Really have to tred carefully with Eichel imo. Adding 10M and giving away some of the guys who are supposed to cheap contracts to balance the big money guys is going to be dicey.

I also hate the idea of trading Chytil then letting Mika walk. Again, going to need to trade more assets to get decent center depth.

Eichel will cost a lot in many ways and I’m not sure he’s worth it given his lack of defense and leadership.

I'm off the opinion that Eichel and what it would take to get him plus his contract hit probably isn't worth it. I'm doubtful the Sabres will choose quantity over quality, they'll need a face for their franchise on this deal. Personally I'd rather target a young center on a controlled contract, Hayton, Lavoie, etc. Guys that might cost us a lot less trade and cap wise, a Brassard for Zib type deal

Conventional wisdom would say the Rangers aren't too concerned with their bottom six. It's getting their top six firing on all cylinders, and healthy that's a focus.

Having said that, I know they are at least eyeing some third/fourth types who might be available.
We have room for more? Unless Howden Gauthier or PDG is getting moved idk where we have the space. Along with Lemieux Rooney and Blackwell already.

Can we please add Bennett to strengthen our depth and then go from there.

After that we can think about Jack Eichel. Or another Center. Dvorak? Keller? Whatever other options might be out there. Could they pry Horvat out of Vancouver? Would we consider JT Miller again (not his biggest fan because of his defensive and mental lapses with the puck).

But I still want Bennett and even Derek Ryan as well to improve the bottom 6 and Faceoff %.

I just don't see Mika being the 1c on a cup winning team. Not sure what we do at center. Eichel and Barkov are the only options imo.

Mika / Kreider / Trouba / Strome / Buch / DAngelo / Brenden Smith (exp deal)...someone (or 2) has to be part of a deal to make the $$ work. Would the Sabres really want any of them as justification for trading the face of the franchise? Their new GM has been with the organization for years, and they just anointed him last summer. This is the kind of decision that gets you fired.

The sweetener would have to be pretty sweet, and it isn't Filip Chytl in my opinion.

Its just not going to happen unless Kreider starts scoring three a game for a couple weeks or they LOAD draft capital or a piece like Kakko (which the Rangers won't do).

I just don't see it happening. Would love to be wrong, because Eichel is a perfect fit.

And the Eichel Money doesn't bother me at all. You 100% put elite money into elite centers. And he's young, no injury, you have his prime and he's a #1 piece for sure. Would be incredible.

Last year Mika - no problem.
This year Mika - problem.

He was never going to duplicate last years production. If he played at that pace all year he would have had a 59 G, 49 A = 108 P season.

In all likelihood if he returns to form we should expect 2018 Zibby (30 G , 44 A = 74 P in 82 games). That's what I expected this season anyways. Something you can win with but obviously would prefer a McDavid, Eichel, Barkov, Point, Matthews etc

It's very, very hard to move Zibanejad before securing Eichel. If indeed that is the desired path. For that to happen I think we'd have to see at least 2, if not 3 of the following:
1. Strome continues a very high level of play heading up to the deadline and the Rangers feel like they can use him as a realistic buffer option through next season.
2. Chytil picks up where he left off and shows he's a viable top-six center
3. The piece the Rangers get back in the Zibanejad trade can step in immediately as a 3C with room to grow.
4. The Rangers are comfortable with Chytil and the center they got for Zib as their top two centers for the near future.
5. They feel like there are trade options that are attainable beyond Eichel in the event that they can't get him. (Monahan, Lindholm, etc)

That's a pretty tall order. Plus keep in mind that the reason that Stone got a piece like Brannstrom in the trade was because he signed an extension immediately with Vegas. Zib can't do that until next season and that may limit his overall value to a team.

They can shortcut all of this if they don’t think signing Zibanejad to a long term deal is in the future.

The way the Sabres are playing now... are they entertaining offers? or is this still an offseason thing?
