I REALLY, REALLY like Bennett for this team. He's still my go to target.

Other than that... the market looks hella dry. Not many good partners out there.

Maaaaybe Arizona if they go firesale trying to dump salary. We have prospects/cheap talent

I've been on this train for a bit too as far as Bennett. I'm curious what his salary expectations would be on his next deal. Maybe a nice 3-4 year deal around $1.75m per season or a 1 year prove it deal for that same amount.

The amount of talk about a run of the mill overpaid 4th liner in Sam Bennett is really something. He's no better than like Phil Di Giuseppe who we already have and is cheaper. And Di Giuseppe actually hits even more than Bennett.
Is that what your analytics tell you?

What do they say for the playoffs?

I don’t know man, I feel bad for them. They’ve been shit for so long, you look at their history, the Brett Hull goal, then early 2000’s they have a good team again and their top 2 centers leave in free agency and they fall apart and have been shit ever since. And then finally they get a top pick who’s good and he wants out because the team is shit. I’m not laughing at them, I feel awful for them having to endure this.
Plus, they all live in Buffalo.

mid a trade happens I actually think it’s Tony D , Howden, PDG for Bennett and Ryan w retention

I’d still take Bennett over PDG

Lundkvist for Frost
Lundkvist for Hayton
Lundkvist for Krebs
Lundkvist for Newhook

which one? and which one is more likely? or none of the above?

wow. PDG and Bennett are not comparables. Bennett has some puck skills; PDG does not. He forechecks, he skates. Once he gets the puck, not good.

I could be mistaken but he only looks at graphs and charts to make decisions about players

Might be an AI without NHL.tv

It's probably the same with all fanbases. Most people hoped to get a lot more for McDonagh.
True, although McDonagh returned a fair amount. Paired with a struggling mid 20s player with potential but seemed to be on the borderline of too late to figure it out (Miller) they returned a decent pacakge on paper:

-First round draft pick
-Second round draft pick (would've become a 1st if Tampa won the cup that year or the next)
-Player who was Tampa's recent first round pick or their own
-Solid D prospect that both teams thought very highly of
-25 year old middle 6 forward

That's a pretty good haul on paper at least. The issue is the 3 players in the deal didn't live up to what they could've been.

If you make this deal with another team and they have a better former first rounder and a better solid D prospect and a better youngish middle 6 forward this could've been a home run. Instead we got Howden, Hajek and Namestnikov.

It we turn the mirror on us and we constructed this package for another team right now the players would look like this: Kravtsov instead of Howden, Zac Jones instead of Hajek and Ryan Strome instead of Namestnikov.

My only interest in Bennett is if it’s for Tony. Bennett is better than nothing

aside from that no real interest in him

Fire DQ and hire Babcock.

Move Laf to center.

Trade a 3rd to LA for Boko Imam.

Deal Strome for a draft pick.

Bring Kravy back from the KHL.

I would only do the last one but honestly we shouldn't be trading Lundkvist, all signs point to this kid being legit

he absolutely is legit. Unfortunately we need a legit center and the organization is pretty strong at RHD.

Our future at Center is bleak. Theoretically, Chytil can be the only center left in 2022, if Zibs overprices himself. I do not see a world where Strome is here, unless he takes a similar salary.

I’m thinking we trade Zibs with 2 mil retained for Newhook and then go out and get Eichel in a package around Kakko and leaving Chytil out. Gives us the dough to resign Buch as a result as well. 2022 C depth will be Eichel/Chytil/Newhook/Blackwell (I suspect we lose Howden to Exp Draft)

fantasy would be Hayton or Newhook. None will happen. I’m definitely not trading him to Philly

Yeah, it gets worse once carolina is back in it. We don't have a good team now and this isn't even going to be the team that wins anything anyway yet. It takes time, and luck, and good coaching.
There are a lot over very young players who will get a lot better. Sure the pessimist can predict that Laf and others don't become stars. I'll stay more optimistic than that. Yes, this is not a winner now, but the pieces are here, or on the way, to jump this team up. Boston, Washington, Pittsburgh are getting old. The Isles, meh. Devils are behind us. The east will be turning over sooner that later.

It's amazing to me how many have given up on the rebuild already. Claiming it a failure or predicting failure.

Babcock would be a terrible hire unless you want to give our players long term mental health issues down the line
