a trio of Cup runs . The money can be made to work ....might need another trade at some point for somebody the Pens don't take back in a deal like Buch-ZibsChytil .

I don't see Crosby hanging around Pensville losing 45-50+ games a season while they rebuild in the next 4-5 seasons.....losing is not in his nature and if he ever wanted to cement his rep as being equal to or better than Messier....he needs to be in NYC and win a couple of Cups .

Buffalo is kind of like some of those Edmonton teams. All the elite skilled guys but no real leadership. Moving O'Reilly was such a dumb move.

I kind of want to see how Chytil does the rest of the year. We've got 33 games left and if he can put up 20-25 points to what he's already done sitting behind Mika and Strome I think he's on his way. He's really going to have to work on faceoffs though. That said his all around game improved a lot last year.

As far as Eichel the Rangers have excess at some positions--to me dealing some of that wouldn't be a major issue if you got a player you really want at a position you really want. With Eichel though we're also looking at $10 mil per year and a flat cap ceiling for at least two more years and maybe longer. If we're thinking of some day locking up Fox, if we're thinking of some day locking up Lafreniere, if we're thinking of some day we might want to lock up Kakko that's a problem.
Eventually we may have to move on from some of the excess at our D positions and it may be in 2 or 3 for one deals where we target a certain player. It's best I think if it's cap workable. I'm kind of thinking Eichel won't be.

On Mika--his contract comes up in a flat ceiling year after two successive flat ceiling years. My guess is even if he rebounds this year and/or next year there is not going to be a lot of money out in the free agent marketplace--I think for players coming up in his free agent year pickings are going to be slim and most of them aren't going to score big contracts.

I agree...except it may not be their decision. Bigger stage?
Possibly Bob....but the lure of playing in the sun has to have some merit ...golf year round and such....and the tax advantage offered by Florida ? ....but as you have said... guys like the big stage as well and the New York City after hockey scene is likely also pretty attractive as well along with the young up and coming club he can play with and win !

I actually think Lafreniere and Kakko are showing very good signs this year. In Lafreniere's case he really didn't play any hockey for almost a year and then he's going from Rimouski to the Rangers. That's a big leap considering all that time off. As the season has progressed he's looked better and better.

Kakko's game is much better as well. Last year our D was a lot worse and his defensive play was pretty awful. This year it's significantly better and really he should have more points than he does. He's not had a lot of luck.

You also underestimate just how dynamic DeAngelo was at running the PP. He was darting all over the place, keeping the puck in the zone. He would also shoot from the point.
Lets face it...we were a harder club to beat when we had Tony around even with his defensive lapses . But...that is how she goes and in the rear view these days .....unless they get him some help and he comes back LMAO...crazier things have happened ! Maybe the next coach would /could handle him and actually value him ....who knows ? It's been a crazy year...anything goes .
