What makes Lindgren Girardi? By this logic no defenseman should be allowed to be around a team long term
There’s a difference between puck moving offensive guys, very big strong defensive guys and smallish defensive guys who get by by sacrificing their body and throwing themselves in front of pucks and bigger players.

Shesty should be at the bottom of the list of any untouchables.

We live in a world were Braden Holtby, Jordan Binnington, Marc Andre Fleury and Matt Murray have led their teams to cups.

Having an excellent goalie is great and I'd rather keep him, but you can win with slightly more than competent at the goaltending position. You cannot win with slightly more than competent at either D or F.

I look at it from a perspective of how many cup contenders’ chances have been ruined by sub-par goaltending.

It’s funny you mentioned Holtby and Fleury. The point - each of these two caused their teams probably two Cups each, Holtby more so.

If the eventual plan is to go big game hunting for someone, be it Eichel, Barkov or other, and assuming guys like Robertson and Lundqvist would be desirable pieces, I’d be okay with grabbing Ekholm, DEPENDING ON THE PRICE, as a veteran presence who can play top-4 and absorb some tough minutes for the next 3-4 years.

The price would have to be something like:
Hajek + Howden + Prospect

Lol people already souring on Shesty?
Guy has a career 2.32 GAA & .928 SV%
He is the KHL record holder for basically every statistical category
He’s the only one of our top end prospects who’s lived up to the hype yet, maybe we were too spoiled with Lundqvist and take elite goaltending as a given, and some are pessimistic about the fact we didn’t win a cup with Hank.

Yup, this career consistency thus far makes me quietly hope that Shesterkin will have just as consistent NHL career as the King. And if Gorton is able to build a better team around the Tsar - having him in the net will allow for multiple shots at the Cup.

Far from souring....we need to add one of the 5 to make a deal for Jack...as I look at the list Igor may be the one who could convince the Sabres to pull the trigger...we need to give up one of the Stud 5 to do a deal. If they play like they did yesterday as a template moving forward most goalies would succeed..

So the Rangers have more than one high-end winger, more than one high-end defenseman but there’s only one goalie prospect of Shesterkin caliber, not just on the Rangers but maybe the the whole league.

We need Shesty to be good enough to be trusted long term but not good enough to get a Lundqvist level payday. It’s really hard to build a team that is deep enough to win it all when you have ~1/6 of the cap allocated to the position.

In other words, it does not behoove you to have your goalie be your best and highest paid player. I prefer the three time all star to the HOFer because of the cap.

Or Gorton does a better job of managing salary cap in general and Shesterkin specifically.

I may be in the minority... I do not give up any of those 5 for Jack Eichel.
Eichel fits perfect with LaF or Panarin. He’s a shoot first young center whose young and signed long term. However, I’m wary to give up major assets for him because like Zibby, he only has 2 goals. His secondary assists are making him look better then he’s currently playing. I think Barkov is the more complete player and better fit for the team we are building, but getting Eichel would certainly be a coup. I think he may be suffering from a shoulder injury as well as low morale. I just want to make sure they don’t spend a ton of draft capital on damaged goods. I really hope Barkov goes to UFA lol

Way too much.
I absolutely think it will cost multiple firsts, even if one is a conditional based on team performance. My thought is Chytil, Buch, one of the prospect Dman, a first and a conditional second that becomes a first. If the Rangers wind up with a top 5 pick this season that could go and maybe replace something else.

Larry B. must be reading the board.

Mika Zibanejad’s disastrous decline raises Jack Eichel question for Rangers

Moving Eichel — and to the Rangers, no less — would create a public relations firestorm in Buffalo. Acquiring a player with both the special qualities and marquee appeal of Lafreniere might allow the franchise to minimize the damage. The Sabres aren’t moving their captain to New York for a handful of expendable part

He is not smallish. You win championships with players like Lindgren

That's about what I'd give up for Eichel. I don't remember players like Kakko, Laf, or Miller ever being moved in trades.

Chytil and Lundkvist will be studs guaranteed. Kravtsov I'm not too sure about. However, as a Ranger fan this is most likely the best package we can come up with without letting Laf, Kakko, Miller or Fox go.

I'm not a fan of trading all these assets for him either way. We are in need of a 1C but do we really want to gut our system? Tough decision to be had for sure.

Why should Shesty be untouchable in any Eichel deal?
Because who else is going to play goal at such a high level? Am I forgetting about a top can’t miss goalie prospect in the system?

The Rangers aren’t including Kakko, Lafreniere, Shesterkin, Fox or Miller in virtually any deal.

Clearly you do not recall the fun years between Richter & Henke.
