If I were GM there would be 3 untouchables - Fox, Lafreniere, and Kakko.

I have no clue what the NYR are thinking at this point under Drury obviously, but if it were me Shesterkin is not close to that tier. If I can get him signed for <$5M for 4+ years I would do that. But if a team wants him in a hockey trade it's not an immediate no from me. Both due to position value and his trajectory so far. Happy to keep him, could be a Cup caliber goalie, but doesn't look t be a franchise player by any means.
Problem is if you trade Shesty then who is in net? we gonna draft another goalie? That will take 3-4 years minimum to develop? The guy still has serious ability. I am huge fan and I will admit this has been a frustrating year watching him for the most part but still think he is the real deal.
Maybe it's a blessing and we can sign him for 4/4.5 million for 4-5 years like you said?!

Sign the best UFA you can for that cap allocation. I like Shesty and think he’s pretty good, could win a Cup, and would like to keep him for the right $...but even on his best day he can’t win you games on his own. It’s just the nature of the position. He is also a UFA in 2023, coming up fast already. No way would I personally consider him to be in the “untouchable” tier.

This team really isn't far off from being good if Lafreniere and Kakko are top 6 players next year, from a roster standpoint.

The team that hits the ice against the top opponents and literally doesn't score is far off.

But we had a few games this year where we bodied the Caps and an oft-forgotten game where we ruined the Islanders. On paper, these teams are not unbeatable for us.

The worst thing that happened to this team was the Penguins surging. The Caps and Islanders found themselves needing games. When the opponent needs games, we get shut out with 15 shots.

That's what we need to address.

But is he a good coach?

feels like @bobbop would have a good handle on that
I'm lukewarm on Tocchet. Excellent systems on the backend but lousy offensive coach. Has gotten a lot out of a short roster but has also has some run ins with players (e.g. Domi, Duclair, OEL)

Frankly, I think they can do better.

Then the guy trolls Panarin with a text. We should be done talking about this guy.
Just hoping for some karma for him and his team come playoff time.

I want the type of "justice" Reeves gave to Wilson after the playoffs.

Talking about Arizona, is there any chance that Hayton could be had for not too much?

i thought i remember reading that he had fallen out of favor there a couple months ago. Just thinking of a buy low prospect.
He's not developed as hoped. Had plenty of opportunity. I'm sure they would want a lot if they moved him but it may not be worth it. Jury is definitely still out.

I would want to see Tocchet somewhere else before I judge him.

The Coyotes are an internal budget team that makes a money-saving trade every year. They've never had a star and wouldn't keep him if they got one.

You have to coach weird there.

I think he can and definitely has won games on his own. “Untouchable” with any goalie is tricky but I wouldn’t move him unless it were absolutely necessary for a guy who is a perfect, perfect match at a vital position.

I wonder if Rangers and Flames circle back and look at a deal with one or both of Buch and Strome. Looking at Lindholm and Tkachuk from the Flames possibly?

Rangers should've pulled the trigger on Bennett. Look how this guy has performed in Florida. Look at his contract status and age.

Anybody remember the way the 'vibe' of the 2006-07 Rangers changed when Avery showed up? Or the Islanders way back when when Goring came from LA?

This would've saved JD and JG IMO. Maybe even DQ.

There were some rumblings about the team having an eye on Larkin if I remember right. He’d be pricey but less so than Eichel I think. He also gives off a bit of a young Drury vibe, which is interesting but probably not very important. I’d love to add him over Eichel. Not sure if we could keep him and Mika both, but it’s interesting to think about.

I can’t really imagine moving Chytil with the other 2 centers being much older and him being literally the only young center, but maybe? If you had Larkin and Mika you’d need a pain in the ass 3C imo. If you had Larkin and Chytil you’d need to bank on being a wing driven offense, which this lineup probably could be

i would love larkin. In my perfect world we would trade KAM + for larkin.

than trade strome or zib or both to recoup some assets. Better even would be use those assets to get lindholm too as someone suggested

Frankly, I don't even know if I believe in good coaches in the NHL.

The NHL is the biggest old boys league in the world and nobody is trying anything innovative enough to get much more out of their team than they should.

A good coach is somebody who just doesn't make the team worse. I just want somebody who, if somebody asks me how the Rangers play, I can actually explain it.

Three seasons later, I don't know what Quinn wants to do. It seems like he really leaned on the recruitment at a big school being a cut above the pack. That's not how the NHL works.

This team is passive everywhere. Torts teams were passive in transition because Torts wanted you hitting instead of passing and got mad when we scored. But we were aggressive af on the forecheck. AV teams were the most passive I've ever seen defensively, literally letting the other team do offense because we had good goaltending, but they were uber-aggressive in transition, leaving the zone at times before they even had the puck (as Justin Williams/Dan Girardi would tell you).

This team hangs back everywhere. A team that's always passive just doesn't know what it's supposed to be doing.

I wouldn’t move KAM if I didn’t have to, he was stellar at the start of the season. I think with an off-season and better coaching he’ll be a huge part going forward.

If you think he had plenty of opportunity, who didn’t look too closely. The kid is only 20 and has played very few games in the last 2 years. In those games he’s been given minimal minutes. Tocchet plays the vets.

The Coyotes were a cap team last year.

Yes, with a bunch of shit on the roster from years of being a budget team.

Forget Zibanejad or Panarin, prime Chris Kreider is as good as anyone they've had.

Not that I'm a Tocchet fan, but Arizona is a worthless litmus test.

who else would u move that has the value to bring back a 1c?

put it another way if i were detroit who would i want for larkin?

laf, kakko, Krav and Kam would be theost likely targets.

We have the deepest depth in Dmen. And out of those 4 he probably is least likely to reach full potential.

have to give to get.

Shesty is fine for me. We have been spoiled having Hank. Having the best goalie in the league doesn't guarantee cups. Having a balanced/deep team playing well at the right time and some gameplay and health luck go furthest. Shesty can be more than enough on the right team. If a better option at the right price comes along, cool. Until then, Shesty will improve and hasn't been the problem.

Let's get crazy :
  • Buch, Strome and a 2022 2nd for Lindholm and Tkachuk
  • Zbad for Krebs/Glass and a 2021 1st
  • Chytil, Jones, Kravstov and NYR 2021 1st for Eichel
  • Give Gauthier a shot at 3rd line RW
  • Sign Nosek and Reeves for the 4th line.
  • Howden selected by Seattle
  • Bring back Smith cheap
  • ADA bought out
Laff - Eichel - Tkachuk
Panarin - Lindholm - Kakko
Kreider - Krebs/Glass - Gauthier
Nosek - Barron - Reeves
Rooney/Blackwell

Miller - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Smith - Lundkvist
