The fact that these developments only occurred when his contract was up tells you everything you need to know about Brendan Smith. If the FO falls for it again, we deserve everything that comes after.

oh, and he sucks even for a 4LD.
Didn’t Kakko basically live with him and his wife last year and drive to every practice and game with him? Smith has assumed a leadership role ever since Quinn has been here. He’s fine as a 3LD and a 7D who have step in when needed. I’d sure as shit rather have Smith coming in for an injured Lindgren than Bitetto or Hajek.

Before Trouba went down and we were exposed, before Smith had to step up and show character, Jim Dolan had already sniffed out the critical deficiency of this rebuild and identified the culprit in descending order: Quinn, Gorton, JD. Was Dolan ahead of this board and is Dolan the best hockey mind in the Rangers organization? Find out next time on Ranger Ball Z.

Throwing a name out there as a top center option: Pierre-Luc Dubois.

rangers were interested earlier in the year and reports are he wanted a bigger market than Columbus. it also hasn’t gone perfectly for him in Winnipeg. History with Panarin is an added bonus

Buch Chytil + for Dubois?

Honestly bud, we all know you are giving us 3 filler episodes before you answer that question. I'll still watch though.

You said the other day someone rumored Drury is interested in Hartley. Does that have legs?

What's your personal take on Hartley?
He's certainly had some success in his career and he has a reputation as a straight shooter. Beyond that, I don't know a lot more.

Legs? Who knows at this point. I'm waiting to see if I hear more so at this point, I'd put him on the list with Gallant, Babcock and others.

Yes, with a bunch of shit on the roster from years of being a budget team.

Forget Zibanejad or Panarin, prime Chris Kreider is as good as anyone they've had.

Not that I'm a Tocchet fan, but Arizona is a worthless litmus test.
I actually thought that once they added Hall last year, they were a definite playoff team. They won the play in round pretty convincingly.

Your post in total is vintage Machinehead.

Guess which one is Dubois, and you think he’s worth those two combined, and a plus on top of that?

Thankfully, our options do not have to be limited to Smith, Bitetto or Hajek. We can hire host families for a lot less than 4 million, and we don’t have to play them.

This is the worst thing we can do to Lundkvist. Smith is tough and can do some offense but he can't defend. Let's find Lundkvist a partner that can actually defend so he can get comfortable before we try to make him carry his partner. I don't mind Smith coming off the bench in case of injuries but the more he plays the worse he gets. He's not an everyday 3rd pairing dman in my eyes. We have the cap this season to sign a veteran LD for just a year or two to buffer some of these young dmen we have.

If they fire Quinn, I dont see how the list doesnt begin and end with Gallant. The only way I see them not going Gallant is if he doesnt want it, or gets a better offer.

Of course it was vintage Machinehead. They're all f***ing great.

They had Hall for 35 games because the opportunity presented itself and made no effort to keep him.

if the cost is less than that even better. He has size, he’s shown good scoring ability and he’s still only 22. Just seems like he’d fill some holes in the roster

. . . took forever to get here . . . and a long time until Oct.

Playoffs should be good though

Flat cap is an issue while the Rangers have a ton of defensive prospects floating an idea;

he’s a UFA after next season but could Seth Jones be the Rangers Captain?

Absolutely. He has been a really good soldier and pretty good player for us aside from the one messed up season after he got the big contract. Reminds me of a guy like Mark Hardy. Just a solid efficient team guy. Having a couple of them is great for any roster.

“I would dump the puck in slowly so that Braden Holtby or whoever the goaltender was for the Capitals had to come out and play the puck,” Avery said, “and I would run through him like a f***ing bulldozer. And that would send a message; that would let the Washington Capitals know that there’s repercussions. When you take out our star player, you’re going to feel it. It’s as simple as that.”

Gotta love Sean Avery

Gotta also love the play of Barron....he looks like a keeper . Pencil him in as a 10 year Ranger . Big and Canadian....we need some more of that in the roster building . Also.....I have never ever heard anything on the Gallant and booze as has been posted in here ....but I'm going to be asking some people who would know when time allows .......I would have to think Team Canada done their homework before hiring him as the face of the National squad for the World Championships ? Will that squad include any Rangers ? Lafreniere ? Strome ? I hope so .

So if I remember gallant correctly, he absolutely overachieved with a roster of “scrappy”, which is fantastic.
But scrappy was full of vets and no rookies/kids.
And once he started getting legitimate talent, Vegas was no longer overachieving and he got fired.
He’s had opportunities at different spots and he hasn’t done well at maximizing true talent, but does a good job of getting production out of second and third tier guys.

I like what he has shown to the role you propose for Smith, the things that concerns me is 1) Is this one of those fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me scenarios? Standing up at the end of his contract year.
2) Will he take two years at 1 million? There could be better offers with longer term. Anything more than 2 years is a non starter and anything more than 1.75 mil could end up handcuffing future deals for this team.

But Nemeth also does that. You prefer Oleksiak because you think he has a better chance of "winning" the fight. That's the part I don't really care about.

Hockey fights are mostly hugging anyway. And I'm not trying to take away anything from the toughness of the players but like, humans were not meant to fight in ice skates and hard plastic helmets.

It's the response I care about. The fights themselves are a bit of a circus.

I miss the circus. Lol

In all seriousness, winning/losing fights is and has always been overrated and this is coming from someone that wishes we had goons patrolling the 4th line on every team.

That said, the toughness that I seek has to be a mindset that everyone has.

Top to bottom.

Initiate contact. Drive to the net with purpose and ill intent. Punish the defenders with heavy hits on the forecheck. Be physical in front of our goalie.

Now that you posted this I see that this is playing out like a Soap Opera. Lol, you should option this to a Canadian network and see who bites? "The Spoiled and the Restless".

I really want to see if Kravtsov can play in the middle today.

He is defensively responsible enough, and it would clear alot of the question marks we have.

I was on the let's get Dubois bandwagon, but I hated how he acted on the way out of CBJ.

NYC would eat him alive.
