So how fast is Quinn gone after the season concludes? One day? One week? You can tell by the way Drury is talking that he’s on borrowed time.

A week. He's friends with Drury. If Dolan wanted him gone according to reports and he's still here, then they're going to extend the courtesy to Drury to fire the guy he brought in, under amicable circumstances.

I don't think this team has the leadership in the locker room to manage Tkachuk. With the proper leadership support, he would be an awesome get. Without it, it might make things worse.

Are we hiring Bern?

I just want Blake Coleman and an NHL coach.
I'm under no delusions that it would happen, just something I would love to see. Tkachuk alone would be an awesome acquisition if we could move one of the LW to RW. He's exactly what we are missing up front. I'm not necessarily against your plan but I think the Rangers will be going big game hunting this off-season so might as well hope for someone who is a really good fit.

You want to trade KAM... sorry checked out then.

yes, dont think he will reach full potential. Think he will end up being a good top 4 dman. But not elite.

also dont think he will be a person that becomes a grinder who uses his body well.

but i wouls only trade KAm for a top flight center. Or top center prospect. Otherwise keep in the ahl for half season and see where he goes. Im not trading him for the sake of trading him, but rathwr to trade from strenght to upgrade a weakness.

The idea of a culture change is ridiculous. That would necessitate A change in New York sports media, and ultimately a change in business culture worldwide.

hese guys are superstars and they know that the moment they get drafted or signed. I’m starting to believe New York is not the place for hockey... Montreal? Toronto? They're not NY.

So we’re moving Miller because he’s not a finished product after his age 20 season. OK
Future Norris winner in February to guaranteed not elite in May. Jesus. The bipolarity here is unbelievable.
Miller is another one I would move if the homerun deal came along, but wouldn't push him out just to do it.

If you think he's soft (I think he's just 21), we can teach him to be tougher. Like, people seem to forget that. You can play harder. It can be worked on.

Meanwhile, Miller's ability is not something you can make guys have.

Tampa got swept because they didn't have what it takes and they got over it. Certain acquisitions helped but a lot of skilled players on that team got over it.

Chris isn't the type to change the culture, but I also don't think there's a player on the Rangers more willing to buy in to whatever the team needs from him--even if it's not really something he's capable of. I remember early in the AV years, it started with dropping him in front of the net and telling him to figure it out there. He did and quickly became one of if not the best forward in front of an opposing goalie in the league. Every offseason for a while there was something new. First the mandate was for Kreider to add some meanness--he went out and learned boxing. Then it was to be more dynamic as a puck carrier and he came into camp and preseason after a summer with a skills coach making dekes he'd never tried before.

Even this season, I don't think it's a coincidence at all that when Panarin went down, Kreider went on his hot streak. And as the Rangers have rebuilt, he's been more than a pro about it--not whining or even expressing the least regret or frustration like Zucc, Hayes, and Hank--and has embraced the role of housing and helping to prepare the young prospects through the offseason.

You're right that in an ideal world... OTOH Laf has plenty of attitude, and what about the centers you replace Zibanejad and Strome with (two of the blandest players ever from a personality POV)? I think Kreider is an ideal "A". He will buy in to whatever is asked of him. But he's not guy to take charge of that kind of cultural things.

You could definitely be right!

I'm fine with it. He's stiff, he's versatile, and as a #7 he's not that awful.

Like, most backups suck. :dunno:

Also, assuming Lundkvist makes the team out of camp he wouldn't be the worst guy to pair with him. I really respect him for stepping up the other night against Wilson.

i dont think u teach toughness. U are born with it. U can teach him to better position himself, but toughness is instinctual. Yes he will get stronger, but that doesn’t mean tougher

We weren't always like this.

It was a game in March 2019 where I noticed the problem with Tampa. They were in a tight game and even though they won, I said "this team is gonna lose once in the playoffs and fold." Which they did.

That game was against us. Kreider and Zibanejad were certainly there. And who did we have who was so tough?

At some point, Quinn just lost his vets.

Nope. Moving Miller, if he is the one to be moved, is about an abundance of riches at D. With Lundkvist, Jones, Robertson and Schneider being NHL worthy soon, and with Lindgren and Fox on the top pair, Miller may be a significant piece for a trade to fill another need (such as a two-way C).

Miller is not soft and trading him would be a pretty stupid and reactionary move. He clearly hit his rookie wall. He played more games, massive minutes, against top competition, in the best league in the world in his first season in the NHL at 20-21. I'd keep him and glue him to Trouba for 5 years and have a big, tough and rangey shutdown duo.

Mark Messier fell to the third round because he got the absolute pubescent piss beat out of him in the WHA.

I had faith in the rebuild. I hope Drury is more patient than the fanbase and Dolan, cause we probably wont have this much young talent again for another 20 years.

This is the worst thing we can do to Lundkvist. Smith is tough and can do some offense but he can't defend. Let's find Lundkvist a partner that can actually defend so he can get comfortable before we try to make him carry his partner. I don't mind Smith coming off the bench in case of injuries but the more he plays the worse he gets. He's not an everyday 3rd pairing dman in my eyes. We have the cap this season to sign a veteran LD for just a year or two to buffer some of these young dmen we have.

I think dealing Miller would wind up being an awful day in the history of the NYR.

He's like the pitcher that throws 101 but needs to learn control.

You don't get rid of guys like that because if he harnesses everything and becomes Randy Johnson, youre a running joke forever.

Kid is 21 and was rushed up. He's part of the solution.

If the Rangers can get Zegras for Miller I’d be willing to move him but outside of that I think he’s a keeper

Wonder if Bob Hartley is someone Chris Drury will consider?

Hartley faced the same issue Crawford and Torts also did after the lockout. They had success with skilled teams during the trap era because they basically took away their teams transition games, but let the talent lose once they got down low. When the redline offside rule was removed and there was a crackdown on clutching and grabbing, it all of a sudden became a key to play a puck possession game. These guys didn’t adopt fast enough.

Hartley is a tough coach, but he got a phenomenal record with kids. It’s not just all those kids in Colorado that came out of nowhere under him, but also guys like Johnny Hockey in Calgary. He worked with Kovalchuk in Calgary.

If he just can adopt to the element that are paying off so much right now in the NHL offensively and with the puck — which are not playing it safe around the offensive blueline but instead making moves with the puck and taking it to the net instead of taking a detour to the corner first and having Ds overload the net — I actually think he could be a good option. If he is stuck with trying to have a team that only can go to the net after getting the puck deep first and playing it safe in the transition game, it’s suicidal and he won’t survive a year.
