“I would dump the puck in slowly so that Braden Holtby or whoever the goaltender was for the Capitals had to come out and play the puck,” Avery said, “and I would run through him like a f***ing bulldozer. And that would send a message; that would let the Washington Capitals know that there’s repercussions. When you take out our star player, you’re going to feel it. It’s as simple as that.”

Gotta love Sean Avery
I would love to see Avery get a Head Coaching job somewhere in the CHL if he wanted it.

He's certainly had some success in his career and he has a reputation as a straight shooter. Beyond that, I don't know a lot more.

Legs? Who knows at this point. I'm waiting to see if I hear more so at this point, I'd put him on the list with Gallant, Babcock and others.

It's been years since the Quinn hire, isn't there a talented assistant ready to take the step up? Or is that completely ruled out?

I've seen some talk about Van Ryn (St. Louis). Just because it didnt work with Quinn doesn't mean an assistant who has done the leg work might not be the right guy this time. I'm not very impressed with the recycled dino's. This would be Gallant's (eg) fourth job or something.

Nick Kypreos said on his podcast yesterday that he heard whispers of Babcock possibly being the next coach. Don Maclean said he heard Torts. I dont know how I would feel about that.

I'd be ok with Torts since I assume they would ask Panarin's opinion first and he'd be ok with it if they hired him.

Want no part of Babcock.

Eh, I would rather Knoblauch than both of those two.

I do remember Torts being a big bread fan though. Not sure about him with these kids. It is such a crucial time.

Come onnnn Rod

I like what he has shown to the role you propose for Smith, the things that concerns me is 1) Is this one of those fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me scenarios? Standing up at the end of his contract year.
2) Will he take two years at 1 million? There could be better offers with longer term. Anything more than 2 years is a non starter and anything more than 1.75 mil could end up handcuffing future deals for this team.
Yeah I mean if he wants more money or wants a guaranteed top 6 D everyday spot then I say good luck wherever you end up. But if he’s willing to come cheap and be a 30-40 game a season guy as a 7D then I definitely bring him back.

Don’t want either of them but if it’s between them I take torts 10/10 times.

I have a feeling these guys are just speculating and haven’t heard a single thing.

I'll go on record saying there is ZERO chance Babcock is hired after everything that has come out about him.

Don't see Torts pt 2 either. I think it was Freidman who said Tocchet was unlikely because he was too Torts-esque. If thats the case, then I don't see how they go after the real thing.

Gallant, Julien (who I'd LOVE if this team were further along) or a Hartford staff promotion seem most likely, at least IMO. Maybe Montgomery if they're confident that his issues are behind him. I know Carp tried to add fuel to the fire by saying that Montgomery pulled his name out of the hat for the Rangers coaching position a few years ago because he didn't feel that they'd follow through with the rebuild but thats 100% bull shit. Everyone worth anything at that time, and Larry Brooks, said he wanted to go to a spot where he felt he could compete right away.

Then again, if the Pens get bounced early this year, that whole situation may take care of itself.

Want no part of Babcock.

For all of Torta faults he did bring an atmosphere change to this team after the country club years.

~When he talked about the responsibility of rep'ing an O6 Franchise, that wasn't the typical lip service we get, he meant it.
~Little things like stepping on the team logo in the locker room.
~The way he had tough love for his players, but crucified anyone on the outside who took a shot at them with the exception to the guys who would not "buy in." Which leads to an all-for-one mentality on the ice, so much so it bites him in the butt a few years down the road, but, the unity breeds ethic and wins.

Unfortunately, Vigneault enabled the country club mentality again and it's no hidden fact Nash brought it with him from Columbus, who poetically hired Torts and JD's protege Kekalainen to squash their locker room mess after Nash and that crew were bounced. And here we are today. Questioning the disconnect in the locker room and on the ice and I can't help but not totally blame Quinn. Maybe he wasn't experienced enough or had the panache to turn around the lingering "comfort level" that leads back through Kreider>Nash>Vigneault.

Anyone blown away by the fact that after signing Panarin, picking 2OA, and then picking 1OA, this off-season promises to be the most intriguing of them all? This team delivers on entertainment if nothing else.

yea I’m just waiting for a massive move.
Eichel is the obvious major name but they could surprise. This years 1st may be moved for sure

So what’s too much for Eichel ? I can’t see Laf or Kakko on the table

Chytil , Kravtsov, Jones , 1st?
Strome for salary ?

Larkin for miller, pujaniemi, first

lindholm for lundkvist and a small plus

zibby traded for futures including a first
Strome traded for futures

larkin
Lindholm
Chytil
Barron

down the middle.

would love it

I can't see Yzerman dealing Larkin right after naming him the Captain.

I took that as Yzerman stating that Larkin is building block #1.
