Ryan Strome Media Availability | Feb. 22, 2021

On an unrelated note, its really strange how both Ryan and Dylan, while both having a rather distinctive look, look absolutely nothing alike.

edit: i just looked up the other Strome, Matthew:

are these guys even related? Were they adopted?

All joking about his play aside, Ryan Strome deserves credit both for his improvement in play and his composure and insight in interviews.

His penalties and inconsistency are infuriating but we’ve had much worse placeholder players over the years.

Just wish we had only given him the one year at a time

uh, we're gonna need that extra year. We have zero centers in the pipeline

I would explore a Zibanejad deal to Montreal to try to solve this. They are in super win now mode. Would try and get Danault (whose extension will cost less than Mika’s) and get Kotkaniemi/Poehling/other pieces that aren’t on the same timeline as the Habs back as the return. Rough idea I am working on. Danault is a good 2C who doesn’t break the bank (relative to Mika and other targets) and would still leave plenty of futures. To try to get another center too. Still needs some work but am thinking about it.

On the one hand I would really be wary on selling low on Zibanejad, on the other hand, f*** it

I was pleased with Chytil's start to the season, but I get the broader point.

If NYR trade for a center without moving ZIbanejad though, you're going to have a full season of Strome at RW in all likelihood.

thats fine. I don't hate Strome as much as most people here, although he can be quite frustrating. We traded a guy who flamed out of the NHL in less than a year for him, still a massive win even if he's not the ideal 2C

Unlikely to be more of a liability at RW than at C.

I get how winning or losing a trade can stick with the way that players are perceived by fans. At some point, the player has to suit up and get on the ice, where it makes zero difference whether the trade that acquired said player was a win or a loss.

Ya, I wouldn't even be mad if they did make Strome the captain for the next 14 months

This reminds me of a joke I heard years ago.

A man on his death bed is visited by his wife and 4 sons. The oldest 3 are huge, over 6'4", broad shoulders, athletic build, and the youngest is a scrawny kid with glasses, 5'7".

The man asks his kids to leave the room and he asks his wife "My love, I don't want to leave this world without knowing so I hope you can answer this question. I've always wondered. The youngest son, is he mine"?

His wife takes his hand, looks him in the eyes and says "Yes my love. With my hand on my heart, I can say he is your son"

The man breathes a sigh of relief and says "Thank You" before he passes away.

His wife looks up at the nurse and says "Thank God he didn't ask me about the other 3"

I had the pleasure of meeting him two years ago. He is a delightful and intelligent man who gave me very thoughtful answers to my questions.

Back to hockey for a moment....Friedman on 31T today saying that he believes that Treliving has made the decision that its time to shake things up in Calgary.

Apparently there was a meeting after the Tkachuk/Muzzin puck flip game and that it "went sideways", some of the guys are annoyed with how Tkachuk seems to start stuff every game. He says that "that group isn't playing for each other" and that Treliving is taking calls on many other guys other than Bennett, they're looking to break up the core.

@Edge - Not sure if you've heard anything recently.

well have you seen their mom during the Mom's week last year? I wouldn't mind being their stepdad
