The Rangers are 8th in the league in GAA at 2.56
The Rangers are 13th in the league in SV% at .91189%

I expect the save % to improve now that Shesty and Georgiev seem to be getting their games together.

The Rangers are tied for 3rd on the PK at 85.7%
They are tied for 5th in SH goals with 2 (Montreal has 7!)
The Rangers are tied for 11th most times short-handed

The PK has been awesome, but we're still taking too many penalties. If we can cut out the offensive zone penalties, we should be fine.

The Rangers are 5th worst on the PP at 12.9%
The Rangers are tied for 5th most PP opportunities at 62
The Rangers have let up 1 short-handed goal

We're getting plenty of opportunities, but just not cashing in on them. Hopefully they will figure it out.

It's crazy how this team seems to be a complete opposite from last year's team, despite most of the players being the same. We have the offensive talent, so I expect we'll see an improvement as the season goes on. Today's game was a step in the right direction.

Maybe the new defensive system is played it such a way that it sacrifices offense? In general the team looks slower on their transitions than they did last year. Not sure why.

Nashville is shopping Matthias Ekholm and he would be an ideal acquisition for the Rangers. The experienced veteran presence that the Rangers could definitely use on the back end. A very steady player with plenty left in the tank. I have no idea if they would be interested in DeAngelo but I’d still be inquiring. Nice contract ($3.75 MM through 2021-22) that fits the timeline for the arrival of players like Matt Robertson and Zac Jones.

This is a place I’d spend some of my prospect capital.

Too pricey for a stop-gap. If they trade him, he'll go to a contender.

Isn’t Nashville looking to move Ekholm so they don’t have to protect him in the expansion draft?

Can’t see them being interested in Tony if that’s the case

He’s not a stop gap. He has a year and a half to run and he is a good player.

A year and a half, until Robertson/Jones are ready, is a stop gap. He's not a long term solution.

I was listening to NHL radio this morning and they were talking about Ekholm, and what he would cost in trade. They compared him to Muzzin, and said he would cost a similar price to obtain. I'm not interested in trading a 1st + for a guy who will be here for a year and a half and won't be a part of this team when they are contending.

I don't disagree about needing a vet dman, but not at that cost.

Ekholm is good, but I agree, this is not the year to buy at the deadline.

Although we kinda do have a slot open for the expansion draft

he's hurt right now...the experience and leadership would be a nice addition, not a bad contract and he has played the right side. but given the asking price the preds will likely have, our top 4 when healthy and cap situation i'm not sure its a luxury we can afford. going into the year not a question i'm interested but with miller playing so well i'm not so sure...

of course if they want deangelo i'd be all over that but i'm thinking they are moving him to spark a mini-rebuild and will want alot more

I don’t think Ekholm is a bad idea. It doesn’t have to be a stop gap. Robertson doesn’t HAVE to be a Ranger. He can be a trade chip. Going all in on youth and homegrown players never works. A veteran with tons of playoff experience like Ekholm would be worth extending and keeping around, depending on price. I’m a lot less eager than most to plug every hole on the roster with internal guys. I’m fine with packaging more than a few of the prospects to find the RIGHT pieces to compliment what we have, rather than just hoping that the guys in the system pan out AND fill the right niche.

Inject this into my veins

I’ve said it too many times to go into depth, but regardless of where he’d plug in the lineup or any untapped potential, I’d really like Bennett on this roster even if he is just a bottom six guy. I just like his motor and grit, even if that’s all he is.

Maybe grit, but I don't think we're lacking for motor in the bottom 6 at all.

Ekholm is a no for me. Great player, but we're not a top 4 LHD from contending. Unless he magically can be a top 6 center, it's a no from me.

I didn’t say we lack it, I just said I like Bennett’s. I also don’t think we can expect Blackwell, Rooney, et al to maintain this level all year. There’s a reason they’re AHL/NHL tweeners at their ages. They’re running with the opportunity being given right now and in the perfect situation due to our age/depth and injuries. Bennett is much more of a ‘mainstay’ third line type than them, IMO, though I have been more than pleasantly surprised with them this year.
