I know the advanced stats people hate him but as a 6th/7th defenseman he's not the worst option. Could even slot in at forward if need be. They could do worse, for sure.
Absolutely. He’s kind of the ideal spare. But of course his price might be too high. I’d offer him 2/4 or so.

If Miller is a centerpiece of a deal to acquire a top center, IDK how you can pass that up. The untapped potential is enticing, but LD isn't exactly the toughest position to fill, as well as the Rangers LD pipeline being deep makes it easier to swallow moving him IMO.

And imo, that list of C shouldn't include Eichel.

That contract would be an cap breaker with Panarin, Trouba, and Krieder.

Wonder if Bob Hartley is someone Chris Drury will consider?

Hartley faced the same issue Crawford and Torts also did after the lockout. They had success with skilled teams during the trap era because they basically took away their teams transition games, but let the talent lose once they got down low. When the redline offside rule was removed and there was a crackdown on clutching and grabbing, it all of a sudden became a key to play a puck possession game. These guys didn’t adopt fast enough.

Hartley is a tough coach, but he got a phenomenal record with kids. It’s not just all those kids in Colorado that came out of nowhere under him, but also guys like Johnny Hockey in Calgary. He worked with Kovalchuk in Calgary.

If he just can adopt to the element that are paying off so much right now in the NHL offensively and with the puck — which are not playing it safe around the offensive blueline but instead making moves with the puck and taking it to the net instead of taking a detour to the corner first and having Ds overload the net — I actually think he could be a good option. If he is stuck with trying to have a team that only can go to the net after getting the puck deep first and playing it safe in the transition game, it’s suicidal and he won’t survive a year.
Was there more to him leaving the nhl than just performance/opportunity?

I am definitely all in on Jake Virtanen if he walks clear in Vancouver from the charges.

Big time pass.

The exact profile of personality that shouldn't be brought into the room if the idea is for a culture change. He's immature at best and a rapist at worst. Innocent until proven guilty, yes, but based on what I've heard about him before the allegations came to be, I'm not at all surprised.

really? That was before inwas born
That's before Killem was born lol

I agree that certain guys are great naturally crazy (like me) but you can definitely get guys to buy in on a certain style of play. That's what coaching is for.

Lundkvist for Reaves (50% retained) and a 3rd round pick

thoughts?

This would be complete idiocy. Trading a top defenceman prospect for a 3rd-4th line tough guy and a mid-round pick is beyond stupid. It's a trade Phil Esposito would've made in the late 1980s. It would be worse than the trade of Mattias Norstrom, Ray Ferraro, Nathan LaFayette, Ian Lapierriere etc. for Jari Kurri, Marty MacSorley, and Shane Churla by Neil Smith.

Blue Jackets don't have the assets to land Eichel, or Zibby for that matter.

Unless they hit the top 3 in the draft.

i dont think u teach toughness. U are born with it. U can teach him to better position himself, but toughness is instinctual. Yes he will get stronger, but that doesn’t mean tougher

I guess it really comes down to how you define "toughness". If it's someone who will just go up to another player completely unprovoked and crosscheck him the mouth, or throw an elbow while moving through centre ice then yeah I probably agree with you. That stuff, to do naturally, is basically hardwired in.

If it's more like playing to the whistle, making sure you finish your checks, stand your ground, protect your teammates; then it can certainly be taught. Because other words that describe all that are resilience, tenacity, fortitude, strength and esprit de corps. All things which can be taught and developed.

They just f***ing had a first line center that their coach wouldn't use. Torts would put Eichel in an urn by November.

Last night, I mentioned that Torts has his strengths, but this is where he loses it. There isn't a center available that he won't shit on.

Nope. Moving Miller, if he is the one to be moved, is about an abundance of riches at D. With Lundkvist, Jones, Robertson and Schneider being NHL worthy soon, and with Lindgren and Fox on the top pair, Miller may be a significant piece for a trade to fill another need (such as a two-way C).

I’d understand the move if it makes sense but I put higher up then all those d you mentioned besides lundkvist. I would move any of them (again maybe not Lundkvist) before Miller if possible. On top of that I think Miller will be better than Lindgren when he’s Lindgrens age.

This team would have some snarl.

1. Hire Hartley

2. Acquire Jake Virtanen from Vancouver for Howden

3. Trade Chytil and Gauthier to CBJ for Boone Jenner and Max Domi

4. Buch to MTL for Kaeden Guhle

5. Acquire Ryan Reeves for a pick

Panarin-Laf-Jenner //Jenner eases Laf’s transition to center. BJ is great on the dot etc. Laf can definitely make the transition and he gives us a No 1 C for the future.

This would be our match-up line. They can play with the puck, they will compete. They are really quick. All will love the challenge.

Kravy-Ziba-Virtanen //Virtanen has been a total mess and couldn’t handle the hype when he got drafted. He will be reborn after he gets away from the scare he is facing right now (remember this is conditional on that he does). Why him? Look, physically he is one of few players in the league who can match with guys like say Wilson. All bad labels are fair — but nobody can deny his aggressiveness and pure physical strength. Ziba would set these kids right.

This is a smaller role for Ziba, and I like that.

Kreider-Domi-Kakko //First of all, I have never and will never care about if a line is 1, 2 or 3. What makes a difference is PP and who you play with. Domi is a perfect center for Kakko. He is also someone who can handle a rumble really well. This is a strong line.

Reaves/Baron-Strome-Rooney //Reaves getting older and slower. But he plays NYI and he plays Washington, non-negotiable.

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Guhle-Lundqvist //
Guhle is another physical specimen. Very physical. And he moves really well too.
Smith

Deal Geo and bring in a vet goalie with an attitude.

PP1
Laf-Ziba-Kakko
Panarin-Zib

I think that’s the rub. I think Barron is exactly what you want in a 3C. I think they are gun shy on Chytil. If you move him, and he busts out we look like morons for trading the exact player they are looking to trade for. And we put in all the work to get him to that point. However, and team dealing a center, Chytil is going to be among the first pieces they want back

this would have been the year to give Chytil heavy minutes in all situations, strome playing well prevented that. Chytil injury/ covid all messes up the timeline as well. I don’t even know where to start really
Zibby plus something for Tuch and Krebs would be ok by me. Zibby plus Buch is too much, I Have no idea who would stay or go. Larkin will cost Chytil plus a D prospect easily. It’s hard to identify who can even be available

I don't see a lot of guts in Chytil, i just feel hes the type of guy thats gonna fade in a playoff series and im not sold on him being any more than a 3rd line center on a good team.

Chytil's vibe kind of reminds me of Beauvillier's. Obviously Beau kills the Rangers but otherwise he's a "he does his thing, or he doesn't" player

I don’t know, he drove Tortorella so nuts that he charged Calgary’s dressing room.

And I mean, neither Atlanta nor Calgary were ever hard to beat under him, definitely for tactical reasons. His teams focused way to much on cutting down mistakes and getting the puck deep. If he doesn’t adopt to what is working right now in the NHL, he is a horrible signing. But if he did that, he is a winner at all levels, AHL, NHL and the KHL. He has a absolutely phenomenal track record with kids. His teams are dirty as heck.
