I’d be very surprised if a move for Eichel happens in season. If it happens it’s going to happen this summer prior to the draft

The Rangers will know where their 2021 pick is at that point, and can make an offer accordingly.

The rest of this season I’d be looking to move anyone who isn’t a long term guy. Try and dump Strome at the deadline, see if anyone bites on Smith for a mid round pick.

Buchnevich you hang onto for now, you’re gonna need him the rest of this year and I think he may be part of a package for Eichel.

Trade DeAngelo for anything that isn’t a shit contract and go into the summer with cap space and ready to make a deal

Very good chance Eichel ends up being a Ranger, just a matter of when. I think how the team does the rest of this season will dictate the when. If they are out of the playoff picture by the TDL then there is no rush to add him in season. If they are in the playoff hunt then maybe it’s worth looking into Buffalo’s interest especially if they continue the way they are playing. Buffalo might just say “We can’t win with Jack Eichel in our lineup, we might as well start our rebuild now and get what we can for him and add some depth to our team.”

I don’t think Zibanejad will waive his NMC to go to Buffalo so for cap purposes it’ll probably be something like:

Strome
Buchnevich
Georgiev
Robertson
1st Rounder
3rd Rounder

Don’t think this is the deal that gets it done but this should be the basis.

Rangers aren’t gonna trade Lafreniere, Kakko, Fox or Shesterkin. Miller and Chytil are probably close to untouchable but one might have to be included to seal the deal.

that’s a deal I’d offer and it would be absolutely awful for Buffalo.

I'm sorry, I don't buy into the rumors that ADA choked out Georgiev and then turned his rage onto K'Andre.

Jeff Gorton. On the record

“I had spoke to him at that time and said: ‘Listen, if there’s any more issues here, the time is going to come where we’re going to put you on waivers and move on. No more issues. If your name is in anything at all that we have to hear, we’re going to move on,’" Gorton recalled. “I made that statement to him, something happened and I pretty much have to stay true to my word here and the organization’s word that it was time to move on.”

Also saying he was never able to move on from being benched in Game 2, and became a locker room problem

I'm sorry you don't believe this. But its getting tired that you keep trying to misrepresent why where we are where we are.

The only person to blame for Tony DeAngelo's current situation is Tony DeAngelo. It's not Rangers management's fault that he refuses to conduct himself in a professional manner.
this situation hurts the rangers far more than it hurts TDA. that’s why I’m so annoyed about it. the rangers handled the situation absolutely atrociously across multiple steps. it’s like a multiple choice test where there’s always that one comically bad answer among the 4 and over the course of 5 questions the rangers picked that comically bad answer each time.

To trade Eichel, the Sabres need to find a team that:
1. Can absorb $10m per year in a flat cap period
2. Is willing to dish out $10m per year and a $7.5m SB in 2022 in a rough economic era
3. Has a need for a center of his caliber
4. Is willing to surrender the assets needed to make the deal

That narrows the field way, way down. If they opt to focus on getting a blue chip center prospect back, that limits their market even more. I think @Alluckks nailed it in his post with the dollar/cents analogy. Do they want a dollars worth of value in return or do they really want that 50 cent piece because it seems like a bigger get even though they're actually getting 80 cents on the dollar when all is said and done?

LA isn't parting with Byfield. Anaheim isn't parting with Zegras. We're not parting with Laf, Kakko, Fox, Miller, or Igor. The market will set the price, not the Sabres. The more requirements they set the smaller that market is going to be.

I'm leery of making such a big splash given the ripple effects it might have on the team and it's future. My personal preference is to find complimentary centers for our winger group but those players actually need to be available for that to work. Adding a guy like Dvorak to this group would be a great move, IMO, but if he's unavailable then it's all moot. The Rangers have to improve their center group somehow and the more Zib's slump drags on the less inclined I am to commit to him long term.

I believe all that, but being assaulted by a teammate isn't an issue that DeAngelo should have been punished for. The real punishment is to the organization and the fans. One of our most valuable assets was reduced to little value because of FO's inability to handle the complicated situation that DeAngelo created.

That's their job- to handle complicated situations in a way that minimizes damage to the organization.

