Would rather Draisaitl. Wouldnt cost as much as McDavid.

But dont see either as viable with the package each would require.

Also, unless EDM completely collapses, they will make the playoffs in that division

Strome isn't going to be it, and next year isn't their year. They should be "ready" in 2 or 3 years to make playoffs and win a round in their division (look at the teams ahead of them). By ready I am talking about the natural, typical progression of who they have now that are young and cheap (Kakko, Fil, Laf, Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Igor). Kreider's contract is a bit of a handcuff, I like Buch and would rather him long term but what can you do.

They got their super/borderline with Panarin locked up, so that's cool, but I just don't see Jack being the guy that letting go EITHER (and god FORBID both) of Kakko and Fil will make them better for runs. They will be on a constant rush filling in with plugs.
3 years to win a round? That pretty pessimistic. They aren’t keeping this division setup forever

I REALLY, REALLY like Bennett for this team. He's still my go to target.

Other than that... the market looks hella dry. Not many good partners out there.

Maaaaybe Arizona if they go firesale trying to dump salary. We have prospects/cheap talent

I don’t know man, I feel bad for them. They’ve been shit for so long, you look at their history, the Brett Hull goal, then early 2000’s they have a good team again and their top 2 centers leave in free agency and they fall apart and have been shit ever since. And then finally they get a top pick who’s good and he wants out because the team is shit. I’m not laughing at them, I feel awful for them having to endure this.

Rangers may have cap space in the upcoming offseason, but Igor, Fox, Kakko, Buch, Chytil, and Mika are set to have new contracts by the end of next season, with some after this season and the others after next season. Laf and Mantis will need a new one the year after. I have no idea how we can afford all of them. if we’re getting Eichel, I don’t see a workd where we also keep Mika unless Mika’s game falls off so bad that we get him at a massive discount and he ends up being a middle 6 center.

It’s great to have such a young team early on, but the cap is gonna get extremely complicated once we’re ready to be competitive.

Well it's very unlikely we'll be locking up everybody right away. Unless Kakko really starts producing numbers next year he's probably going to get a shorter term deal which is the way I believe Chytil will go. Igor will probably get longer term because he's already 25 but if he doesn't take the Rangers into the playoffs I don't think we'll be breaking the bank with him. Mika's season puts his next contract in some question and I wouldn't break the bank for Buchnevich. He's a good player but has always been inconsistent and is not a guy who can drive a line.

Right now Fox is the one guy I think you'd might think about locking up. That said we could give him a two year deal and then lock him up in his third contract. He's only 23 and he doesn't want to play for anyone else.

A thing to keep in mind--we're also talking a flat cap for at least the next two years and maybe beyond. Other teams are going to be having these same issues and moving big contracts (most teams have them) is going to be nigh on impossible. The talk about moving Trouba for instance--first off I don't think the Rangers want to but the contract he has is going to be tough to fit in for most teams.

As time goes on, I'm beginning to really doubt that Mika is long for this team. The health issues and this years lack of consistency have to really raise some questions. He's a center, so he'll get paid but I'm not sure that I want to be the guy giving him a 6 or 7 years deal.

I always thought Buchnevich was destined to be dealt, but he may stick around after all. Sadly, the CK deal might be the straw that gets him dealt when you factor in all of the other potential wing contracts.

Yeah, it gets worse once carolina is back in it. We don't have a good team now and this isn't even going to be the team that wins anything anyway yet. It takes time, and luck, and good coaching.

Fun stuff from the Trade Rumors Forum:

"buffalo isn’t taking back an older player...buch is of lityke value to buffalo.

More likely cist...kakko/Laf +Fox/Schneider, chytl, Georgev and 2 1sts

you can’t get Eichel with disposable spare parts."

Lol, that is some funny shit right there!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

They value Fox equal to Schneider.....?

Mantis?

I hate to point this out but we would honestly be saying the exact same things if it was us trading someone like Eichel. I can't imagine how hard it is to basically watch 8+ years of rebuilding work amount to absolutely nothing, faced with the prospect of having to do it all over again with one player to really show for it in Dahlin.

Granted, they are simply delusional and will get maybe half the value they want.

f*** look how much we wanted for TDA who turned out to have, like, half that value at best.

They have every right to feel that way. But at the same time, I am sure some of them realize they have to slam on the breaks and say this is not working. How long does this go on for with Eichel being unhappy and the team sucking? Do you ignore what Eichel is feeling and you drag this out for another year? 2 years? 3 years? Each year he gets older his value goes down a bit because with each year other options might emerge on the trade market plus less years of control for the team that would acquire Eichel.

So whatever they settle for today or in the offseason may not be what their fans hope for, but it will be even less if they do nothing and drag this out because of pride.

I don't disagree but it's harder to put this into practice when night in, night out Eichel is a glaring part of the solution and not the problem.

Buffalo is just a cancerous organization. They certainly tried to bring in players, they tried to bring in a strong supporting cast. It just failed miserably. I think we can stomp our feet that "eichel is sad and wants out just trade him" all day, it doesn't make it more realistic. he's the best asset buffalo will likely have for the next 10+ years.
