Anyone who has played knows the value of a guy who will step up when things get ugly. It makes the group bigger as a whole, players will do things they might not normally do. Its a thing. I don't want a thug who can't play but a guy like Olesiak who can defend, has some offense and can also be an enforcer is the type we should be after, especially after this last week vs the isles and Caps.
But Nemeth also does that. You prefer Oleksiak because you think he has a better chance of "winning" the fight. That's the part I don't really care about.

Hockey fights are mostly hugging anyway. And I'm not trying to take away anything from the toughness of the players but like, humans were not meant to fight in ice skates and hard plastic helmets.

It's the response I care about. The fights themselves are a bit of a circus.

It's not about the simplicity of it, it's simply seeming like a ton of people just generally don't want Eichel, which is crazy to me.

I really don’t think it’s that. It’s what the cost is going to be to get him.

LA is in there. Friedman mentioned Anaheim being in there. There’s going to be a bidding war. LA’s only untouchable is Byfield, they will come offering Turcote in a package.

Are you giving up Kakko +++?

What are the pluses?

Hartley?

for real?

Not sure what to think of him as the prime candidate (if he is) but looking at his history, he won a Cup with Drury, won a Gagarin Cup after working in Russia for a few years. That experience might help with our Russian contingent on the team.

I've heard people talk about Gallant for months but he has the same question marks as Hartley, without the success IMO

So willingness and balance mainly over actual ability to throw a punch (noting that Wilson never has to fight anyone if he so chooses)?
I mean how many 'good' fighters that can go with anyone and actually intimidate, but can also skate a regular shift are there in the league (again, legit question as I don't pay enough attention)?

It comes back to the earlier question conversation about 'toughness'. It seems what we really want is a team that doesn't take a backwards step, and what the team most likely needs is a willingness to go and an understanding that everyone will go when needed. That's not so much a skill as a mindset and an attitude.
Add Trouba, Lindgren, Kreider, call it one more rugged bottom 6 forward (willing but not overly skilled) to the Caps debacle, but alter the mindset rather than the skillet. How far off a tough team are we then?

Add Olesiak and we're closer and we add a good dman for the left side. Yes the actually fighting matters, you can ask players that played about how a tough guy changes the game and how you play it whether they are on your team or the other. The "crazy" aspect has the same effect ie Carcillo, but it usually costs you in pims. I'm advocating for Olesiak because he isnt just a good but can play that role, i dont think anyone is overly worried about Kreider or Lindgren

For all the talent he has, Eichel leaves you wanting more.

For a board that has had a rocky relationship with expectations over the years, I don't think the Eichel relationship would go as well as people think.

I also don’t understand this “someone needs to rescue Jack from Buffalo narrative”.

Why isn’t some of this stink on him?

Oleksiak is going to get a big contract. He is a big guy who played top 4D minutes. Not much production yet he is going to be paid like there was.

His question marks mostly had to do with alcohol abuse that he's since gotten control of.

Exactly. I get it, but like, when you're the generational talent he's billed to be, it becomes your responsibility at some point. McDavid didn't quit on the Oilers. He somehow got even better and improved his defense exponentially. Lundqvist dragged at least one straight-up horrendous Rangers team to the playoffs in 10-11.

To me, Eichel wants easy mode. He wants to go a team that's good enough to take responsibility off of him while he cheats his way to 120 points. We're specifically trying to get away from that.

If it were somebody like Barkov who might have slightly less talent but has carried a franchise, I'd be willing to do it.

I’ve never seen a board slam or look for any negative then can on a proven 40 40+ center who could get better here with more talented guys. The neck injury is for sure a concern, price is definitely an issue I’m not saying get him at all costs, but if he wants out we’d be dumb not to pursue it seriously. Your getting him for 5- 6 years in his prime. The end of the deal takes him to freakin 30 not 35 or 37
Could he fail? Yes or he could take the next step and be 100 pt center here for years. American east coast kid all his life. Proven talent all that. If he comes back from the neck injury and shows no signs of decline I bet the rangers get him by the end of next season or the draft. Not this years draft. The following. He wouldn’t and shouldn’t be a captain here but him and LaF or him and panarin on the same line would be straight filth

Yeah, if Jack Eichel is healthy and also doesn't want to be in Buffalo(who does?), then there is no reason to not pursue him.