What’s even funnier is the team has been trying to move him for a while prior to the incident, but hasn’t been able to

but yeah it’s the Rangers fault Tony destroyed his value

TDA has a significant cap hit. the rangers are in no rush to free up cap space. even if they retained 50% with a trade, it’s quite a bit more than they’d be paying if they bought him out in the offseason, even if the dead cap is over 2 years. so unless there’s a really good deal that would be worth the extra we’d pay over buying him out, its better for them to buy him out. ideally we’ll trade his full contract, but that would have to wait until the offseason. and in a flat cap era right now, things become complicated in season.

The contract is a detriment right now, no doubt. If he was making half that he would have been moved by now

but the Rangers were trying to move him prior to him signing that deal and nothing materialized

so that should tell people that whatever “great value” they think Tony had, wasn’t actually there.

This ***possibly*** could be because he was top five in league scoring among D and the Rangers wanted a substantial return for a top-five scoring, RHS PPQB D. I dunno...

The package for Eichel is going to be Kravtsov, Strome, Zach Jones, and the Rangers 2021 1st (going to be between 8 and 15th overall) and Buffalo is going to like it.
Been saying for a few weeks now my guess at an actual deal would be Kravs + one of Robertson/Jones/Schneider + 2021 1st (top 3 protected) + 2022 1st + a next tier prospect. Whoever needs to go for salary reasons goes as well (Strome is the most likely). So I'm overshooting yours by a 2022 1st and a B prospect.

Or because Tony’s value wasn’t actually that high. Which is what was said multiple times by vetted posters

but we know you don’t believe anything unless Jeff Gorton is looking directly into the camera talking to you and saying it’s so

so what’s the point on continuing this conversation?

Judging by the fact that no one was willing to trade for him even before this shows how little value he actually had despite his on-ice play.

Gorton gave him the ultimatum, so he knew the score. This is them handling it. They tried the diplomatic approach and it hadn't worked. If we're really talking about holding our players to a higher standard, Gorton has to enforce it. Do we really want a lax structure that lets players dictate their own terms? This is how you get that country club atmosphere.

We don't know the exact situation. It sounds like Georgiev went for him. From the accounts we've heard, he made comments to Georgiev that provoked him. Yes, people can talk freely, but it must be a tense room if a comment is enough to kick this off.

A guy like that in any workplace would be facing repercussions. It destroys morale and affects everyone. That guy would be gone sooner rather than later. Hockey is no different. I do not feel in any way ripped off or punished. I'm glad they're taking a stand.

Even Kreider's?
Everyone brings up the kreider contract, and it’s not that bad on its face. Is it for probably a year too long? Sure, but he took less money than comparables in ufa so yeah he got a nmc

The idea that ada was somehow a super valuable piece in the off-season is a laugh.

Every team in the league knew about his defensive incompetency and his attitude problems

He may have been worth something more for sure but this wasn’t some golden egg that we flushed down the toilet

Have you watched very much of Eichel? Your takes on him are... interesting
The guy is literally right up there with McDavid, Matthews, Draisaitl, MacKinnon. I can't believe some of the posts I'm reading about him from our fanbase lol
He has a great shot. He’s great for highlight videos and fantasy. He’s not a player you win with in his current form. I would question his playoff success but he’s never been there. I also don’t think he’s in that tier of players.

i don’t want a regular season fantasy team. I want a team that will win a cup.

We need complete 2way centers, not Jack Eichel.

Laf Kakko Fox and Igor should all be untouchable. Moving any of them is a massive mistake
They are all untouchable. Probably Miller gets thrown into the same category. Or is at least nibbling at the edge of that group and will make it in shortly.

That's a good package, but I don't think that gets you Eichel.

I would be very surprised if Eichel was traded to the NYR without one of LaFreniere or Kakko as one of the main pieces.
That would never be the package. There is no chance that Lafreniere or Kakko is included. You have a better chance of DeAngelo returning to the team as a center.

Given the cap room we have due to injuries, I'd claim Filppula as a depth third line C that could mentor Kakko. $3M, expiring contract.

Simon is on waivers too. 700k, expiring contract.
