Capfriendly hasn't updated their interactive expansion tool to reflect Geertsen, but I would assume he will qualify. Then again, so will Bitetto and I can't see us protecting him, so ?

I’m not sure on how many bodies need to be exposed. Maybr Hajek hits the number too but at this point he’s protected . They should upgrade that spot

Depends on

1) How Zibanejad ages
2) What Zibanejad earns
3) Whether Eichel steps up his effort for us.

Say we move Zibby and Strome goes too. Then NYR have zero all-situations centers. Neither Eichel nor Chytil kill penalties.

Assume Mika finishes this down season with around 30 points in 56 games, and scores 70 in 80 next year. You're talking about probably a 5-6 year, 7-8 million dollar contract for a almost PPG center who can do everything, as opposed to trading a boatload of cost controlled assets for a one-dimensional PPG center who makes 10 million a year.

So a lot of it comes down to how we think Zibanejad will age, and whether Eichel really is the kind of player you want to trade the farm for so he can be our captain and lead us to a cup.
After this year, count me as having serious doubts about Mika aging well. Even without Eichel I don't think you can trust Mika on a 6 year contract. Also I don't hate Strome as much as some others.

Like I said the issue is not including Chytil or a Buch or a Lundkvist in a deal for Eichel. In a vacuum, you make the move and do not look back. The possible issue is that the aftermath looks like right after you push the button to make that deal. And what it means moving forward. There are various cost to consider. The cost in assets to acquire him. The cost in dollars of having him count $10m against the cap for the next 5 years. The cost in dollars or assets in replacing parts in the lineup that now having gaping holes. The cost in now building around an Eichel a team that can make a playoff push.

Make no mistake. In making such a deal, there is no more rebuild or even build. There is win now.
They have 18M or so more to spend starting next year. (Dead money + Smith + ADA). They can add Eichel without a sweat. Then when you move Mika you have his salary - whatever player(s) you bring in. That will still leave money for 2nd contracts for younger players.

Hajek would have to play a good number of games still. Bitetto qualifies. We only need to expose one that qualifies.

OK, but now they will be left with one center, Eichel, at 10m of whatever. Who are they signing? Landeskog? Seriously, team needs balance and balance in the cap era happens when you control players at very young ages throughout their prime years on cheap contracts. They are not in a position to do that yet.

This team is really soft (93,16,21,12,20,20,27,23,89,72,) The rookies and 2nd year players get a pass. The other half can’t skate or pass to save their lives. 48 can’t skate well enough to keep up in a beer league. We need 3-5 truly gritty tough guys that will fight anyone and that will not allow the other team to run our best players. Every game 23, 55, 16, 93, 89 and 10 have our opponents take runs at them at least dozen times a game. If we truly had 2 tough guys that would kick some ass and threaten to run the other teams best players. Kreider is a and doesn’t stick up enough for himself let alone his teammates. Boston is a case in point 53 took runs at everyone and his whole team backs him up. If the Ranger just decided to have back to back line brawls the bruin would stop. Even if they took there lumps it would send a message.
Major overstatement.

Strome is still here. See what you can get for Mika or with assets you get from Mika. Deals don't need to be one for one.

Strome isn't going to be it, and next year isn't their year. They should be "ready" in 2 or 3 years to make playoffs and win a round in their division (look at the teams ahead of them). By ready I am talking about the natural, typical progression of who they have now that are young and cheap (Kakko, Fil, Laf, Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Igor). Kreider's contract is a bit of a handcuff, I like Buch and would rather him long term but what can you do.

They got their super/borderline with Panarin locked up, so that's cool, but I just don't see Jack being the guy that letting go EITHER (and god FORBID both) of Kakko and Fil will make them better for runs. They will be on a constant rush filling in with plugs.

Fun stuff from the Trade Rumors Forum:

"buffalo isn’t taking back an older player...buch is of lityke value to buffalo.

More likely cist...kakko/Laf +Fox/Schneider, chytl, Georgev and 2 1sts

you can’t get Eichel with disposable spare parts."

Lol, that is some funny shit right there!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Those are the kind of posts you save for when the real trade is made, and watch them walk it back

Bringing proposals from rival or main boards here is like smearing shit on the walls and leaving for the weekend.

We really need El Jeffe to rob the Sabres so we can shove it down their throats for the next 10 years they spend rebuilding for insulting us with these trade proposals.

Tell they'll get the Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon, late 1st package... literally. Not the framework, literally those players.

The Sabres will come out with a good package for Eichel regardless of where they move him.

Sabres fans want the other team to be robbed blind for Eichel, which just isn’t going to happen. Which I understand because if I was in the same spot I’d want a robbed blind package for my superstar center

Did he mention his team couldn’t beat a Ranger team missing 20-25 percent of its lineup and top players? Or did he avoid/forget that?

If he wanted a battle royale we should have brought ADA back in.
The whole post game jibber jab struck me as odd. They were stoked they won a fight, and are taking the loss as a big confidence builder.

I kinda feel for the Buffalo fans although I do my best to make them feel like shit. They’re real hockey fans and their franchise has been turned to crud because it’s the vanity project of a billionaires 2nd wife.

We have a schmuck owner too but at least he’s put aside his daddy issues and nose spoon long enough to hire real hockey people to run things.
